Was on highway, engine seized, flashing engine light and knlocking noise, car went into limp mode, took to dealership code p1326 was thrown which is engine failure, I have had the knock sensor installed thru kia prior which put me in lifetime warranty for the engine, kia dealership did a diagnostic bct, which is a 4 to 5 hour job at the most, kia called me in less than 2 hours and told me is passed the bct ! there is no way they did the testing in less than 2 hours, and no way it passed with engine light blinking and knocking, that's what the sensor detects is engine failure, they are refusing to honor my warranty for the new engine , picked up my car from. Dealership, soon as I hit the end of the parking lot engine seized and loud knocking noise, was barely drivable but yet the lied on the paperwork and said it drives as designed and was fine, put in a new knock sensor which they already did a month ago! went right back in to dealership and they told me because it supposedly passed there was nothing they could do! r u kidding me!? they were rude and not wanting to help or honor my engine replacement, so here I am with a seized engine and they tell me nothing they can do till it fails the bct! the dam car is in engine failure! in the last 3 months I have put 3k in this car! what is it gonna take for them to honor the new engine? gonna take me, my kids, or someone else getting hurt before they do what they said they would do? I have been in contact with corporate as well and they have yet to get a return phone call from the dealership, they have left several messages and called bullshit as well, and believed I was treated poorly because I'm a female. . . . . Little do they know, my father was a mechanic, he has passed on but I grew up around cars and know what's safe and what's not and know how long it takes to do a bcu test! basically kia told me to drive it till the engine blows completely! I just want them to honor the warranty of the engine .

My engine seized, I had it towed to a kia dealership, they said kia would not replace the engine because of recalls not done before I bought the car. There is currently a class action law suit for this engine, but I have to pay over 8,000 for an engine to be paid back, I still owe 10,000 on this car. I called kia and asked how am I supposed to know about recalls made before I purchased this vehicle, they said I'm responsible for buying a used car. I've had my car in at a kia dealership a week before engine failure with 20 point inspection and nothing said about recalls. I was on the freeway when my engine quit, lost all power. Had to drift across 4 lanes of traffic to get my car to an exit, and coast down the off ramp. Piped the hood and smelled something melting, my daughter was in the car with me. This is dangerous, now I'm left financially devastated and without a car because kia can't fix their wrongs. Every engine that had the recalls done has had to be replaced with or without the update. The engines are bad. Ive only had this car a year. . ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

The contact owns a 2015 kia Optima. The contact was driving at 75 mph, when she slowed down to 50 mph to switch lane then attempted to accelerate however, the vehicle would not exceed 60 mph. The vehicle was driven for about 2 more miles before it was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced however, the vehicle failed to restart. The independent mechanic then contacted a kia dealer and was informed by the dealer that there was a recall for the vehicle with NHTSA campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was then towed to parkway family kia (22555 us-59, kingwood, TX 77339) to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer determined that the failure was due to the recall. The dealer then sent the diagnostic findings to the manufacturer for the recall repair approval however, the manufacturer informed the dealer that because the contact had not done the manufacturer communications product improvement upgrade: vpi1802 (engine) the recall would not be honored. The contact stated that she never received the notification from the manufacturer about the product improvement upgrade because it was sent to an old address that she no longer lived at. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.
While driving on the highway at approximately 65 mph encountered engine failure and my car completely broke down. Had to have it towed 97 miles.

While my husband was driving the vehicle the engine shut off and locked up. Luckily he wasnt on a major highway with lots of vehicles. He was on a straight road but had trouble pulling the vehicle off the road because everything was locked up. This is a known recall on kia vehicles and the dealership is denying to fix it. There is an open class action lawsuit against kia for engine failure that we will be signing.

