Tl- the contact and his daughter leased a 2017 kia Optima hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the parking brake would active independently as the parking brake warning light would simultaneously appear on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at 55 mph, the parking brake had activated independently as the check hybrid warning message appeared on the instrument panel. Due to the parking brake activation, she lost control of the vehicle as the rear tires began to lock. The vehicle began to skid sideways and the contact also lost control of the power steering. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle continued to accelerate. As a result, the vehicle hit a guard rail which caused the vehicle to flip approximately six times and ultimately landed in a wooded area. The front air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact's daughter was initially trapped in the vehicle, once she was removed by paramedics, she was treated at the scene for minor bruises and burns in an ambulance. She did not seek further medical assistance after the accident. A police report was filed at the scene of the accident. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the accident and was towed to an independent tow yard. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number. The failure mileage was 23,000. Last year I was told by kia if my steering wheel clicked to bring it in ASAP, at the time it wasn't doing that. A month ago it did, I brought it to my dealership and was told it wasn't covered. The clock spring assy failed. Plus it had to do with the airbag not deploying. Some are covered others are not, explain to me please that if they all are doing the same thing why aren't they all covered? please help! thank you.

Purchased 2019 kia Optima ex on 4/27/2019 from a kia dealership in hagerstown,MD. After research on this website we find out that there is an investigation for airbags not deploying on this vehicle in crashes. This investigation was initiated before the purchase of this vehicle. How is a dealership allowed to sell a vehicle with a potential safety issue? a dealership/manufacturer should have to let the purchaser know before they buy the vehicle. We would have never purchased the vehicle if we would have known this!.
While driving the car stalled resulting in a collision with a telephone pole. I had just made a turn & the car went dead. Steering and brakes locked up. Now my car is completely totaled not to mention the airbags never deployed. My fianc was ejected from the vehicle resulting in a fractured hip.

Kia of savannah on December 3, 2018 I took my vehicle in for recall 18v363 to have an airbag wire harness installed per the recall. Upon attempting to pick my vehicle up I was told the airbag control module had shorted, my airbag light was on, and it needed to be replaced at an expense of $825. 00. I was told by the service associate, elisa france, the airbags may or may not deploy unless the repair was done. I asked how the module went bad when they were fixing it with the new wire harness and was told a "tech" would need to answer that question. I asked for service manager who was unavailable. I called kia customer service and was told the module wasn't under recall or warranty. And I needed to pay for the repair. My complaint prior to the recall my airbags light was not on. We recently had the vehicle serviced for another recall and was not told the module was bad. But now, after the wire harness recall was performed, the airbag control module is suddenly bad. Feeling the vehicle was unsafe to drive, due to the airbags possibly not deploying, I left the vehicle at the dealership awaiting to hear back from a service manager or service tech. Today marks day 4 they've had my vehicle and I've received no call.
I had a front end accident on 1 oct 2018. My airbags did not deploy. I received recall notice on 18 oct 2018. I have contacted kia concerning this matter several times, they will not respond to me.
Broken clock spring in the steering which will not allow the airbag to go off. Airbag light constantly stays on which results if I got in a car accident the airbags will not deploy.

This car has been in 2 front end collisions both at different rates of speed. The air bags have never deployed. It was fixed both times by professional shops and inspected by a kia carlotta where they cleared codes on faulty air bags and told me it was no big deal. I want this matter looked into further. The passenger occupant classification system sensor mat failed while the vehicle was in motion, as indicated by a light illuminated on the dashboard. The failure occurred during normal operation of the vehicle. Failure of this sensor is a significant safety concern, as it may cause the airbag not to deploy in the event of an accident. This is a known issue in other kia vehicles around the same model year, but there isn't a recall or service bulletin for this particular vehicle.

Air bag light is on and we've been told by the dealer that it's a faulty clock spring in the steering wheel. There was a recall up to 2008 Optima's for this issue but not the 2009. This should be investigated as a known issue as I've seen many complaints. It's a safety issue that kia should pay since the airbag may not deploy an it's an expensive replacement and special order. The dealer will not cover this replacement.

No previous problems with steering in the year vehicle was owned, was bought preowned with 25k miles on it, now with 28k miles on it. On day of accident, roads were damp, while driving on road littered with numerous pot holes and bumps, came around a corner on what seemed to be bump free pavement, steering jerked right, car veered into the grassy terrain alongside road, could not regain control of car as steering was fighting me no matter what I did, raise in terrain forced passenger side down an driver side of car into air, car came to rest near side of road on it's passenger side, also air bags did not deploy. This car is supposedly safe I believe I survived thanks to an angel above keeping me safe.
A car accident took place early Sunday morning of September 25, 2016 in which the air bag failed to deploy resulting in severe injuries. Kia was contacted and informed that a accident had taken place in a new vehicle that was purchased, and the airbag did not deploy, although it had passed the inspection at the dealership and should have been under warranty since the vehicle was purchased a few months prior. Kia failed to correct the issue, although indicating they would send an inspector out to check the vehicle. Later it was indicated the vehicle had 2 recalls associated with it (#1. 16v7050000 and #2. 16v231000), however, kia failed to honor the recalls or take responsibility for failing to properly inform of the defects. Numerous attempts were made to reach someone at kia to resolve the matter, but each time a different representative indicated mr. Gustavio valila was the person handling the matter and would respond in a timely manner. Voice mails were left unreturned and emails were sent, however, mr. Valila could not be reached. A year later a representative responded indicating that the air bag was not meant to deploy and that the company was sorry for the circumstance and situation. The company did not acknowledge or respond to the previous recalls that were not honored, nor did the company correct or resolve the concerns or make an effort to assist or provide a remedy for the injuries sustained due to the failure of the airbag not deploying. Due to the accident and injuries sustained during the accident the driver died a week later. Kia was informed of everything, along with receiving photos and paperwork associated with the incident (that a representative from the company requested), and has still chosen to accept no responsibility for the situation or do anything to resolve the previous matter / concerns.
I am an officer (off. Warren webb #48) with the madera (California) police department. I investigated a traffic collision where the driver of a 2012 kia Optima collided with a parked vehicle going approx. 35 mph. The impact sent the parked vehicle forward approx. 3-4 feet into another parked vehicle causing damage to all 3 vehicle. The kia sustained significant damage to the right front bumper / fender area and sheared the right front tire off. The impact was enough for the kia to roll over and cause damage to the left front tire and rim from grinding into the roadway. The parked vehicle it collided with sustained moderate damage to the left rear and driver's side area. When it was shoved forward it sustained minor front end damage and caused minor damage to the back bumper of the second parked vehicle. There was centrifugal rim marks from the kia after impacting with the first parked vehicle. The right front tire was broken from the axle. The kia was heading n/b and came to rest in an almost total e/b position from the collision. My concern is that the airbags did not deploy with such an impact and damage sustained. The driver was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries. This occurred on a city street. The report # is madera pd incident 16m-04449.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. While reversing the vehicle, it independently accelerated in reverse and crashed into a parked vehicle. The vehicle then accelerated forward and crashed into a house. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed and was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was t boned by a lady in a Dodge Mini van who ran a stop sign approx 30 mph there was damage from the front of my car to the rear with the passanger door being ripped off during the impact. The side airbags never deployed. This is very concerning to me and needs to be addressed.
I was involve in a bad accident with 10k in front end damage and my air bags did not deploy and half of the air bag sensor came apart in the damage.
