Tl- the contact was a mechanic who was serving a 2014 kia opitima. The mechanic stated while servicing the vehicle, the driver side air bag deployed/exploded without warning and hit the mechanic's right leg. The impact of the air bag burned the mechanic's right leg. The contact did not receive immediate medical attention and serviced his injuries at his job. The manufacturer nor a dealer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. Our son vehicle was driving on a 1 way street and crossing the 4 corner intersection on a green light when he was hit by a 2018 chevy trax running a red light. The rear passenger door was hit hard, which caused the car to spin, 3 tires were blown, the rear axle was broken and the car was now facing the opposite direction. During this process his air bags (front,side) did not deploy, which was one of the reasons for purchasing the vehicle for safety. Now the other vehicle which hit him had front end damage, but only his side airs deployed. Based on the impact and body damage the vehicle was considered totaled.

I was driving at approximately 15-20 mph in a back-street when I drove over a steady bump, which caused the passenger side airbag to deploy. The bump in nature I would say was not a rough bump. I do hope that this car gets recalled. My husband and daughter were very fortunate with no serious injuries, but someone may not be as lucky next time.

The passenger side airbag malfunctions. It may or may not engage when one sits in the seat. After moving around; getting out of car and/or refastening seat belt it will most of the time engages. The size of the person, the movement of the car (or not), and sitting position do not appear to matter. One knows that the airbag is not employed properly because the light indicating the functioning of the passenger side airbag will read "off. ".

Front passenger side air bag does not always activate when an adult sits in the front passenger seat. The dashboard light indicates that the airbag is off. Even with an adult weighing about 115 pounds occupies the seat.

While driving the driver side airbag (in front driver seat) deployed. There was no accident or did I hit anything. There was no evident cause on why the airbag deployed. I took it to a dealership they just look at it did no diagnostic or anything and told me it was out of warranty so they can not do anything about it. Dashboard airbag indicator lit. Code b1378 pulled by the dealership - driverside side airbag resistance high. $1,020 to fix (replace seatback) . This car has 26,400 miles on it. Was told none of the 4 airbags will work because this one bag has failed. I understand devices fail but to design an entire safety system to deactivate because one part of it goes bad is negligent engineering. Also, factory warranties covering emission systems longer than systems responsible for bodily safety is bad policy.

I just had the exact same problem with a 2006 kia Optima, , which I purchased from enterprise car sales and then returned within the 7-day return period due to discovery of this problem. The software did not recognize a 120-pound adult as an adult on the passenger side, as a result of which we got the signal that the passenger side air bag was off.

As the driver's side air bag assembly is under a recall, the passenger side system should also be investigated. About 10-15% of the time the passenger side air bag will indicate that it is off after an adult sits in the seat. This requires that the person will need to get out then back in, or the car needs to be shut off and restarted and that doesn't guarantee that the system will operate properly. Last week the passenger side air bag off light has now been coming on while the car is in motion. It will appear for a few seconds, then go off, reappear then go off.

My fiance was traveling down a road where the speed limit is 55 mph and he was blinded by bright lights, he ran off the road and lost control of his car which caused him to strike a tree on the passenger side. 2002 kia Optima airbag driver's side deployed going 35 miles perhour while in a right hand curve. When the air bag deployed it hit the left shouder causing my daughter to turn the wheel more and go off the road. There where no impacts on any part of the car . We are lucky no one was hurt other than a strained neck and a hole in the oil pan. Kia recalled some 2001 for the same problem .

Consequently, I deployed overseas (military) and upon my return found that the car had been disposed of (destroyed). I still suffer from my injuries and my attorney is still handling my case.
