Air Bag On-off Switch Problems of Kia Motor Optima

My airbag light turned on and stays on while driving. My interior 3way switch light randomly turns on and stays on while driving and won't shut off until the car is off.

I was driving one night on a residential street and a deer ran out in front of my car. I slammed on my brakes but still hit the deer which damaged my front drivers side fender and lights. I was traveling at 25 miles per hour. I didn't call the ambulance at the time because I had to go right back to work. At the time I also did not think that the accident affected me but I believe that due to the whiplash from slamming on the brakes that it did in fact damage my spine. I kept going to the doctor's and hospitals to see what was going on with my body but none of them really had any drainage answers. Just recently had an emergency surgery on my upper back. The diagnosis was spinal stenosis. I had no prior health problems before this incident. My airbags did not deploy upon impact and I want some answers to that. Also after this incident my back tire blew out on the highway. There was no spare tire, flares for safety or anything when I looked in my trunk I am sure this is a whole different issue all together before all of this I had faith in kia and now I doubt that kia cares or is concerned with the well being of buying and paying customers. Kia financial treated very badly as well. My mom, my dad and my step mother all drive kia's a's well. Is it time for us to switch up car choices?.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated while driving. The contact also stated that the buttons on the steering wheel failed to function. The vehicle was taken to kia of cerritos (located at 18201 studebaker rd, cerritos, CA 90703, (562) 860-2424) where it was diagnosed that the air bag switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v363000 (air bags). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

Clockspring failure causes on-steering wheel controls to fail. Kia service did not find any service codes produced when the steering wheel volume control switches, cruise control switches and cellphone switches displayed intermittent functionality. Failure of the switches generally displayed upon initial start of the car after sitting overnight or at the end of a work day. Temperatures were consistently over 100 degrees f. During an approximate 1 hr 15 min surface street and freeway commute (each way),switches would function after a few minutes driving, but then fail again. Correct functionality was inconsistent. And did not persist. Car was taken in several times for these issues but no codes were produced. Service rep suggested that the clockspring may be involved, but recommended only the replacement of the faulty switches. Volume and cruise control switches replaced, but again showed intermittent failures that would not produce codes. Finally, the replacement volume switches and the cellphone switches completely failed; again, no codes were produced. Kia service noted that the clockspring is integral to the correct functioning of the steering wheel airbag system along with all the steering wheel switches. Kia service now confirms that a faulty clockspring shorted out the steering wheel switches; a new clockspring, volume controls and cellphone controls are being installed. Again, prior to the repair, no codes were generated for kia service to observe. Prior to releasing the car, the switches were checked for correct function, but failed. At that point, the clockspring replacement was initiated. Note: kia service also performed the recall work on the acu wiring harness during this service incident.

The light for my air bag has been staying on and my horn quit working for over a year now. I finally took it to the shop for them to look at it, they told me it was a clock switch (I believe I said that right) which is something in the steering connected to the airbag and horn. I am concerned that the airbag might activate while I am driving which would not be good. Maybe even not work if I get in a wreck.

Airbag light came on for no reason and will not go off. The driver seat and sunroof have an electrical issue where they work then don't, found that the switches are bad and work sometimes.

Drivers side door lock locks unattended, traps driver inside car. Can not open with key or switch. Safety issue. Also; air bag sensor light activated for the second time, has to be a defect.

We have had the airbag light come on for the past 3 years always just before the state inspection is due every time we get it fixed they said its a switch or a connector. But this year was the worst ,light came on in April, this time they said it's the airbag wire harness and would cost over 1500. 00 . We got kia to pay for the part,and we would cover the labor. I'm just worried will this happen again. It should be investigated further.

When front seat passenger sits in the passenger seat of the 2008 kia Optima, the airbag "off" indicator doesn't switch to on. I was told by dealer that the steps is that the car needs to be off, passenger sits, then turn the car on. This automatic feature is going to get someone killed . . . Not turning on the passenger restraint. Unless the car is off. True situation - my wife gets discharged from hospital from having a baby, I pull car around, get out, load items in the car. My wife gets in the car. Half way home, we realize the front passenger airbag is "off. ".

After buying the vehicle from a auto dealer between July 2 and July 5 . . . This vehicle began to have many problems like the audio receiver switch from radio to cd on its own,doors locks on its own,rpm runs to 4000 going 45mph after a hard jerk assuming that I was hit by a other car the air bag light came on after that 2 hard jerks while driving,,(they didn't even deployed) can not pump gas due to fuel keeps over flowing when its barely empty . . . . Its been a living ?!@#$% and I'm still paying for the car. . . . Is it legal for a dealership to sell a vehicle like this.

Warning light for passenger air bags is defective to the extent that passenger must sit in seat an exact, certain way upon first entering vehicle. If said passenger does not position themselves correctly, sensors in seat will not analyze person correctly, and subsequently the air bags would not deploy in the event of crash. Kia dealers have received a bulletin from kia corp. , pertaining to this matter, so several consumers have apparently noticed this rather serious issue and reported the problem. My vehicle recently was checked by a kimechanic for the formentioned problem, and found no history of failures in the system of my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2007 kia Optima. While driving 40 mph, the passenger side air bag light remained illuminated. The dealer reprogrammed the switches, but the failure recurred. The light dims when the vehicle is shut off and restarted. The vehicle will be taken back to the dealer for inspection. He also stated that the radio antenna was malfunctioning and the radio stations have a lot of static. The manufacturer stated that the antenna was not the cause of failure. We purchased our 2007 kia Optima this year in April and ever since we've had the car we've had issues with air bag sensor on the passenger side front seat. I ride in the passenger seat and about 30% of the time the air bag is off light doesn't turn off when I'm sitting in the seat, once I lift my rear end off the seat and put it back down then that light goes off. I've taken this in to the dealer once already and they said there was nothing apparently wrong, we brought the car home and within 2 days the problem was recurring. The car will be returned to the dealer for a second time with this issue, I just want my air bag to go off in the event of an accident, I believe that's fair. The last time we took it in they said there was nothing wrong with sensor according the computer, they reset the computer and sent us on our way. Hopefully this time we'll be more satisfied with the conclusion of this serious problem.
