Complete engine failure of the kia Sorento. Took the vehicle in for normal oil change and investigation of a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. When technician drove the car on a city street, the engine completely died on the road. Technician pulled off to side of the road and had it taken back to shop. When investigating, found that there was no oil in the engine. No low engine oil pressure or check engine light was present.

My car started stuttering and then the check engine light came on and started flashing. Got the code read at a kia dealership and it was determined through a diagnostic that we needed a new engine. We replaced the engine and the car is still stuttering and having gas mileage issues. When the check engine light flashes, my gas mileage is affected and when the check engine light stays on, my vehicle runs normal. My vehicle starts stuttering at around 30-35 mph, when it's first started and driven, it stutters. My check engine light will also randomly start blinking when driving on the freeway and loose power momentarily, then when I accelerate, it feels like it's choking or sputtering and struggling to maintain speed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, when the vehicle seized in the middle of the road. The contact stated the low oil level, battery and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to independent mechanic. Upon investigation the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed local dealer scott harvey kia located at 1710 n olden Ave, ewing township, NJ 08638, (866) 548-4303, where it was diagnosed with needing long or short block needing to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer has been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 136,000. Dp.
2016 kia Sorento with 67,000 miles had flashing check engine light. Car was towed to the kia dealership in which the service advisor said the fuel injector was broken which spilled fuel into the motor causing $7,800. 00 of damage. The diagnosis sis not and will not determine if it is a faulty injector and kia will not participate in covering the other parts effected in the warranty. They offered a good grace assistance for $2,500 but offered a higher price on the parts saying they are parts covered in a factory manufacturing warranty. Regardless I never had symptoms of a worn fuel injector and believe the fuel injector is and was faulty and should be investigated further. The kia managers believe this is normal for cars and that they will not comply with the warranty because of the injector causing the damage. The injector is not covered in the limited 100,000 mile warranty. This happened on Monday September 16, 2019 and was on a access road 5 miles away from my home. Currently the car is at the dealership while I wait for the next supervisor from kia corporate call me in regards to the final offer on this repair.

The engine stalled while driving on the freeway. Check engine light came on after the car lost power. We had to pull onto the shoulder of the road and the car was towed to the dealership. No warning lights of any kind came on prior to the engine stalling. Kia claims the oil was low but no check oil light ever came on. The scheduled maintenance plan was followed precisely and is up to date. Kia has a faulty engine oil pressure warning light, causing engines to stall while driving.

Vehicle continually flashes check engine light and once read at dealership shows engine misfire codes, however once code is cleared issue does not come back for months. Misfire causes decreased engine poser and eventually if code is not cleared will result in loud dinging noise. Kia has not been able to find any issues or find anything that can explain this. There are multiple people online with this same issue and yet no recall for this issue. Kia needs to do something. Vehicle can be sitting or in motion under normal operating environments (no off-roading).
When trying to speed up to merge onto the highway my check engine light came on blinking and my car was chugging and would not go past 2 rpms. Second tine this has happened since bought my car at the beginning of August.
Gossett kia on mt. Moriah in memphis, TN repaced my engine in 2019 due to a recall but after my engine was replace my check engine light has constantly been coming on. I have taken my kia Sorento back to the dealership numerous time onle to be told that I am not putting my gas cap on right or tat my gas cap needs to be replaced. I have purchased 3 gas caps from this dealer ship. I will be driving down the street and the check engine light will just come on. This issue did not start until they put in the new motor. However no one at the dealership checked the censor. I have replace numerous parts on my car and all the replacements were done at the dealership. I have requested from the dfealership a print out of all the repairs to my kia and as of todays date I have not recieved it. I have mad the request 3 times. Once over the telephone and 2 times in person . I feel defeated but I am not giving up. They need to find out what the problem is. I am 71 years old and they seem to think I don't know what I am talking about. My name is denon harris and I live at 1277 gill in memphis, TN. 38106 my phone # is 901 303 2549 I have an appoint to take my truck to kia again to check the engine light 01 08 2020. If they had checked the censor when t his first happened it would probably still be covered under my warranty. Now I will probably be out of pocket to replace the censor.
Engine stalled. Driving 55 mph on flat highway road at 9:20 pm et check engine light came on, engine stalled, I coasted to a stop, put in park, restarted the engine. Oil dipstick shows full. 89,443 miles. 2nd time in less than 7 days it stalled.