The contact contacted an unknown dealer and the manufacturer however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 135,000.
2013 kia Optima 5xxgn4a73dg149896 was towed to southern kia lynnhaven of virgina beach. Virginia for a engine failure recall sc147 , upon inspection kia dealer refuses to replace engine starter as subsequent failure saying that starter is not oem part but aftermarket which contradicts service bulletin sc147 and warranty bulletin SC 147 where on page 7 states any subsequent damage particularly starter should be covered under warranty or goodwill.
Vehicle was in motion and stalled during a drive and was unable to start. Interior lights and dashboard turned on along with radio and windows but battery was damaged. After getting the vehicle inspected from an auto shop, it was evident that there was engine failure. This occurred while turning into a parking lot from a main street.
I started having problems with the oil disappearing not long after I got the new car kia Optima year about February 2017 I keep pouring everyday more and more oil as I drive but it disappears. On or about August 28,2020, I received an email for a kia engine class action settlement federal court that advises suffer from a defect that can cause engine seizure, stalling engine failure and fire etc. And that the engine can be dangerous kia have been found liable for these claims. They said they gave me extra warranty but if it catches on fire or explodes then they would not help me and by then it is too late!! I told them that I am scared since I am a girl and keep adding oil and you never know what the engine machine malfunction can do. I could check the oil before going some where but you never know when the oil will all of a sudden disappear completely it is unpredictable. I have called kia manufacture phone at 1-855-951-0807 and they are giving me the round around I am afraid to drive the car that one day it may do something and catch on fire. Please I would appreciate another car that will not catch on fire and be dangerous. See attached kia engine settlement class action.
While operating at 65+ miles per hour on the interstate my kia Optima hybrid had a catastrophic engine failure causing my car to have total loss of power. I had to safely pull over to the side of the road due to this. This engine failure occurred at approximately 97300 miles, which would still be under the original warranty, had I been the original owner. A local mechanic told me the engine was seized. After doing research about these specific types of cars I learned that the regular, non-hybrid, kia Optima had recalls for engine failures so I called kia corporate to see if I had coverage. Kia corporate initially told me that my car would possibly be covered if a specific part failed (rod bearings). If this was true then I would have gone through a claims process to get warranty coverage for my car. Because of this I decided to have my car towed to a kia dealership. After a few days at a dealership I was again informed that my engine had seized (without determining why/ what part failed), but the story changed. Kia then told me that there was zero chance that my car would be covered even if the specific part had failed ( which we didn't know). I called corporate again upon hearing this news and spoke to someone who looked at the transcript/summary for my initial call and told me that what I was initially told didn't happen. They told me that I was lying to them and that what I was told in my first conversation with corporate didn't happen. Kia quoted me a new engine for 10000+ dollars (thousands more than the car is worth) and billed nearly 200 dollars for a diagnostic that likely took mere minutes. Ultimately I decided to have another mechanic put in a refurbished engine for about half the price. I believe that the deception that kia put me through was wrong and that it is completely unacceptable for a well-cared for car to suddenly die without warning.

I reported my kia with an engine failure problem a few weeks ago. Got a call from kia today and they refuse to cover because even though the recall by NHTSA is for 2 and 2. 4 l Optima , kia is claiming it is for a specific type of engine. I should pay 6200 and submit for possible reimbursement. Mine is an mpi and it is excluded. How can you exclude my engine? why would my engine fail for no viable reason and the dealership claims to have never seen that happen? my car has always been serviced at the dealership. I am asking for a thorough investigation and not a phone investigation. . My car is a 2. 4l i4 mpi hybrid electric dohc. An engine fails for a reason. Kia has had debris issues with engines and if mine is the first then so be it. Please have someone look at the car to ascertain this was not a lemon engine from the get go. This brush off by kia is unacceptable.
Tl- the contact owns a 2015 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately over 40 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled, there were no warning lights. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer (langdale kia address: 1508 n ashley st, valdosta, GA 31602; phone: (229) 242-0715) who diagnosed that the vehicle had engine failure and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle's engine was replaced under warranty and the fuel pump was replaced under the recall NHTSA campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The contact stated approximately 10 days later the vehicle suddenly caught started to smoke from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact stated that approximately 5-8 minutes later the smoke drastically increased, then, the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department put out the fire and a fire report was made. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,284. Gl.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. The contact stated after making a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle started to jerk. The vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed the vehicle with complete engine failure. The contact spoke with stokes kia (202 s goose creek blvd, goose creek, SC 29445) where she was informed that the vehicle was included in the NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the remedy was a four step process. She was informed that a diagnostic test needed to be performed on vehicle to determine whether she would be eligible for an engine replacement under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Engine shut down while driving at 47,700 miles causing engine failure code dtc p1326 will drop off at a kia dealership for diagnostic of engine.
I was driving home with my child in the car approximately at 67 mph on freeway 99 north from la to bakersfield CA and all of a sudden car stalled. I was on the fast lane and reacted immediately turned my emergency lights on but cars behind me were so short into rear ending me I cried because I was just shocked and scared for my son. Luckily my aunt was two cars behind me since we had took a short family trip and they helped me out. I had just took my car for an oil change to kia haddad of bakersfield where they also fixed a recall on my vehicle. This is the third time engine failure happens to this car. The first time was in June of 2017 that's what kia told me that's why they couldn't replace the because they had already replaced it and was out of warranty the second when it happened to me in 2018. Same thing happened car stalled with my son with me. Mechanic said I needed a engine which he ended up replacing I payed for that. Now this happens again for the third time ? I'm just so overwhelmed I've been so lucky I haven't caused no accident. Now I'm scared to even fix this car again and drive it.
Engine failure die to recalled motor issues but no recall on hybrid. Kia refusing to replace motor.

