On February 19, 2021 at around 12:50 a. M. , a friend and I were driving home in my 2013 kia Optima hybrid ex on a city street and we were a little more than half-way home when the check engine light on came on. I started looking for an open gas station so I could stop and check if there was anything visibly wrong with my car. Before I could reach a gas station, I heard a ticking noise in the engine compartment and upon looking in the rearview mirror I saw smoke billowing out of the back of the car and saw and smelled smoke inside the cabin also. I immediately pulled over and shut the car off. The car then completely filled with smoke, so my friend and I got out of the car quickly. The engine area burst into flames. I called 911 and reported it to the police and waited for them to come. The car exploded a couple of times before they got to me and the fire quickly engulfed the car reaching into the cabin of the vehicle. The street had to be completely blocked off from all traffic. It was a very scary experience as we barely made it out of the car before it burst into flames and how risky it was being in the car before it caught fire. As fast as everything happened we feel lucky to be alive. It took the fire crew about an hour to put the car out. Everything inside the cabin was completely destroyed. After getting a ride home from the police I started researching online the issue I had just gone through and found that there was manufacturer recall #sc200te, NHTSA recall #20v750 for my vehicle which seemed to fit the experience I had with my car.

Check engine light has been on for a week. Had appt to go in 2/2/21 with kia but driving down the interstate started hearing a light ticking sound. When I accelerated on the gas it didnt do anything. It was bogged down. It stayed at 60 mph so I did it again and still the same thing. My husband aslo said that it's been sucking oil down for no reason. It has 89,000 miles on it. I had to pull over and have it towed to kia. I'm still currently waiting to hear what they are gonna do.

Loud ratteling when cranking, continuous ratteling when accelerating under driverside floor board made a clunk sound when applying brakes and now its like a sliding sound before it catches brake.

I was driving forward, in motion, my kia Optima 2011 on a highway when I began to notice a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. I immediately became concerned, slowed down, and stuck to the right lane. Then, 15 minutes after first hearing this loud noise, I could not accelerate anymore as the noise became louder. Then I heard a small crash/explosion, smoke came out from the hood, it began to smell terrible and I was truly scared for my life in trying to stop the car on the curb, unable to see where I was driving because of the smoke and unable to control the car. Thank god I was able to stop on the side of the road, and had to have the car towed by geico. My car has only 88k miles and I have had it since 2014�this is utterly acceptable to have an engine blow out so suddenly, at so little mileage, and put my life in danger. Car will not start up. When turning key I hear clicking noise from under the god from fuse box and thinking it's starter relay but I replaced it and still nothing eventually by keep trying turning key to start for 18 minutes it starts up finally. No clue what it could be. Maybe starter solenoid.

I was driving home from work on the highway, when I noticed my 2012 kia Optima ex making a loud clicking/tapping noise coming from the engine suddenly the car turned off and I was able to pull over to the right lane. When I pulled over the car was off so I turned it on and continued to hear the loud clicking/tapping noise.

Recall on engine was replaced 2 years ago for having metal shavings in the oil. The second motor has 15,000 miles on it and it's burning oil and smoking to where you can't see anything. I was getting on I 65 going north and smoke came out. It hesitates to go. Can't drive it over 45-50. Steering has a recall for a plastic cuffling behind steering wheel. It was replaced last year according to riverchase kia in pelham alabama. It is now making a popping noise again. Condensation is getting in tail lights causing the bulbs to blow. The headlights when on dim you can barely see.

Car has a bad gas fume smell that comes through the vent when driving check engine light came on motor has a loud tapping noise and burns gas quick.

My 2017 kia Optima caught on fire on October 15, 2020. I was driving to the store and heard a ticking sound and some noises. The check engine light also came on. I pulled over in the left turning lane on the highway to exit the vehicle. I heard a popping sound and saw flames. I exited the vehicle and immediately called 911. My car burst into flames.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000.

As I was traveling on the highway, I pulled up to a red light, when the light changed my vehicle would not accelerate and I there was an 18 wheeler coming up behind me with my 80-year-old grandmother in the car. Thank god I was able to get out of the way in time. I just bought this car with low miles and I have oil in it and out of nowhere there's it's loud ticking noise coming from the engine and somehow my oil is back low again. This so totally on kia so many complaints not enough resolution.

The car has lifetime engine warranty and kia dealership confirmed the same and they are still rejecting me to fix my engine even I offered to pay a fair part of the repair, the engine is consuming oil like crazy 1 quart per 250 miles its makes ticking sound when accelerating and kia seems like they dont care even if it has a lifetime engine warranty.

I was driving on the highway travelling straight in traffic at about 50 mph when my car stalled. I was able to restart it, then it stalled again. Then I restarted it one more time. Then it made a grinding clunking sound like something snapped and was getting whipped around by the moving parts. Then it had no throttle response and I was forced to pull over into the breakdown lane as the car no longer was running.

