2 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 10/11/2021

My engine failed. Dick withams here in waterloo, IA was paid by kia to replace engine for free due to my warranty. Dick withams rushed the process and allowed me back on the road with no coolant plug( which was detected immediately) I returned the car and dick withams attached a plug so my coolant wouldn't spill over on the ground. Every time I pressed my brakes there was a horrible sound like my drive axial was not put together when putting the engine back. Kia is allowing mechanics to fix these recalls of major safety issues for myself and my family. I then returned vehicle to cedar falls, IA dick withams to fix issue Friday morning. They have yet to communicate anything with me. Now I'm just without a vehicle even though it's covered under warranty. It should be against the law for the car dealership to return a recalled engine without driving the car to see if they rushed the service and failed to put vehicle back together correctly.

6 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 10/06/2020

Sometimes when I start the car it only runs at about 500rpm and the digital speedometer starts going up in numbers when I'm in park and I have no power steering. I can put the car in drive and park or open the door and it starts acting normal. It also acts like it's going to shut off when I come to a stop. I am aware that the rpms drop when you stop almost like a gas saver but with in the last 20 thousand miles it has gotten really rough. It burns oil like crazy the dealership is aware of this but can't do anything with the engine tell it throws a code and they can't duplicate any of my other issues, the front end has made awful noises for the last 50 thousand miles or so and has had the front suspension replaced but that didn't fix the issue. Iv has the knock sensor replaced but I'm convinced it was just a gimmick so the car won't throw codes anymore because it should be with the issues I'm having. Like when the electronic steering goes out I get no dash light. I wish kia would own up to their issues.

Takata recall in 03/2019 I went to merge on interstate in traffic and I could not get enough speed to keep up with traffic, the car was make a loud noise and would not go over 30mph. We took straight to dealership who told me my turbo had failed and there was "sludge in the oil" they assured me this would be covered by kia warranty, my car only had 70,000 miles and I ssumed this would be the case with the 100,000 mile warranty kia offers. The dealership submitted my claim several times and it was denied, so we paid the 3000$ to have it repaired. They assured us everything was good to go. 1 month later we took a 5 hour trip and the motor blew up on us as soon as we got there, we called to have the car towed and kia would not tow it, so we arranged for it to be towed back home and to the dealership. They told us they have so many kia with the same problem they could not even look at my car for atleast 7days. I still havent heard from them about a claim.

25 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

Took my car into the dealership ( atlanta west kia, douglasville, GA) for an oil change, tire rotation, etc. I was notified when I checked in that there was a computer recall for an upgrade of the computer/electronic system. They informed me that they would do that while performing the other service work. 3 weeks after the oil change I was driving on the interstate the car sudddenly lost power after a big puff of white smoke and loud noise. I worked my way over to the nest exit and proceeded to turn around to go back home. No warning/engine/oil lights came on during this time. I called the dealership and never returned my call, with no results. We checked the oil the car was 3 quarts low. Continue to notify the dealer to no avail. The car needed 3 quarts of oil everytime I checked it weekly. Let me reinterate that the car was running fine before I took it in for service in Nov 2018. I called kia corp. They infomed me that my car was not under recall and that there's nothing they can do becasue I had 68k on the car. They asked me to have it towed in for diagnostic test. Now they want me to provide all the service records. The service records was in the kia dealership system as I have used that dealer (prior owner) for most of my work. I am not sure what happened to the service records. At this point they refuse to replace the engine. Kia has recalled every year but 2015 - apparently they think they got it right in 2015 since the motor was built in a different location. The engine I s pracically gone and I have had the car less than 4 years. I purchased band new off the lot 9/2015. I feel like they should be made to add the 2015 kia Optima to the engine recall list before someone get seriously hurt either by the car stopping in highway traffic or catching on fire. Door handle on the driver's side contiues to stick and the dorr will not open from outside or inside.

26 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

My car was occasionally making a loud noise when driving. When stopped at a light, the car then suddenly started shaking while idling and became sluggish and would not accelerate over 20 mph. I had to slowly drive my car back home, with very little acceleration. I then towed it to a mechanic who had told me there's a problem with a turbo, and it was most likely caused by the leftover debris in the engine, which was covered by the recall. I called kia's customer service line, and I was told my car passed the recall inspection a year ago, but it sounds like it should be covered now considering I can no longer drive the car. My car was towed to the nearest dealership where they told me they would look over the car, but not without immediately saying that there's a chance it won't be covered as if they were anticipating telling me they won't do it. On Saturday I was told I would get a call the following Monday, which I never did. I finally had to call Thursday, just to be on hold for 30 minutes telling me its only the turbo affected, not the engine or turbo line, and therefore it's not under recall. Not only did they tell me something I already knew, that the turbo was blown, but I'm charged $110 for a diagnostic fee that I was never told about beforehand, to check something that's on recall, not to mention the tow I have to pay for. I called kias customer service who just gave me an OH well that's too bad sorry no one told you, I'm not going to try to help. I'm not even convinced that they did any tests on my engine, or looked into the cause of the turbo failure. My only explanation when asking about the car was, it needs a turbo. While reading other people's stories about the recall, everyone else's dealer saw that the car couldn't drive, replaced the engine and turbo, and called it a day. I thought if theres a recall every car gets fixed regardless if it needs it.
