Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) Problems of Kia Motor Sorento

When driving on the freeway my vehicle started making a clicking noise and seized up myself and my two children where on the freeway driving about 55mph when this happened, thankfully I was close by a offramp to pull off of the freeway to the side of the road. There was no prior warning no lights that came on, I had the car towed home and the battery replaced but when car was turned on it made a loud knocking noise, vehicle was towed to the mechanic who can not get a reading or diagnostic reading from the car to see what or why it seized up, thank god we were able to exit the freeway without getting hit this was a terrifying experience and I cannot believe it did this, I've kept up the maintenance and my car was in great shape, I contacted kia for recalls I find it ironic that numerous customs with a 2013 kia Sorento and the same issues yet we are not ousted for the recall under our VIN. This could of resulted in a detrimental loss and now I am being told the engine was not supposed to do that and that this should of been part of the recall, I will continue to reach out and try to get help now that I'm being told it is safest to replace the engine, at this point I am extremely uncomfortable even operating a kia vehicle given all the research I've done and how many issues they have and continue to have with the engine, this will be my biggest regret purchasing this vehicle especially because kia is very aware of the issues yet it doesn't seem like they care, as many reports as I have seen with this identical issue all 2013 Sorentos should of been replaced due to the accidents that the engine can cause,a car should never shut off on you when your driving.

The letter stated that the vehicle's engine compartment could potentially catch on fire and instructed the contact to park the vehicle away from buildings and other vehicles. The VIN tool showed no recalls. The letter also stated that the vehicle could catch on fire even when it was not being driven. Battleground kia located at (2927 battleground Ave, greensboro, nc 27408, (336)295-1542, stated that the dealer was aware of the letter but was not given instructions from the manufacturer on how to fix the vehicle. The dealer recommended not driving the vehicle until the repair was performed. The contact was informed to contact the manufacturer to request a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was safe to be driven. The manufacturer declined to provide a loaner vehicle. The contact was informed to park the vehicle away from buildings or other vehicles. A case was filed by the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 158,000.

Uses and takes so much oil every 1-2 weeks. This should be recalled. I have to replace my spark plus because of the oil getting into them. I've had 8 plugs go back so far in the past 4 months. This is an ongoing issue. I've had my Sorento for almost 2 years. Regretting getting a kia. Love the car butt the oil and repairs and the fact it could catch fire ???? yeah I don't let my kids ride in it anymore. Kia should be ashamed ! fix our cars now.

An independent mechanic tested the vehicle ,recharged the battery and stated the engine was finished after he heard a load knocking when the vehicle tried to start. The contact searched the VIN on the NHTSA website and saw no recall. The manufacturer gave her a case number and then arranged to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer confirmed the vehicle was not in a recall but would refer the case back to the manufacturer. The contact called back and was told her case was declined with no reason given and it would be escalate the case to a higher level two days ago. The failure mileage 107,000. Tf.

The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate the vehicle, there was an abnormal banding noise coming from the engine and the vehicle delayed to accelerate. Driving fine, came to a stop sign, stopped, push accelerator and engine revved to high rpms but did not move. Vehicle began to move but lacked power. About 150 yds up the road, all dashboard lights came on and vehicle shut down, leaving vehicle half way in the road on a steep, blind hill. 37 degrees outside- vehicle would not start. Four year old child in the car as well.

Takara recall, Monday September 17,2018 my kids read bright to a kia dealership for an oil change before leaving for a trip the following day. Tuesday September 18,2018 were left for our trip from missouri to florida for a vacation. My car had only 63,700 miles on it. We got into mississippi and stopped for gas. A few miles down the road I heard a noise in the engine, we stopped to see if maybe we had just got bad fuel and treated it for that and checked the oil, all seemed fine except for the noise in the motor. We got 5 more miles down the road and my engine made a very loud grinding noise right before our check engine light came on and my husband felt parts falling into the oil pan and we lost all power in the vehicle and we were barely able to pull off the highway. We sat in a ditch in the middle of mississippi in the 92 degree heat with my little sister in the vehicle and decided to try and get a tie truck. 45 minutes to an hour later we finally got one there and when he tried to start my car it would crank and fire but did not sound well so we immediately shut it back down. We got the kia to the dealership and they told us our motor was completely done and needed to be replaced. Now we are still waiting for a call back to see how long the motor will be on back order and when we will get our car back. I don't even know now if I want to put my child back into this vehicle for fear that it could hurt or even kill us. My husband is a 3 time liver transplant patient and a kidney transplant patient from birth until recent. This was not a very good situation to have him in in that kind of heat in the middle of a state we don't know anything about. Luckily we had just stopped at a gas station so he had some water to drink. This is not the first or last incident with this vehicle and a recall needs to be put out a. S. A. P before someone is hurt or killed.

