Starter Problems of Kia Motor Sephia

The contact owns a 2001 kia Sephia. The vehicle failed to start after several attempts. The starter and two relays were replaced; however, the failure immediately recurred. The contact has not had the vehicle diagnosed by an authorized dealer to determine the cause of the failure. She is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. This car has been a constant repair and financial problem for the last 4 years starting two weeks after I purchased the car. It is an unsafe vehicle and can not be kept maintained for safety or reliability it was purchased with 21000 miles on the vehicle and a majority of repairs has had to be fixed. 4 starters, ignition switch, ignition switch wiring harness (ignition still doesn't work), air bag sensor, air bag wiring (air bags still does not work), alternator, front passenger side drive axel broke while I was driving the car, right passenger ball joint fell off the car while I was driving the car, master cylinder and rear brake cylinder went out at the same time while I was driving the car, heater/air conditioning motor. The car has been towed 3 times, and has left me and my children stranded too many times to count. The car is still in need of major repair. The driver rear stabilizer bushings need replaced, the driver's side drive axel needs replaced, the air bags still do not work, the ignition switch still gets stuck and won't turn over, and two weeks ago a piston was thrown through the engine and caught the car on fire. The car is now parked in my drive way leaving me stuck with a car payment and a car that is not worth fixing.

I am unable to start my car in cold weather. Anytime it gets below 30 degrees, the car will crank and not turn over. I tried replacing the battery. That did not work. The car otherwise starts in warmer weather. This is unreasonable. I can't be stuck in the wintertime with this vehicle. I've heard there are others who have this same problem. Maybe you should look into this and maybe process a recall for this issue.

Consumer had to have the motor rebuilt. The engine was rebuilt because the engine kept overheating. Now the transmission needs to be replaced but the consumer cannot afford to repair it. The starter was also replaced.

Purchased the car in 1999. Have had numerous problems starting it. Replaced the starter 3 times. Still have prblems starting it. 2002 didn't pass inspection because of exaust, kia dealership was suppose to fix problem still having problems starting and exaust inspection failed again.

Starter keeps going out, has had it replaced 3 times, not covering this time, since the purchase of vehicle in August, 2000. Dealer is in process of ordering another new starter for auto.

Before 40,000 miles, had fuel pump changed 2 times, starter changed 2 times, new transmission, ignition control module once, doors replaced due to defect, new paint job due to trash under original paint job, all hub caps and trim were replaced due to fading at 10,000 miles (which faded again a few thousand miles later), ac blower resistor motor replaced, all mirrors were replaced, electrical short in dome light, & ignition switch replaced. I bought my car in oct 2001, and was put in shop for the first time in Jan. 2002 and has been there 55 days since. I have kept up with all required maintenance. Sorry, but this car is junk. And I hate to have had a bad experience buying my first new vehicle.

Transmission has been worked on over past year. Abs light came on and stayed on due to catalytic converter failure. Wheel bearing failed and was replaced. Automatic transmission had no engagement due to half shaft failure. Engine stalled at a stop due to transmission assembly failure. Brakes were noisy and were replaced, including the rotors. Engine will not start due to battery and starter failure.

Starter failed. Yh.

Vehicle won't start. Nlm.

Vehicle will intermittently stall while driving. It happens at any speed. Contacted dealer, and the dealer stated that starter's fuse burned out.

Starter won't work, and consumer can't start vehicle up until the third time. Also, windshield wiper's are working intermittently, causing the consumer to pull to the side of the road.

Electrical system experienced several failures (battery, starter and connectors).

Starter started grinding and intermittently failed. Yh.

When alarm system was installed a hole was drilled through wiring harness,harness was replaced as well a ignition switch, however vehicle has experienced continued failures within the electrical system (battery,starter motor and wiring failures), inproper installation was the possible cause of all electrical failures. Yh (attorney for consumer).

The brakes have failed twice and the starter once. The dealership and kia have not been of any help.

Consumer was experiencing the following ongoing problems: transmission made loud noise when changing gears , and gears did not lock into place when put in park/fuses kept blowing out, had replaced electrical wires/starter was not strong enough to start vehicle & needed to be replaced, and brakes had to be replaced due to excessive wear of front brake rotors, calipers & pads. Brake problem still exists.

Warped front and rear rotors/ intermittent stalling. Replaced starter/battery/throttle body/starter motor and adjusted timing gear and chain.

The vehicle has starting problems.

Premature wear of brake pads and rotors. Dealer has repaired and replaced the brakes several times. In addition heater core, alternator, starter,spark plugs, front windshield and door weather strips failed.

While driving approximately 65 mph, hood released and smashed into windshield which blocked vision of driver, consumer felt problem was due to brake pads and rotors that cause severe vibration and had to be replaced frequently, there was no crash or injury to report when this incident occurred. Brakes would vibrate and were noisy, requested rear brakes be cleaned lubed, dealer found rotors warped and pads worn and excessive dust in rear brakes, numerous engine problems such as cooling fan rumble, check engine light on, engine stall, burning smell, belt squeaks, electric cooling fan inoperative, fan blade, plug wires and coil boots, valve cover gasket were replaced, evaporator was replaced and recharged, many electrical problems including ignition switch, starter, alternator, multifunction switch, battery terminal, and bulb failure, dealer has also found corrosion, poor connections and low voltage, consumer states numerous problems with shifter, harsh shifts and clunks, dealer replaced old style flex plate, binding shifter which was cleaned and lubed, fluid leaks, dealer replaced leaking power steering hose, multiple structural problems such as missing wiper arm cap, key will not open trunk, trunk lever does not release, broken trunk release handle, left rear door molding coming off, dealer replaced trunk release, reinstalled door weatherstrip, found oil leaks, and undercarriage showing signs of damage, bubbles in dash pad, sunvisor coming loose, dealer replaced dash pad, dealer found tail pipe damaged, both front aftermarket tires (no tire information) worn, left rear rim bent, rear tires (no tire information) cupped and feathered due to lack of rotation and alignment problems, consumer also requested dealer to check cv boots for grease leak, dealer found no problem.

The car wouldn't start shortly after I bought it. It took several trips to the dealer in order for them to replace the starter. After the starter was replaced the problem continued and the flywheel was finally replaced. Approximately one week prior to receiving a recall notice on the wiper blades the wipers stopped working during heavy rain on a highway which almost caused me to get into an accident. I have had electrical problems such as the ceiling light going on and off whenever I turned corners. The car battery was even replaced after the new starter and flywheel were put in because the car still had problems starting. Recently the transmission had to be replaced. A week after the transmission was replaced the overdrive light and the engine light started blinking on and off. The car finally stalled and had to be towed. The car was given back to me and I was told that a gasket in the transmission was leaking. A week after that the over drive light and the engine light started flashing again and the car starting driving as if it was stuck in first gear. The car finally stalled again and wouldn't move.
