The car gets this random smell of burning plastic. When this happens theres s crackling sound that comes from the dash board. Also the car randomly doesnt start. The lights and radio will work but the car does nothing when you turn the key this seems to happen mostly after the burning smell. I have replaced the battery, fuses and relay switches and nothing works. I've had it at the mechanic and they haven't been able to find the cause. It's very scary smelling burning plastic and hearing crackling while driving down the road. I'm stuck paying for a car I'm to scared to drive.

I have been having an intermittent "non-start" issue with my car. I would turn the key and nothing. The lights would go on, radio would go on, but the car wouldn't do anything towards cranking and starting. No clicking noise, nothing. I would get out of the car open and close some doors and most of the time it would start. Also, I was driving on the highway when the esc off light came on. Whenever I stopped it would go off until I got back on the highway again. I had my mechanic plug it in to see if any error codes show, but there was nothing. I checked online and found a recall for these exact issues tied to the stop lamp switch, but when I took the car to kia dealership they said they had fixed the recall a couple years earlier. I bought a new stop lamp switch myself, (genuine kia part, not generic,) and had it replaced again. (cheap part of and installation. ) I then went on road trip and nothing was fixed. Esc off light was on nearly the whole time and I had a non-start during trip. There has to be another issue involved here. I live in new york city so I hardly ever am driving on highways, so road trips was only time I would see esc off light and I rarely if ever use cruise control, so I don;t know if I would have the cruise control issue tied to this standard group of issues either.
The contact owns a 2004 kia Sedona Mini van. The contact stated their recall 03v158000 concerning abs brakes was issued in 2003 for the 2003 kia Sedona. This vehicle was having the same problem as stated in the recall. However the manufacturer will not include 2004 in the recall. Front ends shimmied while braking. She was concerned because the recall stated that this could cause extended stopping distances and result in a crash. Kia has turned the rotors and pads four times. While making a hard stop when coming off of a freeway the front end, steering wheel, and the entire vehicle shook and shimmied. The contact had this problem since the purchase of the vehicle on March 14, 2004. The dealership and manufacturer were not willing to repair the vehicle right now under the recall. She was in touch with arbitration, and with consumer affairs to possibly apply the lemon law for this vehicle. She has a letter that was written from kia general sales manager, where she takes vehicle in for service. The letter stated: that 2003 recall came from Kia Motor corporation not from dealership. Therefore, she might qualify for the lemon law. Also, told her to pursue the problem that way. The contact has copies of the letters available from the agencies that she corresponded with. The consumer also heard a ticking noise coming from the engine.
