The contact owned a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while approaching a stop light, she lost consciousness. The contact crashed into another vehicle as the air bags deployed and the front driver side tire had separated from the vehicle. The other driver sustained injuries; however, their whereabouts are unknown. An employee from a nearby dental office removed the contact from the vehicle and placed her inside the office. When the contact regained consciousness, the dental employee informed her that a strong unknown odor had emitted from the vehicle which prompted her to remove the contact from the vehicle. The contact believed that this odor caused her to lose consciousness which resulted in the accident. The contact sustained an injured left eye and bruises to her forehead. The contact later sought medical attention at a hospital where she was treated for her injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed an independent tow yard. The dealer and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure but neither have offered any assistance. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 3,200. The VIN was not available.

The contact owns a 2016 kia Sorento sx. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle inadvertently became overheated and he saw smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who informed the contact that the head gasket or the engine would need to be replaced. Then, the vehicle was towed to a second dealer(matthews kia of cartersville 595 e main st, cartersville, GA 30120) who diagnosed that the engine bolts were backing out of the engine block allowing the exhaust to be released into the cooling system. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist as the vehicle was out warranty. A case was opened and the contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

A month ago while driving home from a day of shopping and the drivers side air bag light came on. I checked the wires underneath the drivers seat to make sure everything was still connected the light stays on. The engine light came on just yesterday 12. 5. 2020. Stays on will not shut off. I checked the gas cap to make sure it was tight then went to auto zone so they could use their dtc. (the clerk put an estimate of miles on my paperwork as he did not go outside to get actual milage. )the code was obd2. I was due for a oil change and transmission flush. I got those repaired but still have issues with the light. The paperwork states error code read p0014 exhaust camshaft position timing over advanced bank 1 indicates that the bank 1 exhaust camshaft position timing was advanced beyond limits for a predetermined. Of time. The only thing I noticed was that I didn't even have the heat on and there was nice amount of heat coming through the vents but the heat dial was on the off position. The instrument panel.

Our 2012 kia Sorento experienced a major bearing failure that knocked a hole in the cast block allowing the oil to dump out over the cars exhaust. The car had been service routinely utilizing full synthetic at 6000 mile intervals. The oil level and cooling systems were all full and there were no warning lights prior to the failure. The car had 103000 miles and had just been serviced. Contacted kia and explained the situation and received no explanation as to what may have caused this significant failure. The premature bearing failure issue identified on other models and involved in the significant recall definitely appears to have occurred on our car as well.

The car was stationary with the engine running, waiting for about 2 minutes when I smelled a strong exhaust smell. I began to drive, and within 30 seconds smoke started coming from under the hood. I pulled over and stopped the engine just as flames came out from the right side of the hood. In less than 5 minutes the engine was engulfed in flames. The fire fighters arrived a minute later and took quite some time to extinguish the fire. The entire engine and front of the car was burned completely. The car is totaled. We have filed a claim with our insurance and reported it to kia.
A cam sensor melted, there were pieces of plastic on the spark plugs, and all mechanics we talked to have never seen anything like this. They initially thought that it was the exhaust vvt solenoids, but as they inspected further they realized something else was majorly wrong. We were on a road trip when this happened and have been stranded for 4 days because they haven't been able to fix the problem. The only solution they found is to replace the engine. The symptoms seem to be consistent with the NHTSA campaigns #11v258000 and #17v224000 after discussing with the mechanics we've worked with. See attached image of melted cam sensor.
While driving on the expressway (approx. 70mph) the car began to knock from engine loud. Also there was a lot noise I can't begin to explain. Immediately it smelled like there was a burning smell. There was black smoke coming from the exhaust. There was no issues or indications of any problems before this happened. Luckily I was coming up on a rest stop and I got it into the lot and called a tow truck. Of course I start making calls as soon as possible. Pull up complaints about the car. But I have one of the sool VIN #s not covered under the recall for the same exact thing that thousands are getting help with. Still have to pay for the car. Can't drive the car. 2 months now of being told there's nothing I can do.

