The contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v652000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, there was smoke coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the radiator needed to be replaced due to a hole in the radiator. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.

My vehicle started running hot after driving down the highway and kept cutting off out of the blue. Then I checked all the coolant and radiator to see if fluid was leaking no sign of a crack. Then took it to o'reillys auto parts because check engine lighr shows codes p0087, defected transmission fluid temperature sensor, defected pcm/tcm. Poor connector and the fuel rail pressure sensor. After having it towed to kia they open it up and said I needed a new engine and my head gasket was cracked. And.

The engine in this vehicle is malfunctioning. Radiator leak caused issues with engine which then caused overheating and a $10,000 repair. No extended warranty. Kia stopped making these engines because they were so bad. Not fair as the consumer to have to pay and clean up a mess that kia created.
Car started overheating and coolant backed up and over flowed coolant reservoir. Also being winter there was no heat coming from the heater. This happened whether traveling 70 miles an hour, stopped at a stop sign, or idling in park. Temperature gauge would go from normal temp to over heating temps, back and forth with the sound of bubbling in the reservoir and heavy coolant leakage. Me and my wife also noticed a strong foul fuel oder exspecially when driving on the freeway. I replaced the thermostat, flushed and filled the radiator with 50-50 mix of antifreeze and it changed none of the problems listed above. Had system pressure tested and a scan of the engine ob2 module and came back with 0 codes. Researched vehicle and found recall number sc147 engine/engine cooling, engine replacement.

I was driving my 2012 kia Sorento on the highway driving to work going about 60mph and I feel a "klunk". As I tried to accelerate, my rpms were rapidly dropping, then I felt the engine cut. I popped it into n and had to make my way across the 3 lane highway. Coasted to a stop on shoulder and observed smoke from the engine compartment. Upon popping the hood, there was a small engine fire which I was able to extinguish. There was oil all over the place. Behind the engine, on the serpentine belt, on the radiator. It wouldnt crank so I had it towed. Auto shop called and stated "we checked the oil levels and it was at the l line on the dip stick. Tried to crank it to no avail, then tried to manually crank it as well. Upon further investigation, we noticed a hole in the engine block, with a piece of the engine missing. You are definitely going to require a new engine. " specifics, I have no idea what the issue may be.

I started experiencing overheating issues in July. Knowing kias are notorious for engine trouble, my mechanic checked the head gasket. It was fine but my radiator fan needed replaced. The very next day after having my fan replaced, my head gasket blew, driving down a state route. No warning, no check engine light, nothing. I have now had my entire engine replaced (long block, cylinder head, and gaskets). They have now discovered that my radiator is leaking, which like the radiator fan, is not covered under warranty. It seems that kia knows there is an issue with these cars and is doing nothing to recall them.
My Sorento was making a noise in Aug 2018. I took my Sorento to kia. Kia stated the noise was a low engine bearing noise on start and recommended engine replacement at my cost. The car at this time had 117,090 miles, which just put it out of warranty. Fast forward to June 2019. We were driving my Sorento on a highway going a speed of 55-60 mph, when my engine stopped running and 3 children and myself barely made it off the road (this could have been much worse if I was pulling out into fast moving traffic). The car sat for 30 mins and restarted, but made a funny noise. It took us 2 hours to get tow truck to come on the side of the busy highway to get our car and us moved to safety. They finally arrived and the car was towed on a wed night to the same kia that worked on it in 2017 and a note was left with my keys about what happened including the noise. The next morning (thurs) I called and spoke to the service manager at kia and repeated the noise and issues that brought my car into them. He called me back stated he let the car run for 1. 5 hours, checked the electrical system, and all the fluids. The car didn't sputter or stall out. On fri they ran diagnostics on the car. Then they test drove the vehicle to see if they could replicate the noise. The car did not make it far from kia before the connecting rod blew 2 holes through the engine and landed on the radiator. All fluids were lost per service manager at kia. He stated that they did not hear the knocking of the rod prior to hit happening when the technician took it on a test drive. No paperwork has been shared regarding the current state of my car.
Vehicle was in motion traveling down the highway, when engine shuts off completely. No warning lights were illuminated or anything. The indicator never went up to hot, there was no steam from the radiator--only a thick cloud of black smoke coming from behind the engine. Had it towed to the repair shop to find out that engine had cooked itself from the inside out and had to be replaced. The mechanic stated that the oil and fluids were good except all the coolant had been blown out and that it was a defective engine. Spoke to several different mechanics and were told they had encountered many other kia Sorento that did the same thing. Engine would suddenly just stop. I am the second owner and therefore not covered under the original warranty. This is unacceptable. There should be a recall on the engines and/or vehicles. It is gonna cost me over $5000 to repair my vehicle!.

