Kia Motor Sedona owners have reported 3 problems related to coolant leaking (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Sedona based on all problems reported for the Sedona.
Kia Sedonas have known headgasket engine coolant leak issue that can result in engine failure and is dangerous. Engine coolant leak had been confirmed by smell initially, as well as white smoke, low coolant in reservoir. Then took to 2 separate mechanics who both verified engine coolant leak. First said did not fix these. The 2nd mechanic refused to fix due to difficulty removing this particular engine to repair, would not touch it. Got letter in the mail from kia directly saying "warranty extension on 2015-2016 kia Sedonas with engine coolant leak" "take to dealer if above symptoms, and will be diagnosed at no cost, fixed at no cost etc". . . Kia of asheville, nc dealer, wanted money to diagnose despite showing letter. Paid them. They verified engine coolant leak w relationship to headgaskets. Now wants approx $1000 to "look into it more" and kia customer service is not supporting dealer to fix this known issue with 2015-2016 kia Sedonas regarding coolant leak. My engine could have caught fire or seized if I had not been so careful with it and immediately stopped driving. I have evidence verifying this from independent mechanics as well as kia. There is a serious risk of death of driving these vehicles, where a major recall needs to happen immediately. Without coolant, loose headgaskets, engines overheat and get destroyed and mine happened suddenly, and luckily I was not on the interstate. Welch automotive franklin nc was the first mechanic to diagnose, then stamey perfromance franklin nc was the second one to confirm, paramount kia asheville nc was the most recent one who still has it and now is trying to give it back without fixing. . . . . Oddly enough they recalled the 2015-2016 sorentos with the same motor and issues, but not Sedonas. . . . . . I can add diagnosis from welch and stamey performance as well if needed, but this is kia saying the headgasket coolant leak from their own mechanic. Also have more evidence. Please investigate this. Thank you!!.

We have a 2016 kia Sedona, bought in 2017 as a kia certified. We have had several recalls since our ownership. For the last 2-3 years we have driven it sparingly. We took it to the kia dealership for regular oil change at 97,000 + miles. There was no mention of any major engine concerns. We again took it in to the kia dealership, for a spare tire cable issue at 99,186 miles again no mention of engine issues. The kia dealership performed a multipoint inspection, and repaired a turn signal issue, and suggested some other maintenance items, that would need attention soon, brakes ect. At 102,866, we took the vehicle to a repair shop, we have used before, for an oil change. We were informed that someone had put stop leak in the coolant system. They said we should take it to the dealership for a head gasket issue. We took it to another full service shop, where, they didn't detect a coolant leak. We did notice coolant was running low, but none was spotted on the ground. We took it back to the previous repair shop, where they informed us of a possible blowned head gasket, but couldn't confirm, because of oil all over the under carriage, through all of this there were no warning signal or lights, until the temp gage moved towards high and the oil light flickered a couple of times. We were told that the engine was probably shot. The vehicle is again at the kia dealership. No resolve yet. We now understand that that kia has recalled quite a number of their vehicles for simular engine issues. We got a recall for a leaking oil switch, which we informed the dealership of. Are the kia Sedona's on the recall list?.
We went on a road trip from ohio to texas and the vehicle started making a sound we immediately pulled it over and all the lights (oil, engine, etc¦) came on. We had it towed to a kia dealership and found out that the whole bottom of the vehicle was corroded. There was a hole in the the coolant line and all of the coolant leaked out of the car causing the vehicle to overheat and destroyed the engine. There was no warning about a problem with the coolant line. Now all of the lines need to be replaced because it is all corroded underneath the car. They are quoting over $20,000 of repair work for the vehicle. We have under 80,000 miles. We never had these problems on our 2002 kia spectra that we still own. Kia is currently unwilling to repair or replace this defective vehicle.