6/17/20 I was driving my 2012 kia Optima ex (2. 4l gas direct injection 4-cyl engine) and had just stopped at an intersection for a red light. Once the light turned green, I accelerated to continue driving to my destination. Shortly after leaving the intersection, my vehicle suddenly and without any warning made a clunk sound, the lights on the dash flashed and the engine died. I wasn't sure what happened so I quickly put the car in neutral and coasted until I reached a safe place to pull over and park the vehicle. I tried restarting it but it just made a click sound and would not start. After attempting to start the vehicle a couple more times there was a little smoke that came from under the hood / engine compartment. It kind of smelled like something was burning. I thought it might've been some sort of electrical problem so I called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to an automotive electric shop for them to take a look at it the next day. They looked at the vehicle this morning and told me that the engine was seized up and that the engine was bone dry of oil. I don't understand how this is even possible when I never received any check engine light, check oil light, no oil leaks on the motor, no oil leaks in my driveway or anything. How does a vehicle that is serviced regularly all of a sudden seize up without any warning what so ever? I have done some research online that indicates kia has issued a recall for certain 2011-2014 kia Optima vehicles. However, when I look up the specific VIN number for my vehicle it says I don't have any current recalls. I purchased this car brand new from a kia dealer and definitely would not have purchased it had I known that the motor would seize up only 8 years later. I expect an engine from kia to last longer than 8 years. I am thankful that I wasn't traveling at a higher rate of speed when this happened. Sad kia customer.

First, I was on in a road trip to arizona from south carolina. Suddenly my car began to make a clicking noise and smelled like oil while driving through a parking lot and lost acceleration while driving through an intersection. Took it to kia and they told me it needed more oil when my light never came on and I still had 1000mi left until my next oil change. So they performed the oil change after getting it towed there and having to then come back for it (4 days after getting it towed there). After that, we tried once again to go to arizona and about half way there going about 73mph on the highway, my car made a loud boom noise, saw lots of smoke coming from the front, and complete loss of acceleration. Husband's step dad checked the oil and it was completely gone. We went to grab more oil and when we poured it through, it went straight to the bottom. After hours of trying to get it on the back of our other truck traveling with us we finally got it to a kia and their service department was closed. Long story short, we rented a better truck for $480 to haul my car back to arizona. I am very frustrated and upset. My car is now at a kia in tempe, az and they told me it's not apart of the engine recall class action lawsuit even though an attorney told me it was.

My engine is making ticking noises. I need a recall on my engine.

The engine is burning oil extremely I can get a oil chance and before you know it I'm so few miles my oil stick is on low and the car is making a ticking noise like it's trying to cool off everytime the car is turned off after driving.

My 2013 kia Optima started making a ticking noise at idle and the engine light came on. I took it into my dealership, after they got me for about $800 for odds and ends, they said my timing needs inspected. I said do it. Then later got a call from the service advisor saying "nevermind, my certified tech doesn't think it needs checked". Certified tech? so, a asc certified tech hasn't been working on and diagnosing my car until now? I left the dealership with the same tick and the engine light still on. I also have proof of "deferred service" by the service advisor, for timing inspection. I was also told on the phone the whole engine should be pulled apart to really diagnose the issue. What?.

The car uses way too much oil to only have 40k miles on the motor with no leakage at all. It smokes white cloudy smoke, my check engine light came on, and it also makes a ticking noise constantly. Took it to the kia dealership multiple times. And they can't find anything wrong.

I've taking my leases vehicle into carson of kia 3 times for oil light they replaced the oil pressure switch twice of the 3 times while driving after the cars warms up I get ticking noise you can hear the better when when driving next to a retaining wall at this I've filed a complaint with the manufacturer and after reviewing the work order from the dealer all they offer me was 2 months of car payment which I decline so I'm contracting NHTSA for help and advise.

The car started to make a ticking sound, while in motion on a city street, quickly took the car to a shop & was told that the part that had to get fixed has to do with the code po1326.

Failure date: 06/25/2019 my 2012 kia Optima engine shut off while I was driving and luckily I didnt get into accident and was able pull off the road to wait for a tow truck. This is very scary and dangerous. I had it towed to an auto repair garage they changed out the started and changed out the battery it just made a clicking sound but wouldn't start. I started reading on line that this exact situation has happened to other kia Optima vehicles. My vehicle has 99189 miles so it falls within the power train warranty of 100,000 miles.

My car keeps having some kind of an electrical glitch where it seems my battery is dead completely wipes the memory from the car then it'll start 1 minute later, tires keep getting eating from the inside just above the rim, motor has been making a ticking noise since I got the car it was looked at as one of the recalls and said it was fine, I feel this car is unsafe for me and my family, the has even shut off as I was driving down the road acted like it was the battery was dead and it started a couple minutes later.

