On April 9,2021 I was driving home the engine started making a noise and smoking. I pulled over and called a tow. The mechanic told me on Monday 12th the engine needed replacement. I found out about the kia engine recall last week. I never received a letter or heard from kia before. I need to know how to handle this and what steps I can take.

My engine light came on (had that ck. . Repalced the gas cap) then my car begin to make a strange noise. I had it checked out at a ntb and the techician suggested that I take my vechile to the dealership (they were limited to helping). I had an appt at kia of easton columbus ohio on 11/12 or 11/13. I recall my car begining to shake while drivingni was on a main busy street leaving walmart on a scale from 1 to 5 the shaking was a 2. . It became a little worse. . . I called my da and said my car is acting really strange I think we should take it now so we did. . My car was shaking even worse its at a 5 now and then smokoing some I was on a main busy street as my da followed me to drop my car off. The dealerrship was closed. My mom called the next day and said there is a recall on 2013 kia sedrento engines however the only info I know is that the enegine was knockin and internal damage.

I bought my 2016 kia Sorento in 2019 since I purchased it the motor has went out in it which had to be replaced which I had to pay the warranty fee plus other cost not included in the warrenty, I have had to change my back tail light at least once a month because it keeps going out and I don't know why the transmission seems to stall when I try to accelerate it makes a noise that sounds like open air the car jumps slightly sometimes and at times it won't accelerate here recently on 2 occasions the accelerator still accelerated after I removed my foot from the pedal this scared me mainly because my kids were in the car and it seemed like it was accelerating to full capacity after tapping the pedal with my foot multiple times if finally released.

2013 kia sorrento engine making noise like sewing machine. Brought to kia dealer. After 3 hours was told nothing wrong with engine. Try high test gas. Brought car home and the engine blew. We told dealer about the recall again there is nothing wrong with your vehicle. It has a good strong engine. I have contacted the dealership and kia manufacturer. Waiting for callbacks. This happened today 6/5/20.
I was driving my car and all of a sudden it started to reduce in speed, I saw the engine light come on, then as I tried to push the accelerator the cars rpm would no go past 2, so I drove to a auto zone and rhey checked the error, that said they did not know what it was, so as I was driving home the car started making a noise as id there qas metal on metal, I stopped my car and had to call a tow truck to bring home, after doing some research I found out the code was for some bearings.
I own a 2017 kia Sorento with 45,000 miles on it. I have taken my car in several times due to the check engine light coming on and engine noises. We were sent home every time and told our car was good to go. I was driving on the freeway when my car suddenly lost power and went limp, almost causing an accident. We are now being told we need a new engine due to sludge. They are stating it was caused by lack of maintenance and refusing to honor the warranty. We get regular oil changes and the last being by the dealership themselves just weeks prior. But because we did 2 changes through my husbands company, they won't accept our proof of maintenance. My make, model and year has a current recall on their engines but because mine is a 3. 3l and not 2. 0 or 2. 4, it's not covered. This is ludicrous.

I own a 2017 kia Sorento with 45,000 miles. My check engine light kept coming on along with engine noises. Each time I would bring it into layton, ut kia service center, I was told it was just O2 sensors and one time it needed the engine harness replaced. Just 3 weeks after my last visit to the service center, I was driving on the freeway and my car just suddenly lost power and went limp. I had it towed to the service center where they told me I need a new engine and it won't be covered under my warranty stating it was caused by lack of maintenance causing engine sludge. Because we had my husbands company change our oil some of the time ( kia actually did emissions and changed it 3 weeks prior) they would not accept their documentation on this. There is a recall for this exact thing happening on same year, make and model but only for 4 cylinder and we own a 6 cylinder. This is obviously a defect with the car.
Engine make noise and not running well.

