2/26/21 engine failure cylinder 4 loss of compression possibly due to debri in the engine during assembly. P0304 code misfire in cylinder 4. I have called other kia dealerships to ask if anyone else had this same issue and they told me yes. Johnstown PA, team kia where I was towed to informed me of the same issue involving cylinder 4. I was driving to pittsburgh, PA on the PA tp absolutely loss power climbing the mountain. I was going approx 70 mph in the left lane with cars and tractor trailers behind me. Luckily I was able to get to the right side to pull over and check out the codes. I always carry a engine code reader in my car. I had researched the multiple issues with the 2. 4 liter engine associated with debri in the engine. I feel this failure has something to do with that. I have done my maintenance on my vehicle since I drove it off the lot in 8/2012. I have all repair and recall records associated with my vehicle, I have done all the recalls associated with my SUV. I have all receipts for oil changes, transmission & front and rear differential changes. I have used bg-44 products to keep my engine valves clean and clear of any deposits. I have used super unleaded to clean the fuel system, at every oil change I pull the throttle body off and clean it thoroughly. There is no way that everything I have done could have caused this failure with cylinder 4. I do believe there is a breakdown in workmanship with this engine. I am having my mechanic tear it apart and check to see if the cylinder wall is scored from debri at the time of assembly and push this back on kia for reimbursement of the engine. I will update this safety complaint as I find out from my mechanic.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The mechanic then printed out information about NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) which the mechanic linked to her failure. The contact then called NHTSA where she was informed that her vehicle was not included in the recall. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. Jo.
While driving on the highway a clicking loud clicking began. Several dash lights flashed. The vehicle was pulled on to the shoulder and turned off. The car refused to start. Several attempts to jump the battery were made. The car was towed to a mechanic who diagnosed the issue as engine failure, specifically the engine rapidly consuming the oil.
2013 kia Sorento ,,, 120,000 miles one owner, regular maintance on time. Engine failed on hyway , my mechanic said its a recslled engine. Towed to kia , after two months of back and fourth phine calls, kia said its not a recallled engine. The probkem is kia sent nobody to inspect engine , and they run you around on phone. Not happy.
"engine failure recall" and rod bearings not properly working. Was on the highway driving when car started making a tisking noise, it would get louder as accelerating so I began to exit the highway. I became increasingly loud and the temperature starting to increase. I parked and at this time it was shaking and very loudly. Recall stated correct year and model but not covered! engine not replaced however the problem is in line with the recall.
The engine failed to start. The vehicle was parked on the street during the work day. The vehicle was towed to a kia dealership. We were initially told by the kia dealership that a new starter was needed. Once installed the dealership said the engine ceased. The engine only had 88,299 miles on it. The motor had to be replaced. There was no indication that something was wrong with the engine. Routine maintenance was made to the vehicle. Luckily we bought an extended warranty we we purchased this used vehicle and there was no out of pocket expense. However you are at the warranty company's mercy on whether or not the repair is covered. Although it took some time, we were covered.
Engine failure while driving down a major highway in heavy traffic. Same issue as recalled engines but kia refuses to address the issue on this vehicle.
~tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While driving from new jersey to florida, the contact noticed that the oil level was low. The contact stopped to add oil to the vehicle. Once the contact arrived in florida, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a kia dealer in florida, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle remained at the dealer with possible oil and engine failures. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling), but she was not informed of it when the vehicle was purchased in July of 2017 from the kia dealer in new jersey. The failure mileage was 78,900.
2013 kia Sorento. Consumer writes in regards to engine failure. The consumer stated the manufacturer and dealer were both notified but could not offer a solution.