When I was driving my 2013 kia Sorento down the highway the engine started to rattle and I was losing power it would not go when I step on the gas their was no check engine light or anything on the the dash lighting up saying their was something wrong with the engine when it quit running only then the dash lights came on after it already died I was only going 50 mph it is a good thing it did not die at the intersection this car only has 55,448 on it and I was told by the kia dealership that it will need a new engine that will cost over 6,000 dollars to fix it. The service department at the dealership has not provide a copy of the service order stating what is wrong with the Sorento, even though we have requested one to send with this correspondence several times. I called kia and they were no help at all. They make unsafe cars and will not help you at all. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a kia.
My 2015 kia had its faulty engine replaced approximately 6 months ago. I drive this car approximately 9,000 miles over these months and drive it on vacation from ohio to wilmington, nc. The car was thoroughly checked by the dealer before we went on the trip- everything checked out fine. Halfway through our vacation, the check engine light came on and stayed blinking. We had it towed to a dealer in wilmington, nc. They informed us that we had a bad knock sensor, kia was covering the cost as it was part of our new engine warranty. How does this happen with a brand new engine? there is no reliability, am I supposed to limit my driving because I can’t depend on my car? what about resale value - clearly I’ve got a real lemon here. Where is my recourse?.
2015 kia Sorento -blinking check engine light and sputtering occurred while operating on congested roadways in and out of inclement weather. Strong burning smell coming from engine. No warnings prior to this event with engine.
Driving on the highway my car lost power at 11pm on a Saturday nite. It would only go aporox 40mph w the the gas petal to the floor. No check lights came on until aporox a few min from home. Only the check engine light. No overheating no smoke. I took it to my mechanic who determined it was the same issue the 2. 4 engine that was recalled. I have the 3. 3. Also the kia mechanic said the same. Only 70000 miles on the car. Kia at this point is refusing to acknowledge this is a manufacturing issue. They have had my car for 3 weeks and as of yesterday still no answer. I even left a voice mail for sean yoon the ceo. I tried to call mr yoon yesterday but got redirected to thir consumer dept. They said it takes 2-3 days to determine a decision. So im paying for a car and a rental when they already know what the issue is. One consumer dept employee I spoke w said she hasnt had very many complaints about the 3. 3. Well that right there is a red flag! I just want them to do the right thing. They also tried to tell me that because im the second owner and I was past the 60000 mi service warrenty I had no coverage and the 100000 was only for first owner. Its a manufacturers defect not anything we did. We have been loyal kia customers for over 10 years. I feel like because we didnt buy another new kia we are being punished. This cars defect could of seriously injured a lot of people if this would of happened during a busy time of day. I know they are busy taking care of other complaints but to wait 3 weeks is a bit unnerving.

Leased the car in March and by end of may it was ideling rough and clicking. Got a message on my screen engine control system failure and a check engine light came on. Took it onto the dealer and with less than 2900 miles it needs a new engine. Now it will be about 3 months (they are backlogged) until I get it back!!.

Driving on the highway going about 75 in the fast lane when the check engine light came flashing on and the car slowed down to 60 would not accelerate at all was able to get it to the dealership. On the way to the dealership I noticed shifting from 1st to 2nd it did not want to go. I was told the car was in limp mode and then got told the engine had to be replace. Estimated time for my car to be returned to me 2 months. When we first got the car was March 2019, a few days into driving it I noticed that it was shifting weird from first to second and had a hard time down shifting. We took the car back they said it's just a newer car to you and everything is fine. I said fine whatever. Now it's may and it needs a new engine. This is ridiculously dangerous we have 3 kids and what if we all were in the car and it just shut down a high speed.
Check engine light started flashing and engine speed became restricted. Took to kia dealership and said kia agreed to replace engine under warranty. 2 months later ive gotten no info from kia as to when to expect a new engine. It was 3 weeks then 6 weeks may be as long s 4 months.

