Multiple times I will be driving along, and at either a slow speed or stopped at a light, the car will just shut off. This is not safe! also 2 times the exterior lights have not come on in the dark even if you turn them on yourself nothing comes on and its been dark driving when that's happened! I'm worried for the safety of myself and children in this car, and the dealership and service dept do not find anything wrong with the car. But in looking online a lot of people have this complaint as well! if this happened to me at a high speed or driving on the interstate that could cause an accident and injur people! please help!.

When the ignition is started with the car in park, the vehicle vibrates really hard as if it wants to cut off. This has occurred with 3/4 tank of gas and 1/4 tank of gas. With the vehicle vibrating, the car is placed in "d" drive and the foot is applied to the accelerator for acceleration but the vehicle does not move. The vehicle is then placed back into "p" park and the vehicle continues to vibrate until it shuts off. This issue has been report to dean mccrary kia in mobile, al on several occasions and I was told if the vehicle does not have a code when it is brought into service there is nothing they can do. I did explain that when the issue occurs it only last for a few minutes then the vehicle runs ok until the issue occurs again.

2011 kia Sorento 116,000. Regularly maintained. The first problem was the driver side back door will not open from the outside, that happened about 6 months ago. Now, my driver side door won't open from the outside. In addition, recently my car has just shut off while driving; foot on the gas at it is not doing anything (no engine light). We park it, shut it off and restart and it will work fine for a while. There is some sort of acceleration problem. I can stop at stop sign and lightly increase my speed and it will tug like engine. No accidents. This is a huge safety concern with having 2 small children in the back seat. If I were in an accident, I would not be able to get my child out of the back. If I was in accident, someone couldn't help me or my children. This to me is very serious! sept 2017 date of back door issue not opening from outside. 3/22/18 drivers door not opening from outside. Car shutting off and not working properly as been since about Jan/2018. There is something wrong with headlights too. Since 1/2017, bulbs are good but they just work for a while and then one or the other stops working out of nowhere.

I was travelling about 30 mph on a city street when the gasoline pedal would not work. I pressed the gas pedal and nothing would happen. About 5 seconds later a few lights on the dashboard lit up and then the entire engine shut down. I coasted to the curb in a no parking zone. I tried to restart the car but it would not "turn over. While driving on the parkway at 55mph the engine shut down leaving me without power, the battery light and engine light came on. I was in the middle lane with my two small children in the backseat, not only did I not have power to the engine I didn't have power steering for the vehicle shut completely down. I was able to pull off the road to the side of the road, where I tried to restart the car only to smell something burning from the engine. This was the scarest moment for me alone on the side of the parkwy with two small children and traffic flying past us. My car had to be towed to the dealer and it is three days later and the car is still not starting and they can not figure out why. My car only has 61,000 miles.

I was driving back from orlando, florida after picking up my daughter who travelled down from uf in gainesville - 1st weekend in September, 2015. We were travelling south i95 in the middle lane, when the car completely shut off all the red lights on the dash board came on. Luckily I was able to steer the car over to the hard shoulder, this was extremely hard, & press hard on the brakes to stop. After 5mins or so I tried starting the car again, which to my surprised it started and we continued on our journey, this time I stayed in the right hand lane, next to the hard shoulder, after a few miles, the same thing happened exactly again. The engine shut off, and came to a halt. Now we were both upset as it was after 10pm at night, we called home to let someone know to be alert, and in the mean time started the car again, this off and on again issue occurred in total four times before we managed to get home safely. Due to driving very slowly along the highway!!! the next day the car started first time, drove to auto zone as it was a public holiday, after putting their machine on it. The test came back saying maybe it needed water, and a few other codes. They advise to take it to a car mechanic ASAP, started the car made it 1/2 way home, and the car stopped dead in the middle of a two lane road, nearly causing an accident. After pushing the car to a side road, left it for 4hrs came back & manage to get home. The next day along with my son driving the kia, and myself behind him we attempted to get to the car mechanic we never made it, the van shut down, again. Push it to another side road, and had to have it towed to the mechanic. Been there ever since, car mechanic is having trouble locating the problem, called the dealer they have offered no help. Noticed there have been reported problems occurring with the new 2016 models of the same issue!!.

