Fitting that connects hose to radiator snapped in half causing coolant to leak and engine to overheat. Informed by repair shop that this can be temporarily fixed by installing a brass fitting using epoxy but that the only permanent repair is to replace the entire radiator.

My 2005 Sorento, SUV, begun to shake on the front and later stopped. I had a mechanic check it for the main belt to be off and he said it was more major. The bolt had broken off in the motor. Some cars from kia had already had that complaint. I called the kia headquarters and they said yes, but not a recall for that model doing it. Well it is and I am still paying for something I can't use. ????.

While driving in the fast lane on the interstate, my 2004 kia Sorento overheated and the engine seized, we were able to coast off the freeway at an exit and pull over safely. Upon inspection, we noticed the coolant reservoir was cracked on the bottom, allowing all the coolant to leak out. After a little research, I found the TSB about this old model coolant reservoir cracking and a new model was out. This damaged tank caused my engine to overheat, seize on the freeway and now has blown the head gasket and warped the aluminum heads. Why wasn't I told that these tanks were a problem, I had my oil changed at the dealership 3 weeks prior and 3 months before that, nobody said anything.
The issue is with 2 kias I bought within the last year. Both automobiles had air conditioner compressors that failed within months of me purchasing it. The first kia I bought was a sedona 2003. The second is a Sorento 2006 I bought November 2009.
I purchased my 03 kia Sorento in 2004 and have had many issues since then. I have had to replace lights from the front to the back numerous times. I've been driving down our remote country road at night and had my headlights go out. My coolant tank cracked and left me stranded on another country road in the snow last year. I later found out it was recalled for that particular defect; after I had it replaced. The lighting issue is my biggest concern right now because of where I live (remote country roads, deer at night, etc) I have to have properly functioning headlights at all times. Now, I am having problems concerning the bearings on it. It makes a horrible screeching noise that is now; almost continuous. It doesn't matter the temperature outside, driving conditions, etc. It has become harder to steer and the power steering fluid is fine. I don't feel safe in this vehicle anymore, and I cannot afford to just go out and buy something new. I just ask that if fault lies with kia; then they should fix it at their expense. . . . Not mine! I have invested way too much time, money and patience thus far and feel it's kia's responsibility to make sure they create a vehicle that functions properly. And when they don't. . . Fix it!!! as for the questions below; was there a fire?. . . Not yet!!! was there property damage?. . . . There probably will be when my bearings go out and the wheels fall off! where there any deaths or injuries?. . . . Dear lord, I pray every time I get in my truck that nothing like that ever happens to me or my son. . . . But; with an unreliable vehicle that has constant electrical and mechanical problem; then who knows. . . .