Approximately 6 weeks ago my vehicle began acting funny, like it wanted to die out while driving and would cut out at red lights. When the engine light came on I took it to a kia dealer and was told the issue was exhaust cam shaft and it was broken off /melted in cylinder head. To replace head had to be removed. When head was removed cracks were found on coils 3 & 4 in housings and noticed metal shavings in motor. Yesterday I dropped at dealer who now says vehicle may have a blown head gasket or worse. Made kia aware with 1st issue and they covered 1/2 of repair cost. Still have an open case # with them and reported the new issue under the same case number. Broken and melted pieces in cylinder head & metal shavings tells me engine issues that I am not responsible for. Could this be relatd to same issue as fires in engines on 2011 Sorentos?.
I have 2 concerns, 1 mainly I have a newer 2015 kia sorrento with under 25k miles, owned it about 2 years ever since I owned it there has been a ticking in the engine and white smoke blowing out the exhaust. Which should not be thecase with a newer car, after taking it to the dealership they said nothing was wrong. Additionally when I turn on the air conditioner it smells like vinegar or dirty socks an aweful smell, once again the dealership stated nothing wrong with the car. It sounds like kia is covering up old deficiencies with their engines as it said engines manufactured into late 2014 were recalled how is the 2015 kia, which was manufactured in 2014 not on the recall list? additionally there have been many many other people listing the engine seizing up. My wife drives this car with my small children im writing this retractively in case something happen. Additionally we get regular oil changes done. I think this engine model should be recalled. As a newer engine should definitely not be blowing white smoke out of the exhaust nor ticking like the components are displaced.

Been having problems with the car for over 8 months. Eats oil like no ones business. White smoke coming out of the exhaust. Every time I run the on board diagnostic, it has always said no problems exist. Today, my husband comes home from an appointment, and tells me the vehicle was running really rough, shaking the entire car. We check the oil everyday and we've tried going to two different kia dealers for our oil changes, and they never tell us anything is wrong. Now, this comes up today. I do the on-board diagnostic and it reads. "possible condition(s) with your engine control system has been detected. " schedule a full system check with your nearby kia dealer soon. The car shakes horribly. Up until this time, no shaking, some white exhaust when starting the car, but no major problems. No engine lights on, until today. We have had regular maintenance on the vehicle. It even passed smog testing. So now, after reading similar complaints, I worried, I won't be getting my car fixed.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. When the contact started the engine, thick white smoke emitted from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was oil sludge around the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Driving down the road and all of a sudden I have no power and can not go over 25 mph. How safe is that on the highway, especially as I am driving with my kids!!!?? this has happened twice. The 1st time, it self corrected when I went to take it to the dealer to look at. This time, it has not. The lights constantly go off and on at any moments notice (real safe while driving at night)- and remain off for great lengths of time. I have had to replace the fuse that controls the fan in the engine twice already. I would shut the car off and the fan would not turn off unless I popped the hood and pulled the fuse myself and pocketed it until it was time to drive again. Not to mention major rust issues on the body of the vehicle. The cosmetic I can deal with, the losing power while on the highway I cannot. It is just a matter of time until someone is very seriously injured, or killed. The smell of exhaust comes thorugh the vents, even with normal scheduled maintenance. This car is full of dangers and I am shocked there are not recalls of these issues. In particular, the losing power while driving, and the lights turning on and off for no reason. Try googling any of this and you will be amazed how many people are dealing with the same issues. Unbelievable that these complaints have not been taken into serious consideration.