I have a 2015 kia Optima with 74,000 miles. As I was driving my vehicle on a city street when suddenly it started shaking and released black smoke prior to engine failure. A vehicle behind me had to brake and swerve to miss hitting me. This incident occurred on January 10, 2020. I received a diagnosis from the dealership confirming the vehicle had engine failure due to knock sensor and compression issues. Also stated that the head gasket is damaged. I contacted kia and initially they stated if the engine failure was due to a knock sensor issue, it would be covered. After waiting nearly 20 days kia is stating that my vehicle is out of warranty. Any advice on remedies or what could be done to have my vehicle fixed is greatly appreciated.
While driving there was a sudden knocking in the engine and then the engine seized losing pressure the middle of the road had to push it off to side would not start back up this happened 300 miles after last oil change car disabled due to engine failure.
80,000 miles on vehicle and engine failed. Vehicle was in motion and began to slow down on the highway. Lights in the dashboard appeared. Vehicle was towed by aaa and determined engine failed.
Sudden engine knock and sudden engine failure while vehicle was in motion in front of a high school. This incident requires engine replacement.
I purchased a new 2015 kia Optima. Completed regular maintanence on it, and the engine failed (locked up) at 138,000 miles. Later, I was advised the 2015 kia Optima and other kia's were found to have faulty engines. Kia did not offer assistance at the time, but are now offering assistance since I have traded the kia with a locked motor. I have been given the run-around for weeks and today a "regional manger" called and offered zero assistance and basically told me the faulty motor was not their problem. When the motor locked up, I was passing a car on the highway. The Optima stalled while I was in on-coming traffic, and then the motor died. I was able to pull over safetly, and the car smelt like an electrical fire, it never started again.

On June 26 2019 I contacted monroeville kia due to my car smoking when accelerating, I advised them it felt as if we're trying to stall. They scheduled me an appt July 9,2019. I dropped my car off and a few hours later they called and said everything was and the did some sort of engine software upgrade but found no issues. I drove off the lot and started experiencing the same issue only now I could feel the engine shaking. I contacted the dealership I purchased it from which was century 3 kia. The scheduled me for July 23, I dropped the car off and several hours later they called and said I need a new engine. They denied the claim saying it wad due to maintenance however I produced oil change receipts. The software upgrade that they did is software to detect the engine failure. They are aware it's a known issue but are not recalling their vehicles and are refusing to take responsibly for a defective product that could catch fire.

The contact coasted to the shoulder, white smoke started to emerge from the engine compartment. The contact opened the hood and a fire started in front of the fire wall. The police was not present. The fire department was not present. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. Normal driving operation until knocking heard during low speed. Engine knocking grew louder under acceleration. Vehicle immediately taken to mechanic who stated an engine rod may be bend. Told kia has recall for this issue. Kia stated the vehicle VIN is not a part of the recall. No heavy acceleration or use of the vehicle in the past. No indication of rod or engine failure.
Shortly after crossing over train tracks I noticed the car would not accelerate anymore. I looked at the dashboard and observed several lights on and the rpm was at 0. I rolled to a stop and tried to restart the engine several times with no luck. I had the car towed to a local kia dealership and they later told me that the engine failed. They said they are filing a claim with kia to see what they are going to do. I previously got a letter from kia that instructed me to have a dealership update the ecu so that the car goes into "limp home" mode if there is a problem. I have never experienced anything limp. The car was at 101000 miles when the breakdown occurred. Hopefully kia replaces the engine.
Engine failed on highway and car stopped accelerating.
Around the first week of February this year. They did a recall on the engine adjustment and the following weekend the engine failed. I was able to get the car into kia napleton carmel/indianapolis this was February 11th I believe. Within ten minutes the operations person came back and said they had a rental coming to pick me up. They had to replace the engine do to whatever they did to the car in the recall. I thought about this for awhile, I was going to purchase the car at the end of the lease. The large warranty is just about up in time, and should anything occur outside of the power train, it is on me. That mean if it takes months or weeks to fix the car, I need to lease a car and wait for the part. I became very irritated on the 15th day of waiting. That was now all most a month ago. Kia napleton has now had the car for a total of five weeks and not engine in sight. Enterprise told me my rental was extended to April 14th which Kia Motors if paying. I have complained from the dealership to kia lease, to Kia Motors and back to the dealership. A lot of run-around. Finally, they have issued a letter to permit me to pay $19,040 to buy out the lease or around $11,000 to find a new lease or just $3,000 for my troubles and keep the car. My worry is if something else goes wrong, what if I am waiting for five weeks or longer for a part to arrive from asia, and what if it happens on the open road. I want kia to take me out of the lease without damages to me. I am not pleased to have had kia destroy their own engine and now make it my problem. Kia has continually referred me between departments and one individual told me to contact my own insurance agent. They cannot guarantee me that the car will fail in some form for the remainder of the lease which is just around 16 months out. I took the letter from kia over to napleton k.
There is a recall on our 2014 Optima on the engines. We did the initial recall check with our dealership to see if there was any debris in our engine; as it passed according to them. Then Dec 2018 we got an oil change and our dealership did an upgrade recommended by kia. . . Our engine showed failure. . Coded the code that indicated a new engine was required. Kia forced our dealership to put a harness on the system. Our engine failed again Jan 23, 2019. . Still no engine. Kia is not approving a new engine yet. . . Still working out the issues. Car loses all power. . . . In stale mode.
Engine failure and replacement around 86,000 miles. Now has 95,000 miles. Has shaking, burning smells, and suspected power surging. Dealer states can not replicate smell or surging. Although a resistor was burnt up. They say the shake in the car is normal due to engine design. Engine did not start shaking until 40,000 miles. Kia corporate refuses to send a tech out.