While driving down highway at 55 miles per hour with a semi tractor trailer behind me. My kia sorrento just shut off. I just pulled over on the side of the highway in time so I wouldn't get hit by the semi. It took me about 6 hours to get my car home. I was out in where there wasn't a garage or nothing around. After getting it home and jump start the battery it started. Then on 4/22/15 I was taking my wife to a appointment and it did the same thing and the engine is knocking before it shut off going done highway. I bought this kia used with 52,000 miles on it in July 2014. Have extended warranty for 6 months or 36000. Well 6 months is passed and now I am struck with this problem. Called dealer where I got it. They wont help. I hope that you can help me with this problem because it is a dangerous thing that the car just shut off driving down highway. I am paying for a car that is faulty and they mislead you on the mileage to. Only get 20-23 at 55 miles per hour. Not now 30 or so like they say. I hope you can help me. While stopped at a traffic light, the car was running fine. When the light turned green, I took my foot off the brake and all the lights on my dash illuminated and the car immediately shut off. I shift into park and restart the car with no problems as if nothing happened. No other issues occurred until today (3 weeks later). This time I started my car and was driving through a parking lot with no signs of a problem. After I stopped, to let a car out in front of me, I took my foot off the brake to proceed. Immediately as I stepped on the gas, the dash illuminated, the steering wheel locked, and the car shut off. I tried restarting it a few times, but it wouldn't budge at all. I shut off all electrical devices, such as headlights, radio, and hazard lights and tried starting it again. This time it started as if nothing was wrong. I drove around stopping and going for another 45 mins to see if it would happen again, and nothing. Based on what I've been reading, it sounds like this is a common problem. Why isn't this getting the same attention Toyota and GMC cars received when their cars experienced dangerous malfunctions in several of their cars? perhaps the media needs to be alerted to this to actually bring more attention to the matter. Apparently kia is waiting for a few deaths first before they part with money to fix the problem.

I was driving to work at 55 mph and all the lights on the dash came on and my head lights shut off. My car restarted right after that and now it has done it three times since then. I am nervous when I drive because, I fear I will be stalled somewhere and it will be winter. I drive 47 miles one way to work. I am seriously thinking of trading the car off. I know I won't get anything for it but, at least I will be safe. We were told by kia that if the car shuts off it is resetting the computer and they will be unable to diagnose if a dummy light doesn't stay on. I see there are more complaints about the same issue I am having with my kia and I think kia should do a recall on them. This is a serious issue and I think it needs to be resolved ASAP.

Engine simply stopped while driving resulting in loss of braking and steering control. All indicator lights on dashboard came on when the engine shut off. Coasted to a stop, put transmission in park and was able to restart the engine. Took the car to kia dealer who said it needed a software update which was performed. The same problem of the engine shutting off happened the very next day. Taking the car back to the dealer today.

As I was driving at about 15-20mph the car shut off completely as I was making a left hand turn without warning. This is the third time at different speeds since we purchased the vehicle in January 2014. We have taken it to kia dealership for repair, regular oil changes and maintenance. They were unable to find anything wrong , read any codes with computer or duplicate the problem. At the time of the incident the vehicle was being driven about 15 mph making a right turn. At the time of turning the vehicle's steering wheel the car shut off unexpectedly shutting the engine off. Loss of control then occurred of the steering wheel (to stiff to turn) along with a difficult breaking process causing the car to veer off the roadway. Fortunately, the vehicle was brought to a stop by placing an extreme and increased force onto the break pedal before a brick pillar was struck head on.