My car was driving perfectly and then all of a sudden started chugging, driving extremely roughly, and my check engine light came on. I thought it might have to do with the recall on engines like mine so I took it to a kia dealership to have it checked out and explained my concern and the the recall in question had been cleared because it hadn't done anything at the time but now I was concerned that was the issue. They ran my check engine light and told me it was the ignition coils and the fuel injector and that it would cost me about $800 but they wouldn't acknowledge my questions about the recall or show me what the codes were. I took it to autozone to have them run the codes so I could see what they were and it was just the ignition coil and cylinder 4 misfiring and not the fuel injector at all. I got the ignition coils and spark plugs replaced but it's still running rough and cylinder 4 is still misfiring and my car even stalled out on the interstate while I was in the left lane. My car is only 6 years old with 151,000 miles on it. It drove like a dream when I got it and I've taken care of it really well ever since. I'm afraid this issue is out of my hand and has something to do with the current recall or possibly another issue that needs to be recalled.
This vehicle was purchased Dec 1 2018 and the knock sensor failed on the trip back from the dealership. It was replaced and now April 22nd 2019 less than 5 months later it has failed again and left me stranded. The check engine light is flashing and the vehicle is stuck in limp mode. This model is known for this problem and should be added to the recall list.
In March of 2019, the engine in this car blew without being out of oil or having any warning lights on (no check engine light). It initially started with what sounded like maybe a fan issue or something- while driving. At that time we confirmed that there was oil in the car and without a light or system indication, we had no reason to suspect something major and made plans to have it checked out. But the noise very quickly progressed and my mechanic brother confirmed that the noise sounded like the motor was blown (low end rod knock). I contacted the local kia dealership (wallingford/meriden, CT) for a service appointment and was told flat out that because I had purchased the vehicle from my father in law- the warrantee would not transfer and we would be responsible for the cost. This was not possible and we had no choice but to park it until hopefully one day kia would recall it or I could get my hands on a descent engine that may not have the exact same issue. In the interim I placed another call and was told that the information I first received about the warrantee not transferring was incorrect but now it had expired. My father in law would roll in his grave knowing how much he advocated for kia and their warrantees and that this car sits unusable.
My 2013 kia Sorento has been frequently decreasing power while driving. Rpms would drop to 0. In some cases the vehicle would continue to remain at the current speed, but with the rpm at 0. In other cases, the vehicle would rapidly decelerate and stall out forcing me to pull over and restart the vehicle. This has occurred approximately 20-30 times over the last few months and has occurred while in traffic, putting myself and my daughter at great risk for an accident. There were 2 times it was very difficult to restart the vehicle. In some of these cases the check engine light has turned on but not in all instances. It is beginning to become a more frequent occurrence and I am afraid it is going to happen at a time there is a vehicle too close to me or I am not going to be able to safely pull over. When I had a mechanic run the engine code he said it came up a crank sensor issue. He informed me my make and model vehicle has received numerous complaints about this decrease in speed issue and that it could also lead to the vehicles catching fire. This is a great concern for me as I have a 5 year old child, am an emt and also a child passenger safety technician. When I contacted a local kia dealer, they pretty much stated there was nothing they could do since there is not a recall at this time. I am very concerned as kias are typically family vehicles and countless lives of children and their parents are being put at risk. Hopefully further investigations will be conducted and appropriate recalls issued so that there does not need to be any further deaths or injuries. Please keep me posted as to the outcome of this and other related complaints.
I stepped on the accelerator to increase speed from 45 mph to 55 mph, but the car lost power & the "check engine light began flashing rapidly. I was nearly rear-ended, & went toward the curb, but did not want to wait for towing there (isolated: rt. 183 schuylkill ounty, PA) & felt some power engagement, so put on "emergency flashers" & called dealer who'd just had this car in < 3 wks previously, for the 3rd time for my objection that " this car w/ < 15 k miles on it hesitates when I step on the gas", starting 6 wks p new car purchase & Jan. 26,2019 for a "product improvement" recall. I needed to drive 10 miles to my dr's appt & my car did lurch thru traffic light, but did not turn itself off. When the "codes" were read p flatbed towing to the dealer (savage kia), I was told that kia hdqtrs would decide b/c savage didn't recognize the codes. Sat. Am, 48 h p my car's self-destruction they called wanting to send my engine to kia hdqtrs & place a rebuilt engine (of indeterminate milage prior to its retooling) in my car w/< 15 k mi. Of wear on it. I noticed the ongoing class action suit wrt kia's design flaw in Sorento engines & see no value in driving that model engine that the boobs kept insisting was perfectly fine til the recall notice came, then whatever they did was ineffective & the engine's rubble less than 250 miles later. I've forbidden the dealership to take apart my car or alter the codes while I learn more from independent sources. I want a full, not a partial refund of all money, as kia holds the lien on this defective, inadequately serviced item & they can study it, but not @ my expense. . .
