The airbag light on my kia Spectra stays on and the kia dealership quoted me $1600 for the b1448 code which is passenger seat mat occupancy sensor or something like that, and my car is under 80000 miles. I think that amount is really high for a senor to fix and kia should fix and recall the airbag issue since it is a high risk for the safeties of american lifes. Nhtsa should make kia recall the airbag issue. Thank you.

Our vehicle failed inspection due to the air bag light being on. When diagnosed, code b1448 was found, indicating that the occupancy sensor, part of the seat sensor mat (on the bottom of the seat), was faulty. We are concerned both about the safety of driving our car, and the high cost of repair. It seems that this is a widespread problem, and we believe that kia should recall the part.

The airbag light is on. I went to a kia dealership and they said they need to replace the front passenger seat and gave me an estimate cost of +2000 usd. After doing my search I found that there are so many people out there with the same problem. The problem started as while the car was in motion, the aribag light started blinking for a while and then remained on. It is a manufacturing malfunction that is causing the whole aribag system to not do its work. The cost is too expensive for me to handle and I believe the company should fix it.

I own a 2008 kia Spectra and have had air bag system issues with the passenger side OCS mat. About a year ago,I had the seat replaced due to the fact that you can not change out the mat itself. This cleared up the issue and the air bag system worked fine. For a while. Now the air bag light is on again with an adult male sitting in the seat it says that the air bags are disabled. If you push on the seat towards the front of the seat bottom while sitting in the seat, the light goes off and the system is active. When you stop pushing on the seam the system deactivates. I spoke with kia dealership parts department and they said that this is a common issue but they will not recall the item. You have to purchase a new seat bottom from them at a cost of $1397. 45 parts only. The parts are only covered under a 1 year warranty. If this is a common issue( according to kia dealership ) why has there not been a recall on this vehicle and all others that have the defective OCS mat? they seem to be making a lot of money for a part that they know and have confirmed as being defective at the cost and safety of the consumer?.

The passanger air bag sensor light went off and the air bag light went on and never went off. I am worried that if my car gets hit the passenger will get hurt possibility die.

We bought my daughter a 2009 kia Spectra (used) for her 16th birthday in 2012. The mileage was at about 50,000. In just two years we have had to replace so many things on this car it is unbelievable, this car was junk when we bought it, we just didn't know it. This morning she told me that her airbag light came on for the first time and didn't know why. She had a passenger and still the light would not go out. Also the tps light has been on since we bought the car even with replacing the tires and rims it stayed on. Kia should definitely have a recall on this year, make and model. They are obviously a lemon and if kia cares about their consumers they would do something about this problem. We are now looking to replace this kia because we don't feel our daughter is safe after reading all of the complaints in this forum. Thanks kia, we will never buy anything you make ever again.

The air bag light has illuminated on the dash cluster and the light for the passenger side airbags will some times flash on and off like the exorcist. Even with a 200 pound adult in the passenger seat.

I have a 2008 kia Spectra. At 140,000 miles the air bag light came on and has been on since, I am now at 158,000. I have read where the seat needs to be replaced, however I do not have the means to do so.

My air bag light on my dashboard has been on for several weeks now. When I took my vehicle to be looked at they said that it would cost over a grand to repair it. They also said that if I don't repair it the air bags could deploy while driving or they may not even deploy if in an accident. I do not feel like my vehicle is safe to drive. I see a lot of people with this make and model having the same problems and that leads me to believe that it is an error on the manufactures part. I feel that a recall should be issued for this problem! if this does not get fixed I will never buy another kia. Why would I buy a vehicle if I won't feel safe driving it?.

A few months ago the passenger airbag light started flashing on my 2009 Spectra. It went from flashing on and off to alternating flashing with the airbag symbol on the dashboard. Finally, the passenger airbag light went off completely and the airbag warning symbol stayed on. Due to several family tragedies I just now had the time to take it to my kia dealer. Was told it was the passenger side airbag sensor which is built into the seat itself and the whole seat would have to be replaced at a cost of $1765. 00. I have only 18,450 miles on the car but because I had had it longer than 5 years, I will have to pay it myself. The dealer said the car has a built in safety feature which will deploy the airbags anyway but that I should have it fixed. I can't afford this but am afraid my life insurance would not pay if I had an accident and had not had the airbag issue corrected.

