A few months ago my rear brakes suddenly started making noise. I maintain my vehicles very well so I was surprised it happened so suddenly. When I took it in they told me the calipers had slipped and my brakes and rotors needed replacing. I noticed a leak in my garage as well. Never received a recall or warning notice from kia. When I entered my VIN my vehicle doesn't fall under the recall even though that's exactly what happened to my vehicle. I didn't even realize this until I was looking for a recall 9n a different issue.
My rear caliper has failed shortly after replacing all 4 rotars, and brake pads. Now I am facing a rather expensive bill that I cannot afford on a limitted income as I am disabled. I am also lucky that this malfunction did not cause me to crash the vehicle. I noticed my gas mileage had significantly gone down, and the rear or the vehicle was dragging, and I also heard what sounded like something dragging on the ground und erderneath the vehicle. That's when I noticed a groove being dug into my rotar by the brake pads locked in the on position.
We have replaced the brakes several times and the calipers as well. Now we are having issues again with them. We see that there has been a recall for this issue. This happened in 2017, 2018, and now again in 2019. Two out of four of our doors will not open from the outside, we see there is also a recall for this issue. Please advise us how we go about getting these recalls for our vehicle as we are tired of putting out money when we shouldn't have to repeatedly.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact stated that all of the lights on the dashboard failed to illuminate, causing the entire dashboard to go black with the exception of the glow plug. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. An engineer was requested to further inspect the vehicle however, he was also unable to determine the cause of the failure. After inspection, the vehicle began to operate as designed. The contact also stated that the brake pedal had a spongy feel to it. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 10v599000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc:caliper) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed him that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 33,500 and the current mileage was 42,000.
While driving down road, car was bearly pulling. Noticed smoke on front passenger side of car. Stopped and checked under hood and saw nothing. Walked around car and flames were coming out of wheel area. Had car towed. Had new caliper, rotor, and brake pads put on. Drove about a week. And began doing the same thing. Had car towed to mechanic shop, 4th day there the brakes went totally out. Car crashed through the door of shop and hit pole. Car in still at body shop some parts were hard to find. Still will have to get brakes fixed when I get car this week. I have been without my car since January 2013. This is March 27th 2013.
