Tl- the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the contact heard an abnormal, knocking sound emit from the engine without warning. Due to the failure, the contact initially had the vehicle towed to their home and an independent mechanic came to inspect the vehicle. Upon inspection, the mechanic recommended that the vehicle be serviced at a kia dealer; therefore the vehicle was towed to stokes kia( 202 s goose creek blvd, goose creek, SC 29445). The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The manufacturer was notified and they agreed that they would pay for the parts and that the contact paid for the labor. Upon investigation, the contact then discovered NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000(engine) which she linked to her failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 108,000. Jo.

My car stalled going around 65-70 mph on the highway, and power steering and acceleration completely ceased. After pulling over I waited a minute and tried to start it again and my engine has a very loud knocking sound coming from it, and it drives extremely rough. I never had any warning signs prior to this, and now my check engine light has been blinking. I have always kept up with the maintenance and oil changes on my vehicle, and now it is throwing a "p1326" code. I had it towed to my house to prevent further damage or possible accident!.

I already filed a claim the other day, but now my 2013 Sorento has gotten even worse! my car stalled on the highway going around 65-70 mph, and power steering and acceleration completely ceased. After getting home and calling to report this, I took it for a test drive, and my engine has a very loud knocking sound coming from it, and it drives extremely rough. I never had any warning signs prior to this, and now my check engine light has been blinking. I have always kept up with the maintenance and oil changes on my vehicle, and now it is throwing a "p1326" code. It stalled twice prior to this while driving. I don't understand how my engine wasn't recalled prior to this when there was an engine recall on my exact year and model for rod bearing wear! this is my only form of transportation, and kia is aware of these problems but just keeps throwing bandaids on the actual problem! when is this going to end? engines are catching on fire, people (including myself) are stalling at high speeds on the road due to their faulty craftsmanship! I want answers!! how many people will have to die before they do something about this? I either want a recall on my engine, or I want a warranty to cover the problem they are already aware of! I refuse to put mine or my daughter's life in jeopardy because kia does not want to own up to their problem! there are thousands of complaints, when will this end?! I'm still paying on a car I can't even drive due to manufacturer error!! this is ridiculous! I will never own another kia due to their safety violations, and I can't wait until I can get rid of this car and not have to worry about our safety any longer. I want something done now! I will not stop until something is done about this.
Engine has knocking sound. Gets worse with a/c on seems and when put in reverse. Mornings the loudest. Gets louder on and off. I recently bought the vehicle.
The engine of my 2013 kia Sorento, with less than 58k miles, seized and shut off completely, causing the steering wheel to lock when I was driving on a busy suburban street. Thankfully, I was able to coast to the side of the road, where I was able to restart the engine and drive home, noting a knocking noise in the engine the whole way. The car remained in our garage for the next couple weeks while we were on vacation. Once home, I drove the car (knocking all the way) to firestone where they diagnosed the issue as a probable bottom end engine connecting rod failure, noting they had seen at least five or more kia Sorentos with the same problem, then proceeded to pull up the NHTSA recall for 2011-2013 Sorentos with engine failure relating to bottom end connecting rods. The car had barely made it to firestone (where the engine died completely) and had to be towed to the jim sipala kia dealership in west chester, PA, where the car had been purchased, used, in 2014, with about 16,000 miles. Sipala kia diagnosed what firestone had suspected but refused to do anything b/c the VIN # of my car did not match those in the recall, even though it was the exact same issue, which they did not deny. The issue my car has falls under the NHTSA safety recall #17v224000, recall date 3/31/17, wherein the consequence of this issue is noted as bearing wear may result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash. , which is exactly what happened to me.
