1 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2018 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/06/2024

I had an engine failure in my kia. On [xxx], I was driving on [xxx] in maine, and the "malfunction" light lit up, and I lost power in the vehicle. I was able to make it to the side of the highway and call a tow truck. Losing power on a busy interstate put myself and my partner at risk, as well as having to wait on the side of the interstate for a tow truck. I had the vehicle towed to a mechanic who said the engine needed to be replaced because a cylinder lost compression. Kia had me tow it to a kia dealership, and they verified that the engine needed to be replaced. The matter is still open. My case with kia is [xxx]. Kia has been completely unresponsive in the matter. They have told me repeatedly that the matter is being looked into by their tech team, but they have never reached out to the kia dealership they told me to send it to. It could be related to a rod bearing issue, but they are not willing to follow up enough to even determine whether or not that is the issue. Prior to the engine failure, I had issues with oil loss. I replaced the pcv valve, but that did not turn out to be the problem. I had it inspected a few weeks before the engine failure, and they noted that the oil levels were low. I was not seeing warning lights for low oil, but I was maintaining oil levels while I waited for an appointment to look into that issue. I believe kia knows this is an ongoing issue with their vehicles, and they are actively obstructing any inquiries as to why this engine problem persists. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

Engine is using excessive oil - a quart of oil every 1000 mi. I have taken it to my nearest kia dealer who on the first visit a month ago told me I needed a tune-up (new plugs, pcv valve, etc. I just had a tune-up at my regular svc rpr shop in may. Kia dlr told me they did not use oem arts, so I ok'ed the tune-up and suggested work to see if it would help. Per their advice, I brought it bsck this wk after putting on 1000 mi. And it was again a qt. Low. They had a tech line case open with kia factory on firt visit and worked with them again this wk. Kia's answer is that they will not replace the engine until ti throws a rod. I am greatly concerned for my wife and I safety. We live in a high traffice city (atlanta) and when the engine blows, we could be injured badly or even killed. This is not an acceptable solution. Note: engine recall was done last year or so, so I am told the engine will be replaced for life any time it fails still unacceptable due to the threat of injury or death.

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

6/2015 vehicle began to run rough. Local mechanic discovered crankcase bolt had snapped and the pulley and balancer mounting screw had sheared off. Shop confirmed a kia kit to fix the issue ($1200. 00 + 1007. 00 for timing gear kit and water pump) 1/15/2016 while driving into the roundabout on portal way (15 mph) there was a loud clunk from the engine compartment immediately followed by the loss of power steering, asb braking and voltmeter warning lights. The vehicle was towed to mechanics shop where it was confirmed that the new crankcase bolt has broken again damaging the new pulley and balancer also. The shop contacted the local kia dealer and they confirmed that the 2003-2006 v6 3. 5l misabishi engines used have a long record of this problem with no permanent fix. The following information was emailed to me from the owner of axton automotive, ferndale wa an ase certified shop, "on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, axton automotive <axtonautomotive@gmail. Com> wrote: hello, on you kia. It doesn't look like any fix is permanent on the vehicle. Even their own recall/fix is failing. I recommend filing a complaint at the national highway traffic safety administration. . I will come up with some options tomorrow and get back to you. But whatever we decide I recommend not using this vehicle. Jim" the vehicle is disabled at this time with no response from kia.

7 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/08/2007

My vehicle started acting up whenever I turned on the air condition I would lose power. The engine light would come on and the steering wheel would get real tight and I would not be able to turn it. The vehicle is currently at a kia dealership where it has been for 3 weeks now waiting on parts. Not to mention I called kia roadside assistance for 4 days straight before a tow company finally came and towed my car to the dealership. I was told I needed a crank shaft, timing belt, and a engine which is all covered under warranty, but they have not received any of the parts needed for my car. I am still without a vehicle kia says they do not do loaner cars or rentals so I am just frustrated with the whole ordeal.

8 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/26/2007

I would like to make a complaint about my 03 kia Sorento. I bought this car used in 2004. My husband called kia to check to see if the warranties where transferable and the representative told him they were. Since I have had this vehicle, I have had to replace the rear tail/brake lights 3 times, I have had to replace the coolant bottle, my rotors were vibrating when I braked so I had them surfaced and now they vibrate again. My blower fan has gone out and now my crankshaft bolt has broke last week. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. I didn't buy an extended warrant because I was under the impression that the engine, transmission ect was covered up to 100,000 or 5 years, which I was informed that it was only for the original owner. At first, I was just thinking that it was just my bad luck, until I started researching it on the internet and discovered that many people seem to be having the same problems as I am and that is only the those of use who actual post it on the internet, I am sure that there are probably many more that are not reported. At this time, I don't even know how much this is going to cost me at first the deal told me $765. 00, then they said may be $3700. 00. I think it is ridicules that so many people are having a problem with the crankshaft bolt braking off and ruining the motor of a vehicle that is 3 years old and kia has not done anything about it. I also have seen that many people have had there coolant bottle leaking, again like mine, but they have blown their engines. Again why is it that kia is not recall this vehicles for these problems. If my crankshaft bolt had broke while I was driving down the interstate, it chills me to think of what might have happened. Someone really needs to help all of us kia owners who are all having the same problem.

: the contact stated while traveling 35 mph, without warning there was a loss of power. The vehicle was pulled over and then towed to the dealership, who replaced the crankshaft. The problem recurred five weeks later and the vehicle was towed a second time. The dealership put lock spray in to keep the pin on the crankshaft from falling out.