Traveling on highway when heard engine noise and then immediately engine seized, car stopped running altogether and was able to drift to side of road. Towed to closest kia dealer who says engine must be replaced at a cost of $16 thousand!!! kelly bluebook worth of vehicle is approx. $8,000. Recall for this same problem doesn't seem to extend beyond 2014 engines although there are numerous documented customer complaints of same problem in later year kia's. Help!.
I have taken my 2013 kia Sorento to my local dealership after the latest engine recall. They replaced the dipstick,. No explanation why but the level lines are different. Recently took it back to the dealership for a grinding, vibration noise in the front end, no issue reported. The past 2 oil changes which I do every 3k. Miles there has been no oil. Yesterday, I was driving, still had about 1k miles left before the 3k mile oil change and my oil light started flashing. Immediately took it to my mechanic who again said there was no oil. My car is not leaking oil anywhere.
Have not had any problems other then having to put 2 quarts of oil in the motor every other day and it stalling to the point of almost cutting off when I start to take off. I got up put oil in the car started my day as usual, ran errands and the parked the car as usual. Went to get in it the next day and the engine light was on. Started to drive it and it made the sound as if it was misfiring. Later that day had my mechanic look at it and he said what I thought it was plugs. So I changed the plugs and coil packs and it did not change a thing. Still had that noise and when you are going down the road it will start shaking and have to gear down. Called kia customer service they said it was part of the 147 recall even though it showed that it had been fixed in 2018. I explained that it shook when driven that plugs and coil packs have been changed, had to fill up on oil instead of gas and that the oil had gas in it. Told me it would cost me 230 out of pocket to have it towed. Next day took it too kia dealership who said I would have to wait until the motor locked up before they could do anything. Finally got them to look at it and they said the motor was bad. It was not safe to drive it anymore because it could caught fire or cause an accident. But yet not part of the recall said I would have to pay for all the repairs out of pocket. Not only did kia customer service and NHTSA both said it was part of the 147 recall. I am with out a vehicle and still have to pay for one that I can't even drive or get fixed.
The vehicle was traveling at about 45-50 mph on a major roadway when suddenly it made a noise and lost power. Couldn't immediately pull off the road and was only able to travel at 15-20 mph, with emergency flashers on, until a safe pull off could be identified.
While driving the vehicle on a local road at 35 mph the engine started making noises, smoking, caught on fire and seized with absolutely no warning and no engine light came on before. My 2012 kia Sorento was part on manufacturing defect recall related to the engine and it was checked by a kia service shop for this over a year ago. At that time I asked if the engine malfunction could occur at a later date even though it was fine now. They service technician stated that it could still occur at a later date but was not informed that the engine could fail/lock-up, catch on fire with no warning at all.
Takata recall. I was driving in the freeway when it started to make a noise immediately I pulled out to park but it got stuck . And power off. I tried to turned on but didn't work. I had to called. The tow to bring it at home.
My son was driving our 2013 kia Sorento with 57,000 miles on it when it started making a strange noise. He pulled over to check under the hood. He didn't see anything obvious and preceded to drive home. As he pulled out onto the city street the kia stalled. We then had to call a tow truck, get it towed to the kia in amarillo, TX. The dealership said that the engine had locked and it needs to be replaced. They also said that our kia was not covered by the recall! even though it is stalling just like all the other models included in the recall.
The engine started making noise and locked up, checked with kia on recalls dues to I've seen so many, and after trying to find one at many engine shops, they have none at the time because they said they were in high demand right now. The 2. 4 is failing, and the only recall is on the 2. 4 tdi, but I highly believe kia has to be aware of this. Motor locked up while driving on the interstate and almost caused me to be rear ended.
Currently, there is an engine recall on the 2015-2018 kia Sorento, which results in premature rod wearing and potential engine fires. Within a few weeks of having the vehicle, brand new off the lot, the engine noises (tapping/knocking) were noticed by a family member. It was reported to kia within the first 3,500 miles on the vehicle, who advised me initially that the sounds were because the engine was new and breaking in and that the sounds were normal. In January 2019, I was advised when I brought the car in for their courtesy inspection that there was a recall and they needed to perform a software update on the vehicles ecm that is supposed to turn the vehicle into limp mode to warn the driver of a potential engine fire before it happens. Kia performed the update and the engine noises still persist. The technician claimed he inspected the vehicle and reported that it was performing as intended and that he did not hear the noise. Lately the noises have been more frequent, so as a safety concern I brought the vehicle back into kia for inspection. Now the dealership and manufacturer instead of checking and confirming the safeness of the vehicle, is blaming an aftermarket oil filter and synthetic oil as the cause of the engine issues, not their engine issues that recalled thousands of cars and resulted in engine fires. Moreover, kia not only refuses to provide me with the diagnostic report and supposedly oil pressure test that they claim to have been performed that gave them those results, they also refuse to confirm to whether the car is safe to be on the road. This is a safety hazard; engine fires are real which can severely injure or kill the occupants of a vehicle. The manufacturer and the dealer refuse to address this hazard and it needs to be investigated, for consumer safety.