Sitting at a red light I noticed my check engine light flashing. The light turned green and when I pushed the accelerator I had zero power. It was able to go up to 20mph and I was able to make it up the hill and into my work parking lot. I called kia and luckily was able to get towed to the dealership. They stated its probably an engine misfire, we'll have you up and running in no time. The next day, I called the dealership (bc I didn't hear from them) and was told "were ordering you a new engine". 6 days later I called again because I still haven't a reason as to why. . I was informed the update they did on my computer did something to my engine and thats their only solution. Mind you the vehicle only has 41k miles on it! apparently that happens alot to kia's but I wish I knew before I purchased this vehicle! total piece of junk and I don't feel safe. Side note: my transmission has always shiftted very hard in the morning (even after a 20min warmup) their looking into that now.
My car went into limp mode after check engine light came on for transmission and electrical system failure in solenoid a of transmission. Car struggled to shift between gears and would would jerk me driving. Driving yesterday and pedal went straight to the floor causing total motor loss and hole in motor.

I keep getting error codes and check engine ligh I check with obd2 meter 3 different codes come up 3 times each. P0638, p2106, and and p2110. I clear them check engine light goes off and then randomly it happens again I'm not sure if this is a safety issue but I just want to be sure. It happens when I'm either going 25 or 55 and accelerating.
Engine abruptly shut off while driving at 50 mph down the exit ramp of a highway. No engine knocks, sounds or abnormal signs of concern. Luckily, the car was able to roll to a stop on the shoulder of the road to call roadside assistance. Car was towed to dealership who diagnosed engine failure due to a problem with the "bearings" . Entire engine needs to be replaced. We are the original owners of this vehicle and have had all of its servicing done at the dealership including the last one 2 months ago. We have never had a check engine light come on or had any notification from the maintenance checks that this may be a problem. We have found out that kia Sorentos of 2013 with a 2. 4l gdi engine has been recalled for this same reason and I strongly suspect that our motor has the same defect. After a superficial online search, there are numerous complaints of sudden engine failure in this model of kia Sorentos that were not covered under this recall (sc147. I believe an investigation should be in order. Should we have not taken this exit, this most certainly could have caused a high speed mva involving multiple vehicles if the car abruptly shuts off while cruising at a highway speed. Note: approx. Mileage of the car is 107,000.
Was driving on a busy intersection on 1/15/2019 around 2:30 pm and doing around 40mph the check engine light began flashing. A short while after the cel began flashing the car rpms slowed down even though the car was in motion & I was pressing on the accelerator. The car behind me began honking their horn because my vehicle was slowing down. I tried to find a street where I could safely pull over. After dodging cars while the car was in a slow rpms motion I pulled over to a side street & shifted the gear to park but kept the engine running and tried to calm down. I decided to head home, after shifting from park to drive I stepped on the accelerator and the car was in motion but the rpms only reached 10mph even though I kept my foot on the gas. And slowly but surely the speed increased. The slow acceleration from a park and stop mode the car was slow to accelerate. The state of my component part or system is unknown. Googled recalls for 2015 Sorento's and found several websites pertaining to a recall on kia Sorento's. However after contacting kia (1-800-333-4542) the representative informed me that my 2015 kia Sorento was not part of the recall. Since my car was only around 50,000 miles she informed me that it's still under warranty. I contacted my local kia dealership (1450 e camelback rd, phoenix, az 85014 602-388-1276) about the issue I am having. The service advisor erik informed me that he would have my car towed to their dealership and check out the issue. Stated "it" "should be" covered since I was under 60,000. I'm waiting on what the mechanic finds and if the issue will be covered.
I was driving my car going 50mph or 60mph and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car slowed down while I had my feet on the gas pedal all the way down to the floor causing me to have to pull over immediately when in traffic. I cut the car off and let it sit for a couple of mins and when I cut it back on it sounded like the car was idiled to high. I tried to driver again only for the car to jerk and seemed like it was driving itself only to slow down again to only 10mph with my feet all the way down on the gas pedal.