I have a 2013 kia Sorento. While driving down a city road the car only moving 45 mph every light on the dash started to blink, steering wheel began to become difficult to turn and car eventually stalled on side of road. Car had to be towed to home and then towed to kia dealer of stonecrest in lithonia,GA. The car was given a diagnostic that for it to run the alternator needed to be replaced. Alternator was replaced at a cost of 1,056. 00. Drove vehicle home and drove onto highway later that evening where I heard knocking noises, sensor lights flashed. The car began to smoke and steering wheel locked. I was alone on busy highway at night in between exits and my husband and the tow truck struggled with pinpointing my location. This was very scary with cars driving at 70+ mph past me and my hazard lights were losing power. Had to have car towed once again. Kia now says the engine needs replaced and asking for 6,000. Kia has history of engine recalls but claim my VIN is not included in recall so they will not replace. Vehicle only has 100,000 miles and has had consistent oil changes. Now I'm stuck with a pricey repair on a vehicle that is not paid off. This situation is dangerous and appears to be a common trend with kia vehicles.
Driving highway engine make loud knocking sound and car stop running. After cool down, I was able to start but making loud knocking sound.
I was driving home from work on a county highway when all of sudden the engine started making a loud knocking noise and was losing power. I was thankfully able to pull over to a gas station where the car stalled out. My husband met me and we had the car towed to a mechanic who has told us that the engine needs to be replaced. I have called kia and got the "run around" saying that it's out of warranty and nothing can be done. Research online has shown that this has been a known issue with this particular engine for years. Luckily I was able to pull over safely but if this had happened on the interstate traveling 70mph who knows what could have happened.
Driving down the road and all of a sudden our kia started making a knocking sound in the engine. We slowed down and started to pull over when we hear pieces of our car breaking off and saw a huge cloud of white smoke. When we pulled over and got out of the car, the whole underneath of the engine was on fire. The engine was seizing and caused the bearing to punch a hole into the engine. The parts we hear flying off were actually pieces of the engine exterior, which caused sparks and ignited the fire when the engine oil started pouring out. This happened without warning and we have kept up on maintenance. Less than 100k miles. VIN is not part of engine recall, however it is clear upon little research that kia knows about this problem, they don't care, and they are doing little to fix it. It's obviously a huge safety issue, these are people's lives we're putting at stake and these cars need off the road. They are not safe. Please help the public do something about this.
Excessive oil consumption. The engine uses 1 quart of oil every 500 miles. Unable to maintain full oil, engine makes knocking noises when not at full level. Vehicle contains the theta engine included in previous recalls but has not failed yet. Dealer resistant to replace engine due to mileage over 100,000, out of warranty.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While operating the vehicle, a knocking noise was present coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 95,000.
While driving to tucson from mesa on interstate 10, my engine started making knocking noises and lost power , thereby stalling by the roadside. It has 89,000 miles on and has been meticulously maintained with regular oil changes. I towed it to my mechanic who said the vehicle had suffered a catastrophic engine failure with metal shavings from the failed bearing all visible on opening the valve cover. He suggested I contact kia to see if this engine was part of the recall SC 0147 which is a recall due to this kind of failure from a manufacturing defect. After investigating, kia denied my request stating this particular engine was not under recall and therefore could not have suffered this same defect. They refused to tell me when and where the engine was manufactured was manufactured, in my attempt to link the engine with those under recall, just stating it was not part of the recall. I therefore have to meet the cost of replacing a whole engine that my mechanic believes suffered the same manufacturing failures as the the ones recalled. This is not fair.
A knocking noise was heard from the engine and vehicle was taken in to repair because of recall. Dealership refused to correct the needed repair. Eventually, the noise increased in frequency and engine failed. My husband was driving the vehicle on the highway when engine failed and vehicle came to a complete stop.
Recall 2013 kia Sorento vehicles engine knocking sound.
