I was involved in a three car accident on may 14th at about 1:15 p. M. . I was driving my 2006 kia Rio slightly under 30 mph when I was struck from behind by a vehicle going much faster, but undetermined speed. I was pushed into an SUV in front of me. My hood and front end crumpled, but the air bags did not deploy. I was wearing my seatbelt, but still hit my chest against the steering wheel and fractured two vertebrae in my spine. The occupants of the other two cars were not injured. The failure is that none of the airbags in the kia deployed. I had no warning lights that the system was not working properly or needed maintenance. There is no correction to be done; the car was completely totaled.
My 2006 kia Rio air bag light has come on & stayed on. Diagnoses-inoperative seat air bag mat. To repair, the cost would be $1000. 00 with taxes. I have investigated this problem through the internet and have found that this is also a common problem with many kia vehicles causing some air bags to not deploy at all.
The contact owns a 2010 kia Rio. The contact stated that the front passenger side air bag malfunctioned. Whenever someone was seated in the front passenger seat the air bag was deactivated but when books were placed in the seat the air bag was activated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer but the manufacturer confirmed that there was a problem with the sensor in the seat. The manufacturer will not verify the weight requirements for the front passenger seat air bag. The contact stated this was a major issue and fears that someone could be killed if involved in a crash due to the air bag not deploying. The failure mileage was as 50 miles.

A 2009 kia Rio MD. Police report by anne arundel county police . At approximately 1800 hours the vehicle hit black ice at 30-40mph and swerved out of control head on into a wooden power pole. The driver had no problems with the vehicle or driving on this road home from work daily. Within a few minutes of the accident it began to snow. The vehicle sustained major front end damage including crushing the radiator and resulted inthe headlights dangling fromthe vehicle. The driver hit her head on the steering wheel , showed seat belt bruising marks, bruised knees, was in shock and had a severe headache and neck pain. The complaint is that the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was a dealership loaner vehicle while the drivers car was being serviced. I have no further information on the vehicle after being returned to the dealership.
I was involved in a car accident. I was headed west down a two-way street when a car ran the stop sign and crashed into me as I was entering into the intersection. The car was going a high speed when the collision occurred. My whole front end of car was smashed in, my car had been hit so bad until the gadgets in the cabinet of my car were all out of place. My passenger head was busted open and I sustained head, neck, back and rib injuries. We were both wearing seat belts. My passenger weighted over 170 pounds which mean her airbag should have deployed as well as mines but they did not. I have filed a claim with the person whose fault it was insurance company. I have did research online and realized that other kia cars dating back to 2000 models airbags did not deploy either. I have a 2008 kia Rio lx I bought it brand new off the lot. This problem should not have occurred.
Air bag did not deploy during a head on collision.

To whom it may concern, I have a 2006 kia Rio lx and at about 60,000 miles the passenger side airbag light came on. My concern is that the airbag will not deploy if there is an accident. My father also has the exact same car and it had the same issue. After reviewing consumer reports on the vehicle, I noticed that it is a common issue and it is definitely something that should be recalled. I noticed there was a recall for the kia optima airbags for that year but not for the Rio lx. Please look into this issue and get back to me.
Traveling aprox 30 mph, rear ended another vehicle. Seat belts did not lock on any passengers, airbags did not deploy.

Fell asleep driving 2007 kia Rio on the interstate to army reserve training (traveling 65 mph). Car hit - head on - the upcoming end of a guard rail which drove the radiator back into the engine. Neither fender got damaged. Had seat belt on and hit head on steering wheel; cut head; concussion; dislocated part of hand. The airbag did not deploy. Unconscious for over an hour. The highway patrol was concerned that the airbag did not deploy but the guy rebuilding the car (3 hours from us; $7000 worth of damage) says it didn't necessarily need to deploy because there are only 2 censors and both censors must trigger to deploy. However local mechanic says there are 4 censors and any one of them will deploy the airbag. Have bumper to bumper warranty on the car from the dealer where bought it used.

I was involved in a 45mph head on collision. The other car was a chevy cobalt. She had run a stop sign and hit us in the front. I was the passenger in the kia both me and the driver of the kia were forced into the windshield and he hit his off the steering wheel as well. Neither of the airbags in my car went off. But both the airbags in the cobalt did. My car was also called a total with damage done to the front bumper and framing. Two mechanics that looked at the car could not believe that the airbags did not deploy.

Our kia Rio was involved in a front end collision where the air bags failed to deploy at over 40 miles an hour. It's by the grace of god we didn't find this out in a faster collision costing someone their life.
Driving down I-65, and a semi truck tried getting over into my lane. I drove into the medium, lost control of the vehicle and spun out and hit the semi truck. It ended up running over the top of my car. My car was totaled. Everything from the front of the car to the steering wheel was destroyed, melted, etc. Luckily I wasn't hurt, because I locked myself against the seat; however the airbags never deployed. I luckily ended up alright physically; however somebody else with the same car may not have my stroke of luck that I had that day.
Purchased a 2006 kia Rio new. About eight months ago or so the "air bag off" light would be on when someone was seated in the passenger seat, kia replaced the seat sensors, but nothing else in the system. A factory mechanic inspected the car and said it was working properly. They could not fix the problem to this day. I have been told that when the light is on that the air bag will not deploy in an accident. Kia makes a very poor product. I have a transmission leak and I went to the dealer and they said the transmission needed to be replaced, but kia would not honor their warranty even though I changed the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles as they recommend. Kia does not take care of their customers. Someone needs to hold their feet to the fire and make them honor their 100,000 mile warranty.
Airbag deployed without impact to the vehicle or any other vehicle present. Vehicle in question is a 2005 brand new kia Rio [xxx]. Myself & daughter were driving on the highway on Dec 3rd 2005, we ran over a tire tread on the highway, proceeded maybe 1/2 a mile & the airbag deploys from out of nowhere. Car was towed to the kia dealership, it took them a week to determine that they were not going to repair the vehicle which is an obvious defect. I was told by the service manager & technicians that there was no impact to the vehicle & airbag should not have deployed. Kia advised me to go through my insurance, they are not responsible. I am at the mercy of kia, I am unable to find an attorney that will plead my case because myself & my daughter did not have serious injuries at the time of the incident, we substained neck & head injury but nothing that would warrant hospitalization, thank god. I need help & there is no one to fight on our behalf, this is the only voice I have. Updated 07/17/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

During a frontal-impact accident, the driver airbag failed to deploy until after I hit the steering wheel. I then saw the passenger airbag deploy. Neither the seat belt nor the airbag stopped me from hitting the steering wheel causing chest wall contusions and muscle strains in chest and back. I'm still out of work due to the injuries. The car was totaled.