Engine had been making a noise (humming and grinding) when vehicle was operating between 40mph and 60 mph. Brought to kia dealer who stated it was the new tires we bought from meineke. Brought vehicle to meineke who said it was not the tires. Was driving vehicle and while exiting highway the engine shut off and had to pull off to the side of the road under 0 power. Vehicle would not start even though there was still battery power. Vehicle was towed to meineke who told me that there was no oil in the engine. We had an oil change done in may 2018 at the milford CT kia and was not due for another oil change until October 2018. The vehicle had approximately 800 more miles to reach the 3000 mile mark for an oil change also. I had the vehicle towed to milford kia who is still examining the issue. Kia stated they would check with Kia Motors to ascertain if this issue is covered by a current engine recall for 2013 kia sonatas.
Very rough start in the morning or after sitting off for over 2 hours. After 30 seconds engine noise reduced dramatically. Steering control malfunction sometimes. Making up dow button act erraticaly along cruise control and radio control. Bluetooth connection sound quality very poor.
I was driving in a highway to work, when the car started to slow down, puttered a bit quickly shut off and on- and then the engine picked up and started making a noise. I pushed on the gas and the engine churned up smoke and the car started slowing down as cars were coming up behind me on the highway! one car stopped quickly behind me, as the car came to a slow pace. The engine didn't turn off but then it clinked for the rest of the 400ft as I pulled in and parked it. I could only go 10miles per hour or slower the rest of the highway.
My 2015 kia, has always make some engine noise, I did not buy it new brand and always checked out ok when I had the maintenance done on it. The noise was getting louder and more noticeable. I took it into be checked and they said my engine is failing. Kia says since I wasn't the 1 first owner on the vehicle they will not cover it, I took out an extended warranty and they are now giving me trouble about covering it since I haven't found every maintenance record, but most of them.
I was driving down the highway and began to make a strange noise and engine light came on. It decelerated and I exited closest exit. It then died at stop light. I had to have it towed and engine needed replaced.
My kia Sorento 2015 started making a noise when I would try to accelerate it started burning look and I took it to kia where the technician told me that my car was having the same problem from all of the Sorentos 2014 that had been recalled, I contacted kia and they denied my repairs now I'm stuck paying for a car that doesn't work. My car has only 68,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact took the vehicle to ray skillman southside auto center (8424 u. S. 31 s, indianapolis, in 46227 (317) 888-9500), but no issues were found. The contact stated that the vehicle received a routine oil change on the day of the recall inspection. The contact stated that the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent shop where the oil level was checked and recorded low as well, but no leaks were found. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer were they also found the oil level to be low with no oil leaks. The vehicle was set up for an oil consumption testing. The contact stated that at 2,000 miles, the vehicle showed excessive oil consumption. The contact was informed by the dealer that the engine needed replacement. Since the vehicle was already inspected per NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) and the engine was not making noise, the engine could not be replaced under the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
Kia recall: while driving at 60 mph on a two lane highway, the engine seized up on my 2013 kia Sorento with 78000 miles on it. The company that rebuilt the engine said it was due to a loss of oil pressure. However the oil was full and clean and was 1000 miles below its next scheduled oil change. The engine did not make any noises prior to the failure. Kia states that the VIN # on my Sorento is not part of the recent recall on their engines that are failing in this same manner. I had the engine rebuilt (at a very hefty price) and am looking for reimbursement.
Took the car 6 weeks left on my warranty. Starting cold, engine making noise ( like tappats, loud} the service man and kia tech. Heard the sound agreed but the work order stated like simular engine. Now no warranty. Expired . Kia rep. Stated must bring the car to dealer ( 70 miles each way} and have $300 for taken the engine apart and drive rod is only under warranty if needed. Tranportation I on my own.
Son was driving vehicle on interstate. Started making a noise and then stopped. Had it towed. Dealership said it was the bearings on the underside of crankshaft. 114,000 miles so out of warranty. Had to replace engine at cost to me of over $7,000.
Driving 80mph on highway, heard pinging noise from engine, car slowed down and would not accelerate past 60mph. Car suddenly lost all power, power steering and brakes, resulting in a dangerous sudden stall event. Towed car to dealership, was told engine seized and needed a new engine.
I was driving on the highway in slushy snow and the brake light & battery light came on. The engine sounded rough. When I went to pull of the highway, I had no power steering.