Problem is you can not replace just the part, you have to buy the complete seat bottom at a cost of $800 - $2,000 depending on the dealership that you speak with. This is a large cost to replace every 3 - 6 years (depending on age and mileage). Kia and Hyundai have had recalls before for the same air bag systems in other vehicles but refuse to recall the part in the Spectra.

Air bag light will not go off. I did take my car to a kia dealership and they told me that I would have to replace my entire passenger seat, in order to fix the air bag system. They wanted to charge me about $2,000 because my vehicle is no longer under warranty. In February of 2014, was when the incident first started to happen and is when I brought my car to the dealership. I was told it was dangerous to drive around with my air bag system messed up. I did look to see if there were any recalls or complaints about the vehicle but I did not find any at that time. Air bag light on driver side turned on? it goes on and off sporadically, dealership wants unreasonable repair cost for such. I believe this is a defect in electrical warning system. A recall to repair should be issued. Kia customers are raising this issue and we are not being heard? do we have to wait for a tragic incident to have your organization do something about this?.

There were no accidents leading up to a failure. The airbag light in my 2008 kia Spectra ex suddenly came on. The passenger air bag light will not come on anymore while the air bag light comes on in the dash board. I called my local dealership in naples, FL where I bought the car and asked how much it would be to have it checked. They told me that it would $120 to hook it up to the computer and if anything needed to be replaced, they would include it in the price. I also asked if they had any complaints and they said no and that since it was a "secondary safety system" it did not really need to be replaced. I looked online to see if anyone else had complaints like mine and found almost 100 complaints. Some stating that dealerships were telling them it would be $1200-$1700 to have the entire seat replaced. Also read that one was told that "either the air bag will not go off in an accident, or it would randomly go off going down the road". With the amount of complaints about the same thing, I am surprised there has not been a recall. I refuse to pay that kind of money for something the manufacturer should fix.

I own a kia Spectra 2009 at the beginning of the month the airbag light on the dash came on and stays on. The airbag light that is in the center console for the passenger seat (which indicates if on/off) is not working at all. Called kia and spoke with a representative and was told because of the mileage the warranty not cover this. Took it to the dealer and the cost of the seat replacement is going to $1637. 31. By the looks of this it is an ongoing problem with certain models for kia. I can not justify this amount for the passenger seat replacement. Was also told by the representative that it would be forwarded to a manager to see if any assistance could be offered for the replacement of the seat. In the state that I live in this vehicle will not pass state inspection.

I purchased my kia Spectra new in 2009. Since then I have had various times when the passenger's side airbag light would be "off" suggesting that no one/ thing over 45 pounds was located in the passenger seat. Despite having other people accompany me in my car, the airbag light only went off when I had a 6'1" 190 lb teenager in my car. More recently (and frequently) I have had a 165 lb 6' male friend riding with me. He always sits in the passenger seat. The passenger air bag light has showed "off" despite frequent attempts by my friend to change his positioning in the passenger seat. Even after getting out of the car, and later getting back in, the light continued to show as if the passenger seat was empty. . It doesn't matter how fast, or slow I was driving, the results were still the same. I bought my kia due to it's high safety rating.

The driver and passenger side airbag lights a staying on. I was told this could have them deploy while driving or not deploy at all if there in a accident. I have read many post about this issue with kia's and there should be a recall on such saftey components.

I actually own 2 kias same year and model. Air bag light would come on and off when someone would sit in passenger seat. Then it started staying on all the time on so it was still under warranty so they replaced the sensor. Now my husbands kia is doing the same exact thing and it is out of warranty so they refuse to fix it without charging me, so I have to ride with him at my own risk because I have no air bag protection on my side.

Drivers side airbag light stays on. Shop said it had to do with sensor under seat which is part of the recall in the rio. Cost almost $2000 to repair an kia won't over it. If something happens airbag won't deploy. The Spectra should be part of the recall.

When I first bought my car used everthing worked like it should!!!! 1. First thing went out was my clock on dashboard 2. Back drivers side brake light will not work without replacing a new bulb every week 3. Window on rear passenger door will not roll up on passenger side the driver has to roll it up 4. Cd player plays when it wants to , sometimes I cant get cd out until its ready for it to come out 5. Driver side door has a leak somewhere cause when it rains my floor gets wet under the door 6. Gas tank - most of the time you have to pull up on the handle a few times to even get the gas tank to open my main concerns is : brake light not working airbags window I have childern that ride in my car and I want it to be as safe as possible.
