Failure Date: 08/05/2018

Tamara recall: while driving on briarcliff way in atlanta, GA 30345 on 8/5/18 going approximately 20 mph my engine made a loud pop sound and began smoking and shut off immediately. I was unable to restart car; called tow truck to tow car to ed voyles kia dealership in chamblee GA. They determined it was due to broken tone wheel inside engine came apart ; allegedly fixed it by replacing engine; since service I have brought 2012 Sorento back to ed voyles due my check engine light repeatedly coming back on in which ed voyles just turns it off stating; we really don't know what is going on.

38 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/29/2018

I was driving my 2014 kia Sorento down a city street when my car completely shut off . Luckily I was only going about 30 mph. It lost all power and wont restart. It showed and currently shows a red steering wheel light (I've never seen before) and a dim battery display( which battery isn't even 4 months old and all features worked long as car was in aux mode) and also check engine light is on. It was putting off a bad odor afterwards, didn't smell of oil or any other fluids Sorento doesn't have any blown fuses nor did it have any service type lights on at time it shut off. It seemed to be driving fine until it shut off. No loud noise or shaking or anything have to take to dealer tomorrow had it checked for codes and isn't showing any having it towed to the dealership is my only choice.

43 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/29/2017

I have a 2013 kia Sorento with 103000 miles and I'm the 2nd owner, I think, and have had it for 7 months. Changed the oil regularly and no engine or warning lights were on. I was driving on the highway at 75 mph and the engine stalled. I was able to pull over safely. Started the Sorento again and the engine was making a loud noise. Had to have it towed 40 miles to mechanic who said the rod bearing was the blame and the debris from that caused extensive damage to the vehicle. Contacted kia 3 times and spoke to supervisors, but they said my engine / VIN # was not covered under the recall and that it was up to me to get fixed. $7000. 00 !!.

44 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/24/2017

After 88,000 miles, the Sorento's engine started making a loud sound while driving at highway speed. The engine stayed on but continued to make a loud sound. The car was towed to peak kia in littleton, CO where it was determined that a new engine was needed at a cost of $7000-$10,000 dollars. The vehicle had regular oil changes up to this point. The dealership checked an my VIN number and said that I didn't qualify for the recall for engine particles. As a second owner, I did not have access to the 10 year warranty. I feel as if the recall needs to be expanded and honored. My 5 year old well maintained car had no reason to have catastrophic engine failure. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that is dangerous and that is effecting owners across the country.

45 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/11/2017

On July 11th 2017, my husband was driving home from work in his 2013 kia Sorento on interstate 35 going 65 mph when he heard a loud noise coming from under the hood. He continued to drive to get to the rest stop which he did not make it the engine just died , no warning lights or anything, so he had to pulled off to the side of the road and called for a tow truck, the kia was towed to the nearest mechanic which upon examination of the car determined that the engine seized up and would need to be replaced, they could replace it for $5000-6000 since they are a gm dealer we decided to have it towed to a kia dealer who came to the same conclusion and would charge us $5875 for a used engine with 120,000 miles on it which is more than our car has on it or $7100 for a new engine. We have a 2. 4 liter mpi which is not part of the recall but should be, there is no reason a 4 year old car with routine oil changes should blow and engine!.

46 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

60 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/24/2013

Engine started making a loud noise, checked oil turned engine off and on again and noise continued. Drove home approx 150 miles from visiting our son at college. After arriving at home engine still made noise. Took into dealer the following day and today was informed we are needing a new short block engine and it's on backorder for a week and a half. Not a happy customer, since I am making car payments and don't have the vehicle. It worries me what is yet to come with this vehicle. The reason we purchased it to begin with was the warranty, but had we known we'd be using it 7 months into owning this kia I would have never purchased it to begin with. I do want to say the dealership we are dealing with are extremely helpful with a loaner car, although it's a sedan and not what I purchased. So they are doing their part and I appreciate that fact.

61 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/08/2012

We purchased 2 kia vehicles on 12-8-2013, one being the 2013 kia Sorento awd 4-cyl-gdi. We took delivery of the vehicle and had to return on Monday to turn in the other trade. We questioned the salesman about the rough idle and loud noise that it made at stops but he said it was normal and it would work itself out after a break-in period. The next day when we were stopped at a red light the vehicle began to shake and the lights stated to flicker, I told my wife to give it gas and then it stopped. . Until she let off the pedal. We submitted am inquiry to kia through the website and by the next day we were contacted by a regional rep. We scheduled an appointment to bring it in and then I began researching this issue. . . To which I quickly lost that warm fuzzy feeling of a new kia owner! we left our vehicle at the dealership for days until we had enough, we were fixing to have to pay a note on a vehicle we didn't have! we called and picked our vehicle back up, we are being told that the parts are on back-order from korea. We have been contacted from a rep out of georgia now and we just keep being told to be patient. I am not happy at all as we purchased two new vehicles and we should not be having to deal with this. Had we left our vehicle at the dealership (which is what they wanted while we drove a nasty rental) we be out for at least a month as the parts aren't scheduled to be shipped until the 21st of January! we have no idea of our legal rights if any, and I do not feel comfortable with my wife and children in this vehicle. Kia offers nothing more than a stinky rental car and please be patient. . . . The service manager however at the dealership has been wonderful. . Unlike the sales manager!.

62 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/10/2012

Summary: update to below problem I bought my Sorento in 2004, new. I replaced the coolant reservoir at 61000 miles due to overheating, replaced the low beam headlight bulbs on 4 occasions, tail lights on 2 occasions. My vehicle, 5 speed manual transmission, started to have a roaring noise approx. 6 months ago and the u-joints were replaced. It still roars. It quit running on 2-16-12 while I was driving, but restarted. It finally quit again and would not restart on 2-17-12. Check engine light indicate a fuel pressure sensor problem, but mechanic says this should not cause the problem I presently have. It has been in the shop since 2-18-12. The mechanic said it started for him. I insisted he let it run for a while and see what happens. Sure enough, it quit. Kia mechanic told me it may be a crank or cam sensor issue. Other problems--front dome light off and on at will, rear one works, clock on and off at will, vehicle hums loudly when driving for a while. It has been a reliable vehicle for the most part, but when there is an issue, it is hard to detect. Above work was completed at a cost of 1126,00. But now crankshaft bolt broke while driving costing damage to engine heads. Vehicle went back into shop and is still waiting repairs. Kia owes it customers better service and must pay repair cost and take responsibility for the faulty crankshaft bolts they provide to the mechanics .

65 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/20/2007

On July 20, 2007 driving home from work in the rain, on the highway my car made a loud noise and I lost steering and did everything I could to not hit cars beside of me and the poor guy behind me from crashing in to me. Called my husband who came and picked up the harmonic balance off the highway, lifted the hood to find a large bolt (now I know crankshaft bolt) broken. Which I have. I searched and found where there were several complaints and that kia was going to recall. I called kia on the 1st of Aug. (car has been sitting in my driveway because it has 68000 miles and I am the second owner), who had my car towed to the rusty wallace kia in louisville, TN. (checked the mail when I came home and there was a recall on crankshaft bolts) imagine that. It is still sitting there at the dealership. They keep telling me the district manager is trying to decide whether or not to fix it. I had spoken to a couple of tech's. And they told me my motor was gone. The bolt broke off inside the motor. Kia is now jerking me around. I have had to put off vacation and my husband and I are sharing a vehicle which is costing me a fortune in gas because we work in opposite directions and I work about 30 miles from my home. Can not get any help. I have researched and found huge complaints about this. Kia has known about this.