While driving on highway 50 about 20 miles from south lake tahoe my car just stalled out while traveling at the speed of about 55 mph. Steam/smoke from coming from the front end. As I pulled over to the side of the road other motorist traveling west bound started honking and pointing to the vehicle. After stopping is when we realized the engine area was on fire. After opening the driver side door the flames shot out from under that car causing 3rd degree burns to the back calf on my left leg. The car was in totally in flames within 5 to 10 mins.

I was driving my vehicle up a hill with my 2 young children and the car just turned off. I was unable to push the brake. No engine light or oil light or anything came on! drifted into a parking lot. It was 2 degrees out. One of the coldest days of the year. Towed the car to kia. Gave them 3 or 4 receipt as for oil changes. They denied the engine for warranty! stating sludge in engine. The vehicle was just at the dealership 6 months ago for 6 recalls and they checked everything before I picked the vehicle up. Every where I look on the complaint forums is all about oil consumption problems and engine failures with these vehicles! wish I would have know this! I have no $ for a new engine.

On 08/10/12017 while driving my 2012 kia Sorento on I-40. I heard a "rattling noise" from the engine. As I slowed down the sound got louder. I turned on a side street into a safe area and parked my vehicle. There was smoke coming from under my hood. I opened the hood and saw 2 small patches of fire. I was able to put them out, then ran to a best western hotel and asked for a fire extinguisher in case a fire would erupt again. I researched and discovered that on 03/17/2017 kia announced a recall for 2012 Sorentos. Kia's recall: sc147: " bearing wear may result in engine seizure" this is on kia's, NHTSA's , pbs and forbes websites. [ NHTSA campaign # 17v224000 "machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine"] I contacted kia's consumer affairs # and the person told that my 2012 kia Sorento was not eligible for the recall. He said my VIN # was not part of the recall. I had just returned with my family 1 day prior from a trip to mobile, al. (1500 miles round trip). On 08/12/17 I had my vehicle towed to battleground kia where the advisor & technician showed me the problem a "thrown rod". This hole is 3" to 4" diameter. (pictures attached). I asked what could have caused the rod to be thrown? I had my oil changed on schedule the latest was 07/26/2017. This vehicle has 123,937 miles on it. He replied he didn't know what caused it. On 08/15/2017 I was informed that to replace the engine with a used one with 99,000 miles was $6400 plus labor. [that is about 24,000 miles less than mine current mileage with the same potential problem lingering to happen again] it is obvious that the problems with the recall engines are identical with mine. I would like kia manufacturing to replace my defective engine with a new engine and rental vehicle at no cost to me. I'll like to partner with the local dealership to rectify this.

When beginning a right-hand turn after stopping for red light, the engine quit and it took two attempts to restart it. The car was fully warmed-up and had 3/4 tank of gas,the weather was about 82 degrees and humid. .

The vehicle was towed to oxondale kia in flagstaff arizona where it was diagnosed that metal fragments entered into the engine oil deposit, which caused further damage to the vehicle. The service manager at the dealer stated that there was a recall for the failure, but the contact's VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The recall details were not provided. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

I was driving down the road with my 4 children in the car at 45 mph when all of a sudden my car completely lost power. Luckily I was able to coast to the side of the road. It was over a 100 degrees outside and my 4 kids under 6 had to sit and wait on a ride in the heat. The car has 40,000 miles on it and has had 7 oil changes, of which I have provided the receipts for. There is engine sludge despite the fact that the oil was changed more frequently than the manual suggested 7500 miles,.

I have a 2013 kia sorrento v-6. Approx. 6 mths into owning the vehicle, while accelerating to turn right after stopping at a stop sign, the engine died and car lost all power. The car was stuck at a 45 degree angle 1/2 way into the lane of traffic. I was lucky that no-one was coming or I would have been t-boned. The car dash was completely dark with no lights whatsoever, no brakes and no steering (since both are power). I had no idea what happened and had a lot of trouble getting the car into neutral to attempt re-start. After several attempts, it finally did re-start. Took it to kia who was unable to duplicate the problem. Second time (11 mths), I was accelerating from stopping at a stop light - engine died and car lost all power, no steering or brakes - no dash lights. Cars had to go around me and I was praying I didn't get rear-ended. Again, car started after several attempts. Third time (12 mths), was at the bottom of a freeway off-ramp. Attempted to go after light turned green and engine died - again lost all power - no dash lights, steering or brakes - cars had to go around me. Fourth time (17 mths) stalled in parking lot when I stopped at intersection to turn left - same symptoms. This car is dangerous! kia needs to recall and correct this problem before a serious accident occurs and someone dies. I'm afraid every time I drive it. Huge safety issue! NHTSA, please do something.
