Kia Motor Sedona owners have reported 2 problems related to timing tensioner (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Sedona based on all problems reported for the Sedona.
The timing chain tensioners bleed down pressure after the vehicle has set for a few hours causing chain slap at start up which over time will damage internal engine components up to and including timing issues that could cause engine failure. While there is a TSB from kia on this known issue kia claims it is normal to hear the chain slap against the engine walls until the tensioners build pressure over several seconds.

Heavy rattling coming from tensioners/timing chain (per dealer) when starting the vehicle. After you drive around and park for ten minutes then restart it comes back louder . The dealer says it is normal and that all kia vehicles make this sound . They are going to put in a second set of tensioners to try to get rid of this noise . .