On 3/25/14, my 2012 Sorento just shut off while driving. The car was put in park and it started fine. Took it to the dealer and it spent 2 days at the dealer. The problem could not be recreated , no fix, no issue they kept stating & there was nothing to fix. Now we're in may 2014 and the car shut off again. I was at a light and the car just shut off. I put the car in park and it started again. The is a huge safety issue and kia is taking no action for this and there seems to be alot of complaints about this on your website. I think an investigation should be opened and something should be done for kia Sorento owners. We are paying for cars with a huge safety issue and obviously need the cars we are paying for.

My kia Sorento stalled in the middle of road while crossing a stop sign. The engine shutoff and all the lights on the panel lighted on. This has now happened three times. Last two times we went to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong. There are not error codes saved in kia so they don't have a proof that this condition happened. This is very serious. We were lucky that this happened on the neighborhood streets with no traffic. I was able to start the car back by putting it in parking brake and pressing the start button again. I have seen several other posts with the similar problem. I hope this is thoroughly investigated as dealership is not ready to acknowledge or try to even re-create the problem.

I was driving on the freeway, there was a lot of traffic so we weren't driving very fast, and the car just shut off, the engine light went on and the steering wheel locked. I was able to put on my hazard lights and then I turned the car off and tried restarting it. The car started without any problems and drove normal after that.

But im worried to drive it anticipating for it to happen again. It has been in the kia service shop twice and they are claiming to fix it. Also two weeks ago the right shock needed to be replaced. I drive to work and the store on a weekly basis, no reason a two year old, bought brand new vehicle in 2012 should already need a shock replacement. I feel like I was sold a lemon.

I was leaving a patient's home when I got around the corner from their home, my car just shut off on me. All the lights were on in the vehicle but it would not move. After waiting for about two hours for someone to come help me in my situation. I had to have my car towed all the way from west haven to amity, where I had the car checked out by the mechanic that fixed the crankshaft bolt and other things costing me a total of $1100. The car was still under the warranty for being fixed again when the mechanic told me after having my car their for a couple of weeks that the bolt broke again and it messed up the whole bottom half of my engine. I am still making monthly payments on this car and I am completely lost as in what to do with it. Kia doesn't want anything but money and the other mechanic is calling this a recurring defect and doesn't see the point in fixing it when the car needs a new engine. I'm ready to scream my head off because I don't have money to keep throwing away on something I cant even use.

My 2013 kia Sorento engine shut off while driving about 20 mph. I was able to pull over to the side safely. I was able to start the car and drive off. My husband drove the car about a week ago to pick me up from work and the engine shut off again. He was on the freeway but he was only driving about 30 mph in traffic. He pulled over shut the car off. He turned the car back on put it in gear, but the car would not go. Yesterday and today it happen twice.

I was approaching a red light and applied the brakes quickly as I was going too quickly to stop at the stop line if I had not. I was only going about 20-25 mph. As I applied the brakes the car shut off. I was unable to place the car in park for a couple of minutes and the car did not respond at all. After I blocked traffic for a couple of light changes and cars were honking, I was able to place car on park and restart it. It has not happened since. I recently noticed a high pitched but very low sound while driving at first I wasn't sure where it was coming from. I am due for an oil change so I will let the dealership know when I take it in soon.

I came to a stop, suddenly the dash lights started flashing, and the car would not accelerate. I turned the key a couple of times but nothing happened, I turned off the radio and then turned on my emergency flashers. I then put the car in park and turned the key again. This time the car started and I drove it home. Two days later the Sorento was taken to the shop. Possible reason given on the workoder for the stalling/shutting down was that the gas tank had been overfilled. The technician also told my husband that this problem had been reported in other vehicles and should be solved by the brake switch recall, service bulletin 13v114000. He explained that the engine control system receives a signal from the brake switch for the starting process and, if the signal is not received, the vehicle will not start. Because of the faulty brake switch, he stated that it could interrupt the operation of the vehicle by sending an erroneous signal to the engine control system, activating the "no start" process. Even with the vehicle running, this would cause the engine to cut out. He further stated this recall replacement of the brake light signal switch should cure that problem. After running a complete diagnostic check on the vehicle, the service rep said there were no stored codes in the engine control memory indicating a fault. Since shutting the motor off due to an erroneous signal that the brake was not engaged is not a set fault code, this may not have been recorded. Also, the rep stated that if a fault had occurred, it may not have been in place long enough to record a fault code. Though he did give these answers verbally, they were not specifically indicated on the service invoice, and this connection was not listed on the recall notice for the brake light switch. Is this kias official position that the brake switch recall fixes the engine shutdown?.

