Air Bag Light On Problems of Kia Motor Optima - part 1

2012 Optima 45,000 miles bought in 2013. Regular on time service at lithia kia of anchorage where purchased. Air bag light triggered after oil change. Despite warranty and extended bumper - bumper coverage, had to pay $150 to have the air bag codes read and reset. The technician also performed a reset for the passenger weight management system. The srs system is deactivated when the airbag light is on. In my case, it was found that the passenger side had deactivated due to unknown circumstances. Historical codes that were pulled by the dealer's kia srs reader showed low power codes and the weight management malfunction. I should note my interstate battery is 1 year old and both battery and alternator are functioning correctly. My vehicle falls under the current recall, however kia and my dealer skirt fixing the problem by the fact that I am having a coding and programming issue and not a broken module or clock spring. The seriousness of a non functioning airbag (srs) system is a big deal and a bit scary. The manufacturer and dealer should not be able to skirt recalls under technicality and should be held fully liable if the system fails leading to injury. My airbag light stays on when the car is on. Also the horn does not work, which I was told it is connected to the airbag problem. I had a mechanic check the code and the code said it was the driver's side airbag. The dealership said there is a recall on airbags for the kia Optima but not for my 2012 ex. The symptoms are the same as described for the recalled kia Optima airbags. I don't understand why my car is not part of the recall, especially since it is a major safety issue. I have tried to see if it was a simple cable connection issue under the seat but that has not resolved the problem. I really do not want to pay $$$$ to get the airbag fixed when there is a known problem with kia Optima airbags. But I also do not want to lose my life because the airbag does not work and kia won't fix it under a recall.

I bought my car 3 months ago. Never had any issues, make sure I do my oil and all,no lights have come on on my dash board except the airbag light as of recently. I was driving it to pick up my son and my car started to slow down and I noticed my check engine light was on so I pulled over to the gas station and checked my oil. No issue I just got an oil change the week before. My engine is knocking now. With no warning or anything.

My air bag light will not go out, so I took car to mechanic and he replaced clock spring and air bag light still on. So looked up recalls for kia 2013 and I see air bag default and I called kia and was told even that was a problem for some kia 2013 my car is not included because of my VIN. I went back to mechanic and he stated that it was an air bag issue with kia and should be taken care of because it is same issue they recalled kia Optima 2013 regardless of VIN it is within the year of recall.

My low beam lights have no visibility and I have been researching online used headlight assembly because it costs $400 for both sides that I dont have I replaced my low and high beam bulbs the high beams work just fine but as I was doing research a high percentage of this make and model have the same reoccurring problem I seen where they have recalled 2011 and up for this problem but I guess decided to not worry about the older models I can understand that but that is my only means of transportation for work and my daughters now it is getting darker earlier and I can't afford to drive around with my bright lights on and the air bag light will not go off.

I have a theta ii turbocharged engine 6 speed manual and I was driving down the street taking my son to work. All of a sudden my car started making a loud knocking noise and wouldn't go past 2nd gear. We called a tow truck had it sent to mechanic they did a diagnostic test and 2 p codes came back from crankshaft and controls and seized engine. So I had it towed into weston kia dealership. Plus I had just bought this car in April. The dealership ship called me saying they were going to replace my engine and wiring and computer and sensor chip. Also my passenger air bag light has been blinking off 3 days after I bought it and still is. My emergency brake doesn't work and rolled while it was pulled up in neutral and hit my daughter as she was running around the front of the car to the passenger side right in her knee cap. I got my car back from weston and it didn't feel right. Someone put 380miles on my car it had a 1/2tank of gas and my clutch and clutch pedal and gear shift was way shorter and 1/4 inch off in shifter box. I was on the freeway driving 60 mph with my kids and we were leaving my parents house from xmas. All of a sudden I almost list control of the car my clutch pedal fell to the floor. I got us to safety almost avoiding a huge wreck and had it towed to my house. Called dealership and told them and had noticed on invoice their technicians had tightened up by bolts and flywheel. Well I go outside and theirs fluid all over the pavement under the car but none on inside. They paid for a tow truck and by the way since replacing the new engine I went from 34 miles to the gallon to 20 and passenger air bag still illuminated off. My defrost isnt working now and my engine light blinked 3xs. They want me to pay 1500 for new clutch. Their tech adjusted my flywheel bolts and clutch cable. 65. 00 emergency brake and 125. 00 for test. It already had one. Fuel leak?.

