While driving 10mph a fire started under the hood.
Vehicle does not have any power. Vehicle has been checked by dealer, who has replaced wire harness/ 2 computer chips, and transmission twice. Vehicle was picked up 7/3/02, and broke down again. Consumer has to have pedal floored for vehicle to move.

While driving vehicle, went to stop & had no brakes. Pulled up on the emergency brake, looked in rearview mirror and noticed smoke all over. Pulled over & got out quickly. Opened paseinger door to get belongings & noticed flames coming from underneath. Called 911. Car was burning tremendously. A total loss. My daughter was driving, and got out safely. This happened for no apparent reason. What a traumatic experience, especially for a 17 yr. Old.
After I t-boned a Jeep, I got out of my car and then my car caught fire under the hood and quickly went up and flames.
Within a matter of seconds the engine compartment went form some black smoke to flames hot enough to melt interior items such as window visor and exterior items such as front tires. Firewall held. Fire occurred in front of hillsboro fire department bldg and was put out within minutes. Vehicle was totalled.

While driving at approximately 25 mph, an electrical fire started in steering column and flames were coming from underneath the hood. Consumer was unable to turn engine off by turning the key in the ignition. Insurance company is in possession of vehicle, but has not informed consumer as to what caused the fire to occur. Consumer was unable to turn engine off, but was able to jump out of vehicle while moving, three recalls were performed on this vehicle and consumer believes that recall should have been performed prior to purchase, consumer also complains that the vehicle is noisy, exhibits hard start condition, sluggish acceleration, and inoperative fuel gauge.
Hartford claim #: ybsmd79874. Fire under hood - battery cable/trans area. Total loss.
While driving on highway could see smoke coming from engine. Stopped vehicle and found out that vehicle caught underhood fire, and was totalled.
Have taken vehicle for fuel pump problems over 6x. . 3 recalls & still seems to run hard/stall. Transmission first brought in on 1/1/00, they couldn't diagnose and then 3/23/01 diagnosed for same problem- repaired. Now sticks in 3-4th gear. All 4 original tires have separated and been replaced (15k miles and 24k miles). Electrical still causing powertrain and accessory-related (radio) recurringly fail. Car is extremely dangerous and kia/dealership fails to diagnose/repair only until recall on exact prev brought in problems occur (and keep recurring). This partic vehicle is extreme hazard/liability to drive. (tiresize: 185/65r14)( dot number: tire size: 185/65r14 ).
Consumer states vehicle overheated, there was steam coming from under the hood, dealer reparied the wiring, power wire to fan melted causing short to ground.
While driving smoke appeared from underhood & sparks were poppingout. Pulled over. Lifted hood & flames shot out. Tried using fire extinguisher to no avail. Fire department arrived & put flames out. Fire had remained underhood and did not spread, possible indication was electrical.
While driving down highway, noticed smoke coming from dash area. Brakes were applied but failed. Kept trying brakes and finally managed to pull to side of road. Passengers left vehicle, looked under vehicle and saw flames. They got away from the car and within 5 or 10 minutes, whole car was in flames. Cause of fire is under investigation.
While stopping at a red light saw/smelled smoke. After investigating where it was coming from, consumer raised the hood and found smoke coming from the conjuction box. Tires had to be replaced after 27,667 miles.
Was driving vehicle & noticed smoke coming through the vents. Pulled over & smoke filled the interior. Vehicle towed to dealership. Mechanic checked under hood & noticed the electrical wires were frayed. Could not locate cause of the frayed wires.

Brakes failed causing accident, they have been replaced 4 times also rotors fuel pump, transmission, glovebox,wiring harness, many other things too. . . Could have lost my 2 of my grandsons in the accident. . . Are we going to put up with this??? I can be reached at vitello@pgh. Net.
Due to wiring problems vehicle had stalled, a fire started underneath the hood.
The car blown white smoke from the hood of the car!!!now the car don't run under 10 to 15 miles and hour!!! this car has too many recalls and too many major problems. In some cases I feel like suing someone who sells a car in such dangerous conditions know my warranty is up I guess!!.
Engine stalling constantly, several repair attempts, however final repair of the engine wiring harness corrected problems.
A fire started from main wiring harness under dash which led to fuse recpticle under hood. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified. When the wiring harness burned, the air bag, the radio, dashboard lights, the cooling fan and the a/c failed. This problem reoccurred several times. Tail light, turn signal, head lights, starter and the alternator also failed as the result of the wiring harness.
When driving vehicle the engine just stops without warning. The wiring harness and engine were replaced in April of 97. Wiring harness has been replaced (2) other times, 6/20/97 & 8/15/ 97. The wiring harness needs replacing for a fourth time.

I am a fire investigator. I have examined 4 kia Sephia's with same fire origin. +12 volt conductor from battery to starter is chafing on transmission dipstick tube.
While traveling on highway vehicle started smoking from underneath the vehicle dealership is aware of problem.