While driving at freeway speeds (55-65 mph) our vehicle spontaneously shut down; all electrical powered off, engine shut down, loss of abs, loss of power steering. The vehicle would not restart until shifting into 'park' position. This was the third time this has happened, all under the same circumstances.

On 6/3/2013, pulling into a gas station the car engine just shut off. Couldn¿t steer the car or break. Put it in park and restarted. On 6/18/2013, slowing down for a pedestrian and coming to a stop the engine shut off. Put it in park and restarted. When I restarted it my seat cooler turned on automatically. Car is at the dealer right now, over night because they cannot diagnose it without it happening to them. I purchased a brand new car so I wouldn¿t have to go to the mechanic, now I don¿t even want the car if I have to worry about my safety and the safety of others every time I drive it. I hope kia makes this right and finds the problem or recalls the car.

My family and I (wife, 4 year old daughter and 9 month old daughter) had just exited the freeway and entered our housing complex. While driving through the neighborhood our vehicle's engine as well as all electrical components turned off. We were in motion at the time it turned off. We had another vehicle behind us, but luckily they saw our vehicle slowing down and drove around us. My wife was driving and stated everything locked up and, as expected, she had to muscle the steering to pull to the side and out of the way of traffic. The brake pedal was also depressed all the way to the floor, and had no abs. We had to wait for the vehicle to come to a complete stop then put the vehicle in park and start the engine back up. I initially told my wife to put it in neutral but after trying that, it did not work. After we got the vehicle back on we drove straight home. I contacted citrus kia that day and told them what had happened. I was told that they have not heard of that issue and would have no way confirming what happened unless it did it while they were inspecting it. My vehicle was being serviced from 4/10/13- 4/13/13. The end result is that they could not locate the problem but did do a number of inspections to "hopefully" prevent the problem from re-occurring. They told me there is nothing more they could do as they have no way of actually verifying why the vehicle shut off while in motion. As of this writing I was advised I could come down and pick up my vehicle, but will refuse until the problem is found and resolved, as this is my wife's vehicle and I do not want this same problem happening and it resulting in a injury or fatal collision. We leased 2013 kia Sorento in Aug 2012 after driving few months engine starts to shut down by it self, the first time shuts down on my driveway, I didn't contact dealer at that time, after few months I was driving on street and engine shuts down again and I couldn't put the car in park to start the engine again, called aaa tow truck to tow the car to dealer, after few days the couldn't find any problem but dealer contacted kia center for help and they changed parts and hoping everything is fixed but after few months the problem start again and engine shuts down again and again and again almost five times in one month, the last time engine shuts down when my wife was going to drop off our kids at school and all the cars stopped in the morning rush hour, they were panicked and we contacted dealer again for second time and took the car in for repair, after few days test drive and test everything they couldn't find anything and they did connect a recording device to our car to record the fault or code when engine is shutting down, this is inconvenient all the wires are hanging from that device. We explained this issue to dealer service manager, sales manager and it is high safety issue, I am wondering if those managers will drive this car or their family will drive this car around, it is very easy to tell us we couldn't find anything, thank god we didn't involve in any accident but if happens I am wondering what kind of answer will get from dealer. So we are going to drive around and next time will be third time and by California lemon law they have to take this car away and return our money or give us a new car.