Crankshaft torque bolt sheared off causing the braking and steering to become stiff resulting in greatly diminished control of the vehicle. The pulley assembly began to squeal resulting in parking the vehicle until it was time to take it to the dealership for service of the concern. Enroute to the dealership the brake and engine light appeared and braking became sluggish and steering appeared to be stiff. Was able to make it to the dealership and I opened the hood seeing that the serpentine belt had come off. The following day the dealership notified me that the crankshaft torque bolt had sheared off and they were calling kia to determine a fix for replacing the bolt or if the engine would need replaced. After some brief research this appears to be a recurring problem for several kia models and model years.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while while being stationary at a traffic light with the air on, the contact detected a burning and exhaust smell coming through the vents. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle was driving normal. The vehicle was taken to baierl kia 11410 perry hwy, wexford, PA 15090 (724) 741-1197 where the contact was informed that carbon was building up in the catalytic converter. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available . The approximately failure mileage was 80,000. Dr.
I was driving along the interstate at aprox. 70 mph. I heard a ticking noise and looked at the dash. No warning lights. I rolled the window up, could not hear the noise any longer and continued down the road. I rolled the window back down, the ticking got louder, all lights on the dash light up, engine stalls, and as I'm moving to the emergency lane, the temp. Gauge moves to the red. The vehicle has 155,000 miles on it so the warranty is up. However, this problem occurred because of the fluid leaking out of the water reservoir. If kia was aware of this problem and did not issue a recall, knowing that this could cause serious engine problems, why are they not responsible for this motor? the repairs are going to cost more than 5000 dollars and that is if I can find a replacement motor from a secondary dealer. I have considered trying to find a used motor but I am now hearing that this particular motor has had a problem with the #6 cylinder wall failing, and I do not want to sink that kind of money into this vehicle without the assurance that I will not have to go through this again in 6 months. Has anyone else heard of this? are there any class action suits against kia? this should not be tolerated. If you spend 28,000 dollars on a vehicle, change the oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles, you should expect more than 155,000 miles out of it. Kia should be held accountable!.
2007 kia Sorento engine blown up. No warning signs had occurred. No check engine light came on. While driving the car lost all power. Upon an inspection the oil had turned to sludge. Oil only had approx. 900 miles. Needed to have new engine installed.

My 22 yr son. Was driving a kia Sorento, at highway speed on 11/27/08 on I-10 w in houston, TX, just east of loop 610. The vehicle was a rental from enterprise rental car and had CA. 4000 miles on the odometer. My son reports hearing a loud boom from the engine compartment and immediately noticed smoke coming from the dashboard vents. He immediately pulled the vehicle over to the median shoulder and exited the vehicle, noticing dark smoke coming from the hood, then flames. He promptly called 911. The operator said she had his vehicle fire on the overhead highway camera. My son is a culinary student and rapidly retrieved his valuable knife roll from the rear seat floorboard, but was unable to get anything else from the vehicle because of the heat and smoke. He says the fd arrived within 5 mins and doused the engine fire. There was extensive fire damage to the front passenger compartment and less so to the rear passenger compartment. My son is Smart, quick and agile. Thus, he suffered no physical injury, but was quite distraught. He will do well. I am an emergency physician with 20 yrs of experience. I have very serious concerns regarding this apparent catastrophic failure that rapidly resulted in an engine and vehicle fire. It is apparent that a definitely adverse outcome, including serious injury and/or death could result if the occupants were elderly or a family with children in proper restraints, booster or infant seats. Additionally, my son reacted rapidly and immediately pulled over. Another tragic scenario could occur if there were a narrow or no shoulder. Thank you for your review and action.

Check engine light keeps coming on. Had intake manifold valve replaced per kia, new spark plugs, core covers and new valves plus heads were sent out. Vehicle has been back and forth to dealer for past month and a half but has been there entirely for the past 2 weeks. Very frustrating as kia will not provide a rental but after some discussion with service at dealer, they have put me in a rental. Dealer has been on phone with kia and still cannot come up with a solution.

Our 2007 kia Sorento, purchased new, and now with 20,000 miles, has, since purchase, had the passenger airbag not on signal go on, almost every time we use it. The dealership said they must see it happen, and cannot replicate it. When we made our way to the dealership, while the signal was lit, they saw it, visually it, and made a note, however, the "computer" did not recognize it as a problem, so they will not correct the "problem". We have been told that if that is lit up and someone is in the seat during an accident, the airbag will not deploy. I am told that kia and their dealerships are aware of this problem, and could replace the seat bottom to fix this problem, yet none of the dealerships we have taken it too, will replace it, unless the main office makes it a recall. Our second complaint that they are not willing to do anything about is the strong odor of antifreeze, which literally makes me sick on my stomach when it happens, which is not all of the time. I am afraid these fumes could be harmful.
1) upon purchase, exhaust smell was strong inside SUV, leading to headaches and queasiness. 2) took it in within weeks (?) 3) a correction was made, part replaced. Since then, the exhaust smell is intermittent, and not as strong. Service does not see further issue.