No problems before hand to indicate there was a problem until complete power loss with engine failure, within a 50 second span of driving on interstate. This was the only failure , as stated, with this car. Nothing could be done. The coolant reservoir tank was faulty on this model . Informed of this from the dealership and local corporate rep. , after the fact. I was never informed of this faulty part at any time. Even when car serviced. This was a 3 year known faulty part that manufacturer knew about. Car was new when bought. Had a engine warranty of 10/100,000. I only had 5 years and 77,000 on car. Car corporation refuses to honor or deal with replacing engine. Was told the first week twice it would be covered. Local corp. Rep. Then said no to warranty coverage. I have since pay for a new engine out of my own pocket.
My 2004 kia Sorento was in the dealership for diagnostics due to engine misfire. During which phil smith kia technicians gave my cooling system green check that all was ok. Approximately ten miles afterwards the engine suffered failure, headgasket blown. Vehicle was towed to the dealership. Was advised by service manager when they started the vehicle the engine seized. Dealership is refusing to cover under warranty, claiming that the car overheated causing the failure. The even occurred within 5 minutes of the car starting and it never overheated. I have contacted kia consumer and received no assistance. Despite having documentation to support the cooling system was fine, they will not accept the claim. I am forced to pay for charges relating to the engine tear down, approximately $400 before they will release my vehicle back to me. I will then have to take it elsewhere to be repaired.
While returning from our vacation our kia started making at lot of noises in around the airconditioning heating system, the air coming from the vents didn't seem to be warm enough to defog the windows, then the next day when it was warmer it started making a rattling fan noise when the air was turned on. When the system was turned off it didn't make the noise anymore. We arrived home unloaded our gear and then went out again a while later. The fan noise started again and the warning light came on and the power steering didn't work, when the air was turned off everything resumed to normal. We arrived at our friend house and went inside. After several minutes we smelled something burning and went outside to see smoke coming from the engine area. We lifted the hood to investigate where we saw flames coming from the engine. We immediately extinguished the fire and had the vehicle towed the next day. Come to find out several days later that our vehicle was too badly burned to repair the engine. The engine had to be replaced due to a timing belt failure. If this is an ongoing problem it should be mandatory that they should be replaced by whomever owns the vehicle or the dealer if the car has been traded because the next owner would not know any of the previous repairs such was our case. As it stands now there are some interior electrical problems such as the lights an the electronic seats we are hoping for some kind of recall for this problem. There was also a problem with the fan running on after the car was turned off. This was still happening even after the engine had been replaced and we were told earlier that it was a sensor problem which still happened even after the sensor was replaced.
Cooling system failure cause blown engine without any warning.
Overheating , the overflow and filler tank cracking open on the bottom out of sight . Caused me to replace the waterpump and thermostat before being able to find the problem and left myself and family stranded. Took to dealer who found the crack after checking and stated they nationwide they had to replace over a half a million tanks on these vehicles at $200. Plus per job not to mention the cost of created problems from the overheat they are talking about multi millions of loss to consumers .
While driving the Sorento to his girlfriends house my son noticed that the temperature gage was higher than normal. He wasn't to far from town so he called and I told him to get some 50/50 antifreeze to put in the reservoir. He did this and had no more problems until the next day on his way home. His girl lives about 20 miles from us. About halfway home the vehicle just died. Had the vehicle towed to kia dealership and was told that the engine needed to be replaced. No warning lights or gauges identified anything wrong. Was also told that engine was driven while excessively hot. Not because a warning light or gauge told us so! if all of this cost to us is due to a small piece of plastic someone needs to take kia out to the woodshed. "the contact stated that the coolant tank was cracked and all of the coolant leaks out the vehicle. When this occurs, the temperature sensor stops working. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle overheats without the contacts knowledge; therefore, he continues to drive until it fails. The dealer did not want to repair the vehicle because of the engine failure and no recording of prior maintenance. The failure mileage was 67,000.

I bought my 2004 Sorento new. In may 2008 and at 64,000 miles this year the water pump started leaking. I took it into the local kia dealership and they said it was under a recall and replaced it. They also recommended a timing belt change at that time and I did that too. After I left the dealership and drove into my garage, water was pouring out from underneath the passengers side tire, where the reserve tank was. I turned around took it right back and showed them. They said it wasn't anything they did to bust it, it must of been that way already. I informed them that I know it wasn't that way because I had been pouring tons of water in it until I could get my car in for that appointment since the water pump was leaking and the leaking before was coming from the center of the car, not by the tire. I also informed them, that I knew they busted because they had to put pressure on the water pump line to test it and therefore it was there fought. They still said even though they didn't do it they would go ahead and replace it for free. Why do they not want to own up to it to begin with? if I had not made a scene in front of their other customers they where going to make me pay for it. I have also had the wiper park area burn out. Smoke started coming from my windshield on he inside and now the heated wiper park area is not working. It will need a whole new windshield.
Same thing engine light comes on I pull over tank cracked , engine ruined, kia told me they don't care and won't help. Engine failure due to manufacturer defect car had 110 k on it, but they knew about the tank and the engine concerns, kia should not be allowed to get away with this, $4,000 later I have a car that should never had broken.