At 89k miles, I was driving approximately 65 mph on an incline on vacation 700 miles from home, I heard a bunch of noise coming from underneath the vehicle. All the lights on the dash lit up and engine stalled. I coasted across 2 lanes of traffic and came to a stop on the side of the road. I had the car towed to the closest mechanic for inspection. The rod had blown a hole in my engine with no prior indication that anything was wrong with the vehicle. I called kia consumer affairs who told me to have the car towed to a kia dealership for inspection which I did. The cost for repair is $10k , kia states that my 2. 4l engine is not part of the recall or affected engines. My car has been maintained and the oil was changed before we left on this trip. Both the service manager at kia and the mechanic at the other shop say that this scenario is consistent with the other engine failures that are included in the recall. The lower block is in fact exactly the same engine. Heather from kia took my original case information (4/04) and said I would hear back. Two days later I called again and spoke with helena who also said she would work on it and call me back. She also said this VIN was not included in recall "yet". 7 days later and no response, I called again. This time the rep told me that helena had tried to call me and because I didn't answer the phone, she closed my case. This is a complete lie, I have my phone with me 100% of the time and have been anxiously awaiting a call. Do they not realize caller id is available for a records check? they have supposedly reopened my case and I should hear back in 48 hours. No vehicle should have an engine failure at 89k miles. Kia made money on the sale of all of these vehicles and now they are making more money on customers having to buy new engines at $10k? they will be hearing from an attorney if this is not resolved.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and then towed to sunset kia of bradenton (4770 14th street west, (us41), bradenton, FL 34207, (941) 752-1000) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine failed due to metal shavings that were found in the engine upon inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted that a used engine would be provided for the replacement; however, a labor charge would be assessed for the repair. The contact was provided case number: 12622086. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the oil warning indicator illuminated immediately afterwards. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (bill Dodge kia in saco, maine) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer a month prior for an engine evaluation as per the manufacturer's recall notification. During that time, the contact was informed that the engine was fine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and case number: 112611205 was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
Engine failed at 82,000. 00 miles. This is the 2. 4l I-4 mpi engine that is not included in the recall. Vehicle is at dealer awaiting replacement engine. Technician states that the failed engine part is identical to the gdi that which was recalled. It has been a month and dealer cannot give timetable on the repair. Just that the engine is on order. Come on kia get your act together on this. Before this incident this was the best vehicle I have ever owned.
Total engine failure 2013 kia Sorento. Was traveling along highway at 55 mph, vehicle suddenly shuddered and stalled. Coasted it to the side of the road and vehicle would not start so had it towed to dealer. Was advised today there was major internal engine damage requiring a replacement engine. SUV only has 78,000 miles on and is not covered under kia 100,000 mile warranty due to the fact I am second owner and not original owner.
Vehicle experienced mechanical engine failure and immediate reduction in power while driving around 30 mph up hill. Failure at a higher speed of travel, could have resulted in significant danger to occupants. This vehicle was equipped with the 2. 4l mpi engine, which failed in a way consistent with the recalled failure of the 2. 4l gdi version. Believe kia is under-representing the scope of engine problems in the current recall campaign. The engines are failing in the region of connection rod bearings and lower block, while the main difference between the mpi and gdi versions of the engine are in the upper portion of the engine involving fuel injection. Believe the mpi version should be investigated for containing identical or very similar failure modes and manufacturing defects, as they are indeed the same engine family with many shared components.
2013 kia Sorento. Consumer writes in regards to engine failure while driving. The consumer stated the manufacturer should be responsible for having the engine replaced. The engine in the vehicle was no longer in production. Updated 10/02/2017.
Military stationed overseas with an upcoming move to the USA (moved August 2017). Engine light illuminated on June 25 2017. Engine knock started on June 26. Towed to dealership in england on July 11. Car was ruled inoperable with engine failure on July 12. We were forced to leave our car in england due to parts availability and lack of assistance from kia. We still have not heard about parts availability nor are we in possession of our car. Nearing 3 months without our vehicle has put us in financial distress.
While traveling at 75 mph on the freeway. The compression went to zero and the vehicle stalled in a dangerous location next to a guardrail. The engine oil flowed out of the engine and there was dark smoke billowing out of the exhaust. The kia was towed home at my expense. The vehicle had service through its' entire warranty period with kia dealership. They made major repairs as well as oil changes for compliance with warranty. The vehicle is out of warranty by 20k. Kia will not cover the engine replacement which is needed. This is the same pattern of mechanical failure regarding engine oil problems leading to catastrophic engine failure and costly repairs.
I purchased my kia new in 2012. Performed regular maintenance. It shut down while driving and smoke poured from the engine. The dealer said the block was cracked in two places and there was catastrophic engine failure. It has just over 100,000 miles. I have a van that has 270,000 miles and never had a problem with the engine. They told me there was metal shavings in the oil. When I found a garage to replace it for $1,000 less, that mechanic told me he just replaced an engine in a 2013 kia Sorento that only had 30k miles on it. Kia denied their warranty. I believe kia is a complete rip off. I hope I can get this traded in before this used engine does the same thing. I will never ever buy another kia.
At 60,800 mile my kia Sorentos engine blew. I took it to the service department believing it would be under warranty only to find out they voided my warranty stating I had excessive sludge in the engine. For more than a month prior to that incident we also had a airbag light illuminate and stay on. At the time of engine failure we thought that we could fix that issue as well only to find that my electrical warranty went out at 60,000 miles. I have been researching these items online only to find that there is multiple complaints of both engine failure and the airbag light illuminating which is said to be a control module. With the amount of complaints out there why is there no recall.