On 1-31-16 heard a pinging noise on the highway; then the car stalled at the exit light; started it again and loud bang blow a rod after getting back on the highway to drive it to a shop. Died on the side of the highway and had to have it towed to kia in auburn wa. Kia stated they will not fix under the warranty because the wrong oil filter was installed and I didn't provide proper maintenance; which I took it in each and every time for oil changes to my auto shop. Same oil filter has been put into my car since 2011. Went back to my auto shop informed them they started the process of sending the oil filter in to be checked for defects, also found on 3 different web sites the filter can be used for my make and model. Now kia want fix my car; it has been 3 weeks without a vehicle and no word from kia; not even from their headquarters. Kia will not provide the work order stating they are not allowed to give to third party.
I first bought my vehicle from a used lot still very well condition all service records car fax, etc a few months later I had issues with the system turning lights on an a weird engine noise, I brought it into a kia delareship only to be laughed at by the service team over the phone because they hadn't realized I had picked up the line, they told me this was all normal fixed the "problems", and sent me on my way out. I called several times after that to tell them I didn't think the engine noise was correct and they told me it was normal wear and tear, a few months later my entire car shut off while on an expressway with my self pregnant and my 2 year old son. It is now at the shop and they are asking for extensive information and service records which I have and are being very odd about my vehicle and when they will know the problem. Please be careful when buying from kia, I could have been seriously injured with my children. Trading in once the issue or engine if it even gets fixed. Scared to death.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph. The engine sounded louder than normal. The engine and the battery warning lights illuminated. The steering wheel became difficult to turn and the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to turn the vehicle. Upon further inspection the contact noticed that a bolt had fractured from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,575. Oo.
At 5:40pm mst on 03/20/2014, I was approaching a 4-way intersection in a residential area at approximately 15 mph intending to stop and then make a right turn. Traffic going my direction had stop signs and cross traffic did not. There was one other car approaching the intersection from my left. Without warning, my 2012 kia Sorento completely shut off (engine, electrical and electronic). It happened silently and without dashboard warning lights or engine noise. I was not able to fully stop or turn at the intersection as my car had lost power brakes, power steering and any ability to accelerate. When the car came to a rest, it was at a diagonal, partially blocking the intersection and facing the wrong way toward any oncoming traffic to my right (there was none at the time). The car was still in drive and the ignition was still in the fully-forward engaged position, but there were no dashboard lights illuminated and the motor was dead. The other car that had been approaching to my left was able to stop in time to avoid my car, and he drove around me and continued on. I put on my hazard lights. For the first 15 seconds or so, I was unable to get the car to shift into neutral or park. Eventually, I was able to get the gear shift to move to park, but the car would not turn on despite my turning the the ignition off and on multiple times. I was about to get out and call a tow truck when the dashboard lights suddenly came back on. At that point, I was able to restart to car and drive to my destination. The car did not show any signs of a problem in the time immediately before or after this incident. We dropped off the car at the dealership the next morning 3/21/2014. At the time of this writing, the dealer has not been able to recreate the problem, nor have they found any codes on the car's computer. This is potentially an extremely dangerous problem.
On January 2014, I bought a kia Sorento, 2014. On the same day I notice a strange noise on the engine. I took the car back to medina auto in caguas, puerto rico (dealer) and they said that the noise was due to the gdi motor type. I took the car several times back the dealer, with the same feedback. "the noise is due to the gdi motor type". My wife too the car back to medina auto for it first oil change and I again ask to check the strange noise on the engine. . . They immediatelly said to her thatthe noise was becauce the engine type (gdi). They call my wife to pick the car as it was ready. I went with my wife to the dealer to pickup the car, becasue that noise was not right. When I get to the dealer, they told me the same thing. The noise is due to the gdi engine type. I request that before I turn the car on, a mech technician be with me and that he personally confirm that the noise was the gdi. Well this time they found that the engine block was bad and it had to be replaced. . . If it wasn't for me, that I push them to re-inspect the noise, my wife could it be driving the car and I wondering what could it happen to her. . After requesting the replacement of the unit with a new car and since I notified several times medina auto of the noise, the dealer refused to replace the car with a new unit and only offers to fix the engine. I am writing to you, because this is not the first time I am listening to this situation with the kia Sorento 2014. Any nosie for the kia in the engine is the gdi. . . What could it happen to my wife and kids if the engine stop running or crank while my wife was driving it? there is something not right with the kia Sorento 2014, and the dealers and service departments are failing in identify the situation that could potential can cause an accident. . . Every noise in the engine is the gdi for kia, the dealers and service departments. . . . .