In addition, oil was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would investigate the failure; however, no further assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was similar to what was listed in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was 122,,856.

Driving on interstate, out of nowhere engine light started flashing and engine seized, car lost all momentum, had no "get up and go" pushing on the gas pedal did nothing, going up hill was almost impossible. Took car to local auto shop, they could hear some noise but weren't sure what. Per invoice 7/26/checked codes: p0011 a camshaft position timing over advanced, p00114 b camshaft position timing over advanced; p1326 engine damage alert for driver. Engine was noisey and ran very rough, oil level was low and black (we saw nowhere that it was leaking oil, no spots anywhere). Changed oil and add lucas engine stabilizer, engine quieted and runs much smoother. Clear codes, test drive, watch scan data. No codes, possible early stages of engine damage if codes return inspect timing chain and control devices. Took car home over the weekend drove less than 50 miles, Sunday 7/28/19 again, engine light came on and car had no "get up and go" and a very loud clanking noise could be heard. Took car to shop ASAP. Per invoice 7/31/check cel light and loss of power, check fluids, engine has internal noise/damage; computer datascan, check codes, diag, p1326; engine damage alert for driver, recommend further diag eval, inspect lower end and timing chain. Auto shop contacted local kia dealership, was told they warrant engines with these conditions. They have a number of vehicles waiting to be repaired already, suggested calling a dealer out of town for repairs.

Driving on the interstate going about 80mph. The engine seized and all the warning lights came on in the dashboard. Car lost power and had to coast to the shoulder of the road and use the emergency break to stop. Tried to restart the car right after heard clicking noises like the car was trying to turn over. After waiting about 20mins I tried restarting again its started without issue. And I continued to drive to my destination. The next day driving on the interstate again I tried accelerating to about 60mph and the engine stalled and I heard knocking noises coming from it immediately. Pulled over and got it towed from there. Prior to this I never experienced any engine issues and never had the engine lights come on. Car only has 44k miles.

The contact was the original owner and did not receive either recall letter from the manufacturer. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 109,000.

Takata recall: the engine on my kia Optima is making a loud knocking and ticking noise. The vehicle also loses slight power when pressing on the gas pedal. I know there has been numerous complaints from kia owners about the engine making the same noise and they had to have their engines replaced. Gervais kia (6 industrial Ave, lowell, MA 01851, (978) 454-1202) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was contacted several times and was unable to confirm when the parts were to become available. While driving 20 mph, the contact noticed an abnormal clicking noise coming from the steering wheel and the engine stalled. The contact had to veer to the shoulder of the road to turn the vehicle off and back on in order for the vehicle to resume normal operation. All the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer who confirmed that parts were unavailable. The dealer updated the engine module software, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 13157669. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

While driving, my dashboard lit up and my car shut off. While I'm traffic. I was going about 55mph. I was not able to accelerate or break. Luckily I was able to coast into a near by parking lot where it parked my car. From there I tried to restart my car, but it never came back on. I attempted to turn it on, but all I heard was a clicking sound. It's not my battery as I had it checked nor did any codes come up on my computer when I hooked my car up. Had it towed towed home and having a mechanic look at it in the morning.

I was driving on the freeway in the state of utah. I was going 65 mph on the freeway when the car started shaking, followed by a stall on the engine that forced me to slow down and park on the side of the freeway. I have no idea what happened but I heard cracking noise coming from the engine. Now the car won't turn on.

Driving uphill in sunol close to fremont I-680 when I heard a clicking noise appears to be the engine. The noise got louder then check engine light came on. The car no longer accelerate. The engine started to shake so I pulled over and exit freeway. The car then stopped ang all electrical light came up on the dashboard. I tried starting the car, it just shake then died right away. I then have it towed to an auto shop in stockton. The mechanic says something came off loose from the engine and it needs an engine replacement. A new engine would be $5k to $8k. I contacted the dealership why a 5 yrs old car that has 114k all of a sudden have an engine failure with no warning. They had me called kia consumer affair. They towed my car to their preferred kia dealership to get diagnose. I have found out there was a recall of this vehicle sc147. The dealership will perform a diagnostics tomorrow then they will call me for the results. If the caused of engine failure caused by the recall, they will replace it with a new one and provide a loaner car.

I was driving in a 2014 kia Optima with an estimate 55,400 mile on it down I-285 east when engine suddenly lost power. I notice an odd clicking noise, check engine light came and stayed on, and rpm dropped. I safely merged over in 4 lines of traffic on shoulder and turned engine off. The car sputtered when I cracked it on the side of the road, the car sounded terrible, extremely rough idle and engine noise, then I immediately turned back off. I call roadside assist and had the car towed to the nearest kia dealership. Waiting to hear back from the dealership.