On October 6th, I was commuting home from work and my vehicle started making noise upon acceleration that sounded like something was loose. Once I arrived at my house, I noticed a knocking sound as I put my vehicle in park. Out nearest kia service department is not open on saturdays so I took it to a nearby mechanic. They determined there was a bearing issue and I would have to replace the engine. They had a difficult time giving me a complete estimate because they had trouble finding all parts needed. I contacted kia on Monday and asked if they could help me as I was just a bit over the 100,000 warranty. They suggested I call kia and speak to a customer service rep and open a case with them. I opened a case and they suggested I bring my car into kia for a diagnostic. I brought it in on Tuesday and they confirmed there was a bearing issue and the engine would need to be replaced. I was quoted $7,700 before tax for a re-manufactured engine and over $12,000 for a fully assembled engine. My request for kia to assist me with this repair was put in, I forwarded my maintenance records to the dealership and they sent that along with some photos the district parts and service manager requested of my engine. I did not hear back from kia even after attempting to follow up daily until October 25 after I requested my case be escalated. I inquired with my case manager, customer service reps, and the service manager at the dealership about what actually went wrong with my engine and how this situation is unlike the most recent recall on my same year make and model engines-only those were gdi. I confirmed that it was a rod bearing that caused metal shavings to be fond in my engine. Based on my research of the recent recall, this is exactly what the issue was. I'm not sire why with so many similar complaints, other engines were not considered in the recall.
Around 4:30am (still dark outside) I was on my way to work, my engine was making knocking sounds and I started to get off on an exit, all of the sudden it seemed as if every light on the dashboard came on, the oil change light and some signs I've never seen before lighted up, the car went dead and came back on instantly, the steering wheel locked and I could no longer accelerate almost causing a major car accident. I turned my hazards on and remained in the middle of an exit until help arrived and was able to put my car in neutral and push my vehicle bumper to bumper to the side of the road.
I experience a loud knocking in my engine, upon bringing to the dealership for further inspection, the engine is believed that the rod bearings failed and the engine has metal debri insode of engine. Causing the engine to be completely unusable and possibly other engine damage because of this. Not to mention the sensors on the car never came on to warn me of any possible problems that might be happening. The car is still being owed on and in undrivable condition. It has been since parked, except when towed ( full bed tow) to the dealership for inspection and than towed back to my residence. The estimated cost kia offered was over $9,000 for parts and labor with only a 12,000 mile/ 1 year warranty when the original engine warranty is 100. 000 mi warranty. The maintence has been kept up on during the life of the vwhicle and no known negligence was done to cause this problem. The problem was identified when my husband was driving and the car stalled out 3 times while picking up our kids from school. When he arrived home it had lound knocking noises coming from engine , so we arranged for the dealer to inspect the issue. They informed me it was over their warranty because of the mileage and wouldnt cover the damage. I have since found out other owners with similar problems as my kia happening to them as well as the lawsuit that kia /Hyundai paid out for repairs in the case greg wallis vs. Kia motors case #8:16-cv-01033 (us district court for the central district of California. With them agreeing to pay all repairs.
My husband and I were driving north on I-49 in louisiana when our 2013 kia Sorento (approximately 86,000 miles) began making a clicking/knocking noise upon acceleration, the check engine light began blinking, and the engine immediately shut down. We pulled over to the shoulder, turned the vehicle off, and attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the engine failed to restart. We turned our emergency lights on for cautionary purposes, but after approximately 30 minutes, the lights completely stopped working. There was evidence of oil leakage underneath the vehicle, as well as oil splatter underneath the hood of the vehicle near the engine and over the entire exterior of the vehicle, from the front hood to the back window. We had the vehicle towed to the nearest kia dealership and were told by the service department that the bearings in the engine had failed, which resulted in "catastrophic engine failure," and that engine will need to be replaced. We were also informed that the engine in our vehicle is a 2. 4-l mpi engine, which is not part of the current recall; however, individuals at the dealership and with kia customer service confirmed that the problems we experienced are the exact same problems that have been reported with the 2. 4-l gdi engines that are part of this recall. We have been extremely diligent with oil changes, and had approximately 2000 miles until our next oil change, which we can support with documentation. Kia has denied our request for assistance because our vehicle is no longer under warranty.

In late June my engine started s knocking noise while I was driving and all of the sudden the car stalled in the middle of the street. I tried turning it on and the engine just kept making the knocking noise. I had my car towed to a mechanic and he let me know that my engine needed to be replaced. In September, I received a letter from kia dated August 29,2016, stating that they were extending my warranty on my vehicle because of the exact issue I had with my engine in June. At this point, I have already paid for my vehcle to be fixed, but it's still not right.