Kia recalled Optimas up until January 2008 for faulty clock spring. I have a kia Optima that was built in March 2008. I just paid almost 500. 00 to replace the clock spring because my month and year was not included in the recall. Why did kia stop the recall after January 2008 when there were still 2008's with clock spring issues. I started my car and the airbag light would not go off. I took it to the dealership and was told I had a bad clock spring. I'm sure these things do not wear out being they are associated with the airbag system.

Kia Optima 2012 with 43000 miles horn doesn't work while steering wheel turned to the right. It works fine while steering straight/left but the moment turned right horn will only click/ no sound. I do have the airbag light on don't know if it is related. Worst case is, I have my state inspection due and with the srs light and no horn, it will definitely fail. I guess that's what I get for owning a kia .

The manufacturer was contacted several times and was unable to confirm when the parts were to become available. While driving 20 mph, the contact noticed an abnormal clicking noise coming from the steering wheel and the engine stalled. The contact had to veer to the shoulder of the road to turn the vehicle off and back on in order for the vehicle to resume normal operation. All the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer who confirmed that parts were unavailable. The dealer updated the engine module software, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 13157669. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

When turning left or right, the steering wheel makes a noise, seems to get stuck. " when stationary or in motion the horn does not work. When in motion the cruise control does not work. When stationary or in motion, the steering wheel heater does not work and the radio volume control does not work. Airbag light is on.

I'm having a problem with my airbag light staying on. My vehicle has not been in a major accident that caused the airbag to deploy. I called kia to repair it because I'm still under warranty but they told me I would be responsible for getting the problem repaired. I thought if it had anything to do with airbags that would be the responsibility of the the company.

First off this is my daughter's vehicle that I purchased thinking it was a safe vehicle for her. When here air bag light came on and we found out about the air bag recall she kept getting the run around at the dealership in alabama. I went and got her vehicle to bring it home to GA to have it serviced. Well they serviced the vehicle and when I got my car and noticed the light was on I was told OH that has nothing to do with the recall because the recall issue would not have made the light come on. I was told I needed to pay a diagnostic fee to find out the issue. I asked why since they already had the car in the back and its an airbag issue and they said OH we would have to pull the car apart. After taking the car to another dealership and finding out it is the clock spring I called kia I spoke with someone over the phone and was told to bring it back in at 2pm because that should be covered and they would take care of it and once they do that the car would be good to go. Once I got there I was told sorry that they misspoke and didnt have all my information that they only had my VIN number. Well how the hell you got my VIN number without getting all my information. This is so not right as you know that the clock spring has been recalled on other kias. I was charged almost $400. 00 from kia to fix something that should have been covered after going back and forth with them.

Air bag light came on with vehicle at approximately 86,400 miles, vehicle was stationary. Vehicle sensing device indicates on passenger whether weight is enough to turn air bag on or off. Dealer showed air bag clock spring needed to be replaced indicated only air bag that was affected was passenger side. Not sure if this is correct, that clock spring failure only affects deployment of one air bag. Subsequent problems thus far in two weeks since taking to dealer: cruise control buttons not working, trip computer and eco controls also failed all controls are located on steering wheel. Contacted kia customer service and they denied covering replacement of part as vehicle is no longer under warranty that covered this failure and claim their are no recalls on this part for VIN number.

Takata recall my airbag light came on about a week ago while I was driving down the road going at 50 mph and hasn't went off yet. I haven't been in any sort of accident whatsoever. Just casually driving down the road (may have hit a pothole or anything that caused it to come on) so I was checking to see if maybe there was a recall.

The dealer repaired the air bags, but the indicator remained illuminated. The contact was informed that she would have to pay for a diagnostic test to determine why the indicator was illuminated. When driving the 2017 kia Optima lx the passenger side air bag indicator light will start flashing indicating that the passenger air bags are engaged although there is no one sitting in the seat. The indicator light flashes continuously for approximately one minute then turns off. This indication can happen at different stages in the driving process from being parked to driving down the highway.

The airbag indicator on my dashboard remains constantly illuminated. It has been this way since April 2018 when the front end (just right of center) was impacted. Have been to kia performance center in moosic PA and was told there is nothing that they can do regarding this matter. I had my car diagnose at cobb county kia in kennesaw, GA 30144 and the service manager, joe told me that the issue was the clock spring which kia has recalled on several other models. The car is unsafe; the airbag does not work at all. The dealership wants $600. 00 for a safety issue.