Per the mechanic, metal chips in the oil, radiator over heated and cracked the engine this sounds exactly what was recalled for the 2. 5 engine. . While driving car started overheating.
We were driving on the highway when we noticed the temperature gauge going up. We stopped at a shop and got it looked at and they replaced the thermostat and flushed the radiator. On the highway on the way home we noticed the temperature gauge going back up and pulled over. We had it towed home. We again made the repairs and then took it to the kia dealership for them to look it over and have any necessary repairs done and paid by the warranty we have on the sorrento. The dealership hooked up the vehicle to check the free stream data fault codes but non were present. Our sorrento got hot enough to warp the engine heads and require a new engine but never once did it trip a code/warning light on the dash. If it hadn't been for us noticing the temperature gauge going up we would have had no warning that our car was overheated to the point the radiator boiled over and warped the engine heads. Why wasn't any warning light such as check engine light or anything signaled to come on?.
When iphone connected the stereo randomly skips. And when my wife got out of the car the stereo wouldn't shut off. Also took car in to dealership multiple times due to leaking radiator fluid. Fixed gasket but still smell radiator fluid when you have car running awhile. Also engine makes terrible knocking noise like a litter issue when you start the car up. It lasts about 10-15 seconds.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact was informed that the lower radiator hose fractured and also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer was contacted and provided a cost estimate to replace the engine. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
Car does perfectly fine for two weeks then runs through radiator fluid and oil like it's crazy has not thrown a check engine light has had multiple maintenance is fixes we have literally almost had a severe accident because the car started to smoke and had the radiator cap almost explode off of it . And it literally was driving on a normal speed going about 75 mph-80mph, on the highway when suddenly it goes to a complete and utter 20 mph with her to the floor this car has been nothing but trouble it's been taken care of it's barely driven from our time of purchase. And the amount of certified veteran kia. Mechanics all having no idea what's wrong because when they think they know what the fixlast but a week or two been paying for a rental car for almost a year now while still paying my payment on a kia that cuomo has no recall and almost killed my entire family on the I 40 in eastern north carolina in the dark as well when it was an icy stormy road that I just been cleared we could've died and god knows what we could've done to others the road was safe take it into multiple kia certified mechanics that your mechanics mom and pop mechanics two dealerships and nobody can figure out the problem this is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened to my family I have a car that has been sitting at a mechanic shop all over eastern north carolina forever year now or in my driveway that I just pay on and pay a mechanic bills for because nobody can figure out why it over he eats why the speed why I almost catches on fire and white and black system break or the brake system and speed system is completely haywire. My family's or my wife dream vehicle is been our nightmare. I have plenty of bills I can upload here the date below is the date that I've been paying for to sit in my driveway and for it to be looked at mechanics for them to fix some thing and nothing be resolved.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact stated that there was an internal oil consumption failure that caused the oil to constantly have to be refilled in the vehicle. An oil consumption test was provided by benson kia of spartanburg (1100 n pine st, spartanburg, SC 29303, (864) 585-3611) and it was diagnosed that there was a crack in the radiator. After the oil consumption test was rendered, the oil leaked under the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer refused to comply with an extended warranty campaign for the engine assembly and oil consumption failures due to the vehicle's maintenance record. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer provided no assistance. The failure mileage was not available.
July 2016, while hwy driving my 2012 kia Sorento (v6) (@69,000 mileage) the car abruptly stopped & smoldered (police called fire dept). Car was inoperable, towed to shop & then to kia dealership who advised that radiator cap melted & they found "metal in coolant & the engine" (as noted on the kia dealerhship documentation). He said he never saw such a thing. Dealer said engine needed replacement because of the metal found in engine & metal likely caused overheating which melted rad cap. Kia dealer installed new radiator & a used engine (w/43k mileage), costing me $14,000. The car has continued to make a knocking noise and recently 7/2019, @122k miles again smoldered & lost power. Radiator cap again "melted" requiring a 3rd radiator replacement. Gauges/dash showed no indication of car overheating. I fear problem is recurring with 2nd engine (same defect). Learned of 2012 Sorento recalls for exact issues (metal in engine, overheating/fire, knocking & power loss). Kia dealer (8/2019) informed me only 4 cyl units were recalled for metal in engine & my 6 cyl unit with the same engine-metal issues was not covered by kia recall. I asked if anything related to car use or maintenance would have caused metal to contaminate an engine; dealer said no, problem is unrelated to car use or maintenance and a mfg problem was the only way the metal would show up it. But because there was no recall on the 6 cyl models repair costs were mine. They refused to contact kia. My vehicle has the exact same problem as the 4 cyl models & it's a unique defect known on numerous kia models. Kia dealer acknowledged my impeccable pm & service reord. They admit this problem would not be due to vehicle care or use, & know the problems w/ my 6 cyl are identical to 4cyls. I believe kia may be underreporting the problem & failed due diligence to identify same defects in 6 cyl models.
The overflow bottle for the radiator has been leaking again. The first one that came with the car was replaced in 2011 and now we are having to replace the radiator reservoir again.

The contact owns a 2004 kia Sorento. While driving 65 mph, the power steering failed and the vehicle shut down. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they diagnosed that the radiator water overflow container cracked. As a result, fluid leaked and overheated the engine, which caused it to fail. The engine will need to be replaced at the cost of $11,000. The vehicle has over 60,000 miles; therefore, the manufacturer will not assist. The current and failure mileages were 62,000.

