1 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/19/2021

I'm highly disappointed in my 2016 kia Sorento ex awd. Just yesterday I brought the vehicle in for an oil change tire rotation and coolant flush. One of the service advisors had let me know that the vehicle is leaking oil and I'm going to need a new oil pressure switch and a new drain pan since that's where it's leaking from. For a price of $425. Upon looking and scouring the internet it looks like this is a very common problem with kia and just the step before of engine failure. I don't know why NHTSA doesn't make this a standard recall considering the sportage has the same recall available. I mean it's a known fact kia engines are lacking in oil ,catching on fire and failing. I bought this car as a certified pre-owned to be rest assure with my uneasiness about buying a used car and I've been at the dealership getting repairs left and right. I'm not even at 60,000 miles and that's how ludicrous this is! granted the first person who owned the vehicle or at least it rather put 19,000 miles on it. It's already been in for service with the transmission I needed a torque converter and that was covered under the warranty thank goodness and now this oil leak from the oil pressure switch and oil pan needs to also be covered under warranty but I'm out of luck. There's thousands of complaints online about the same darn problem.

2 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/12/2020

Brought in for oil change, tech found a coolant leak, replace thermostat housing unit for $700, left dealer and next day coolant was pouring out as I drove. Retuned to shop and kia said there was a manufacturing issue with some heads and at the present time they are in the machine shop. Still don't know if it is covered by warranty on a car with only 57000 miles.

3 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/20/2020

Engine seized up causing engine failure. Vehicle made noise and stopped completely. Unable to start. Personal research online-possible recall sc147. Kia Sorento built 4/2011-2/10/2014, NHTSA camp. Id 17v224000. Kia consumer aff. States the veh doesn't fall under the recall. Veh. Broke down on 3/20/2020 in lynchburg,va. Same symptoms as described in the recall. Dealership in lynchburg determined the motor "seized" up causing total engine failure. Kia has determined to pay for parts only, not labor. Kia consumer affairs stated the warranty does not cover due to being 2nd owner. The veh. Has less than 43k miles. No warning lights illuminated until time of engine failure. Veh. Has been serviced regularly prior to date of engine failure. It is unknown if the dealership has performed testing via scan tools equipped for sc147 inspection. Research that I've done shows the noise test cannot be done because the engine seized and cannot be started. When the veh engine failed, I checked the oil and coolant. All fluids were at level and clean. No leaks appeared under veh. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

4 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/19/2019

Vehicle has 85,940 miles on it and has a blown head gasket. I bought it in April and it has run fine. Took the vehicle in for a routine oil change and the technician noticed coolant leaking from the engine block by the connection point with the head gasket cover on the driver's side of the engine. This is not expected from a ~4 year old vehicle with < 100,000 miles that's only driven about 10 miles a day m-f on roads with speed limits below 45 and very little traffic.

5 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Purchased a used 2014 kia Sorento showing 106k miles. Test drive with the salesman for about 6 miles various types of roads. Very impressed with the car, performed well. Purchased it Saturday afternoon just prior to the used car dealer closing. After paperwork and plates done, drove it toward home. About 4 miles from dealer (interstate highway) saw the temperature guage climbing into the hot area. No other errors or lights came on. Let off on gas to pull over and temp guage came down to normal. Continued with caution thinking this was a faulty guage or sender unit. Limped home slowly. Noticed going up hills and pulling hard temp would climb. Letting off gas temp would drop to normal. Long story short got the car to a very reputable and experienced garage. Engine couldn't be repaired economically. Dealer did offer money back. As much as I didn't want to, wound up having to install another used low milage v6 engine. During the month in the garage I had done much research & digging & talking often with the very experienced mechanic in charge of the job. Coolant was low and all but two of the head bolts were more than finger tight !! how this engine was running was beyond me, it was! during all this research I read of many head gasket problems and leaks had been reported. The thing that was really concerning was the number of engine fires that had no real cause reported afterwards. My concern is if I had continued driving this car hard, could a leaky head gasket cause a fire under the hood? I learned from the mechanic all these head bolts stripped the threads from the block. I also learned there is another 1. 5 inches of unused threads inside the block! my suspicion is kia skimped on the length of all these head bolts to save a buck putting the reliability and safety at the customers risk. Is my safety at risk? where is my recall for this car engine? 12/09/2019 dd.

6 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

Engine randomly started overheating while driving, even though car was regularly maintenanced/serviced. Took to dealership was told when they tore down the engine, found rear cylinder leaking coolant; threads to engine came out with bolt itself causing irreversible damage. We were told since not original owners no warranty. This went through kia complaints and then to their regional parts manager who denied any good will. We purchased the vehicle in 2016, it is a 2016 . It had less than 30k miles on it and we produced regular maintenance records on the vehicle. We have been trying to get some resolution with kia for over a year.

7 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/28/2013

I was driving to work on a 2 lane road with people behind me. My car made a sound like a rock rolling around in an empty water bottle then all the dashboard lights turned on and the engine died. Luckily I was able to pull over with a great deal of strength applied to the steering wheel. I called kia immediately and they had it towed to a dealership within the hour. The dealership is now claiming I had a coolant leak which caused the car to overheat but I had no indications prior that the car was overheating. They said this is probably not covered by warranty since its a leak and it should have been discovered earlier.

9 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

Car was serviced by dealer for four years. I purchase the car, have the coolant water flow tank pressured tested and three weeks later leak or crack in the coolant water flow tank. All liquids leaked out, engine over heated and blew. Had to replace the engine. Over 6000. To repair.

10 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/08/2008

2004 kia Sorento leak in a/c coolant bottle. My car was in for a pressure test three weeks before this and it past just fine without any leaks or cracks. On the freeway, over heats, pull over, all the fluid leaks out, engine is dead and must be replaced. Just hit 61,000 miles. Kia does not offer 100,000 mile coverage unless you are the original owner. I am the second owner and have had the car three months. $5000. Later I have my car back. Kia will not honor to do the work because they say it was a long term leak. Well, before I purchased the car, kia did all the maintenance on this car for four years. . . . . If it was a long term leak, shouldn't they have caught it? they say no. I also purchased an extended 80,000/3 year warranty when I purchased the car, they also declined my car coverage because they cover nothing due to any overheating. This is really just a complete joke. I did nothing wrong. Kia serviced the car for four years. I had the car in three weeks before it blew up and it was tested and filled with fluids. Why does this not make any sense???.

11 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

She called the kia corporate office and was informed that her vehicle was out of warranty and the repair would not be free. The current and failure mileages were 60,537.