Over the last 6 months my kia has started to act like it is going to die or stall while driving and/or idling. This has happened at various different speeds. I took my kia into the service department and explained what was happening. They ran some diagnostic tests and stated that they could not replicate it. The check engine light never comes on. In December, I received a recall notice for the engine control unit. This recall was completed and now less than a month later the shaking like my car is going to stall is still happening intermittently. Recently, the steering wheel started sticking. While I am driving the steering wheel makes me over adjust to keep the car going straight. You can feel the sticking as you have to constantly adjust the steering wheel right or left. This happens every time I am driving, whether on the highway or side streets.
When it's humid outside or there is any kind of moisture in the air my check engine light comes on along with the esc light. The car seems bogged down and wont go above 2000 rpm. It takes 15 minutes just to get the car up to 50 mph and thats with the gas peddle pushed all the way to the floor. It does it mainly when I'm driving on the highway which is scary. It looses most of its acceleration power.

I bought a 2015 kia Sorento with 85000 miles on it for my stepdaughters first car owned it for 6 months it was great the other day she was driving 50 mph on country road and the engine quite and siezed up no noise no warning no check engine light dealer says it needs a new engine called kia absolutely got no we're even though there a ton off complaints about kia engines doing the same thing they say there's no recalls on this particular vehicle.
My spouse was driving her kia Sorento home from work when the vehicle would not pick up speed. The lane changed from 2 lanes to 1 lane so she had to merge over doing 70mph. With the lack of being able to accelerate, she had to brake to avoid an accident. When she did merge, the check engine light came on and the vehicle just shut off. She then was able to pull off the road. She turned the car off and tried to restart it and was unsuccessful. She then called our insurance companies roadside service. The tow truck driver tried to see if he was able to get it stated but could not. The vehicle was then towed to the kia dealer in killeen, texas. The service advisor called us back and informed us that the entire engine had to be replaced. My wife could have been seriously injured or even killed. There was apparently a recall on these vehicles that we were not notified by either mail or a phone call. This is completely un-acceptable.
Last week while on the highway going about 65mph my check engine light came on(stayed on) and my vehicle started knocking. I went home parked it for the night and called the dealership the next morning. The dealership said as long as the check engine light was solid (not flashing) it was safe to drive the 30 min to bring it to them. They called today to state the engine is blown due to metal shavings in the engine and oil. I am lucky the car even made it there, since the engine has "blown" since they have had it!!!! I have kept up having oil changed regularly, and I do have receipts. They are saying my I need a whole new engine and it is not covered and my warranty is expired even though I received a letter in the past stating the warranty was extended to 120,000 miles!! they say they have no record of the letter, so it must be fake!!. I dont know what I'm going to do I used all of my savings to buy this car for $22,000 just three years ago!!!!! it currently only has 79k miles on it!!.
I started experiencing stalling issues in April 2018, had the dealership that I bought it from inspect it and I was advised to change the crankshaft position sensor and the battery. I changed both and the the motor ran fine for around 3000 miles. I was drivong down the highway at 60mph when the vehicle shut off with no warning, oil lamp or check engine light. The vehicle wouldn't start up after stalling. Towed the vehicle to my brother's house, tried to start it a few days later, when it cranked over there was a horrible screaching sound followed by knocking from the engine. Towed the car into kia in waco and they have denied repairs because my vehicle isn't covered under the recall. I recieved the run around regarding what exactly is broken. The only answer I get is "we know its got broken parts onsode, but we don't know what. " I believe that they didn't even perform an inspection, just denied based on not recalled under VIN. Kia sent me an interim notice as well as another notice stating my engine will be covered for 10 years and 120k miles die to the engine bearing clearance issue. Kia doesn't have a record of notified vehicle owners amd is telling me I'm lying by saying I recieved any notification because they have no record. Its already been proven that kia has hid the defective internal engine parts. I was quoted $7300 for an engine without labor.
Our 2012 kia Sorento started having the exact same problems as all the other motors that were on recall for bad bearings. I never got a check engine light. It would die randomly on me. Once died on me on the freeway with me and my 5yr old. Luckily I was not around anyone or it could have been very tragic. I loved that car, and now it's just sitting at kia dealership collecting dust and not being used with less than 100k miles on it. This is not a owner issue. This is a manufacturing defect. Even the dealership said it was bad bearing and it should be covered. Yet we can't get this issue fixed because they don't want to help us, and yet have all these bad reviews on not wanting to help out their customers. So it's just sitting at the dealership rotting away because we refuse to pay for a manufacturing defect.