I have a 2004 kia sorrento which I purchased new. It currently had 64,000 mile and I have kept up with all maintenance items and have had them performed by kia service in the dealership. While I have had some mechanical problems with the car (bad lifters, valves, radiator leaks, etc), my main issue is the electrical system. To date, I have replaced various brake light bulbs, headlight bulbs, dome light bulb and my radio unexplainable turns on/off. While I have dealt with these issues as they arise, my car has now turned of while driving on the road twice. On both occasions, all of the car lights, displays, etc, turn off completely and the car simply coasts while off. One of the occurrences I was on the interstate going 65 mph, and the car shut down. Both times I pull to the side of the road and when I turned the key, it started again. My obvious concern is that of safety as it relates to the various electrical problems (which are no longer covered under warranty) which this car has had. While I cannot speak for other kia owners, there are a host of forums which relate to similar issues. Additionally, the dealerships themselves are aware of the electrical issues, as noted to me personally by one of the technicians. I am requesting for kia to provide the level of customer service which we (as kia owners) have expected. The electrical problems are well documented and should be addressed. Furthermore, I am looking for assistance in my personal situation now that my car is only 4,000 out of warranty and has the electrical issues and more importantly the hazardous problem of shutting down. I am more that happy to provide any records which will document the problems detailed above. Also, I am available anytime to discuss further if needed. Thank you in advance for your customer service.
2003 kia part # 25430-3e201 TSB # kt2007073101 driving down road coolant over flow tank splits leaks fluid out, ruins engine, find out kia had a TSB out to replace tank with stronger re-engineered tank. Never notified public, bad design costs me thousands of dollars because not covered under warranty. I am left stranded 10 pm at night on side of interstate in pouring rain.
The contact owns a 2003 kia Sorento. While driving 45 mph, the crank shaft failed and the vehicle was towed. The total cost of the rental expense was $600. The contact stated that when the crankshaft failed, he was stranded. The kia dealer claimed to have repaired the vehicle. There are no warning indicators present when the failure occurs. The manufacturer stated that they could not be of assistance. The vehicle was repaired under warranty. The current mileage is 48,000 and failure mileage was 40,000. The consumer stated the repair was covered under recall, since a recall was issued, however he is requesting reimbursement for the rental car. The radiator assembly was replaced due to a leak at the lower seam. Updated.
Electrical failure, cooling system failure, rough running-engine misfire purchased car 2-22-2003 brand new this car has spent a lot of time on the dealers lift. Also has seen its share of tow trucks. In the past 1 1/2 years I have replaced 18 left side headlights,23 right side headlights ,16 fog lights,8 license plate lights and 6 tail lights the truck has been to 3 dealers and they all say its either normal or it's only because I did not buy the bulbs from kia well some I did and they do not last either. The last time it was in they had the truck for 9 1/2 minutes and told us there is nothing wrong and for $149. 00 they will put in a new bulb. No warranty on how long it will last. . . . . The truck also misfires and the dealer also cannot fix it they say the computer says its good so it must be good. Well you can feel the misfire even the dealers mechanic stated it is misfiring but he cannot fix it maybe after the warranty is over we will be able to find the problem. . . . . Another problem is the cooling system in the past 3 years it has had the recovery tank replaced 2 times the radiator replaced the connecting y behind the motor replaced . . . I have spent over $200. 00 on rent a cars with no help from kia each time my car is towed in this car is still under warranty so why cant they fix it o yeah the last thing is the fog lights are melting or shall I say its the inside chrome coating is burning and I was told its not warranty and there about $85. 00 each why wont kia meet with me ?????????????? can anyone please help me.

The engine coolant reservoir failed can't be repaired. It must be replaced. There are no such parts anywhere in the united states. Parts are on a boat from korea. Due to the suspected number of such failures, and to the basic lack of adequate design of the part, we suspect that there has been a major draw-down on the part, resulting in a stock outage. Operating the vehicle w/o this major component would result in engine failure. Such engine failure, under certain conditions, could result in an accident, and potential injury.
When I stopped at 12,000 ft mt pass summit in remote area I noticed fluid draining from my kia Sorento. I limped into small town -had the radiator checked and refilled-temperature gauge did not register hot- I was sent on my way but then became stranded in middle park area of colorado (kremmling) with what was discovered to be cracked, leaking resevoir. No authorized repair shop in area and kia wanted me to cross mt pass to get into denver 100 miles away!--kia refuses to honor warranty as I was not at authorized service shop-it took me days to locate the needed parts and have the replacement done. Upon returning home to authorized kia dealer for a general inspection of the problem I was told there were 3 other vehicles with same incident--now there are 2-3 more cracked and leaking resevoirs plus mine -(told to me by the kia service department)--kia Sorento 2003; mileage 33,500--old part is available for inspection--interesting to note-new resevoir is of different design, so kia knew there was a problem!.
