1 Service Brakes problem of the 1999 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

" takata inflators" certain sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standards no. 105, "hydraulic and electric brake systems," and no. 135, "passenger car brake systems. " the anti-lock braking system (abs) modulator valve cover retaining bolts can crack due to stresses transmitted by the flexing valve covers. The end result will leave cause a wreck for my kids and I. And with a possible law suit. The car is 17 yrs old. And is dangerous for me too drive. I need to take extra precaution because I have kids.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 01/26/2012

While attempting to park in a parking lot, my wife applied the brakes, which caused our 2001 Land Rover Discovery Ii to suddenly accelerate. The harder she pushed, the more it accelerated. Fortunately, she hit a concrete encased light standard before hitting anyone or another vehicle. She was not hurt, although very traumatized, but the vehicle hit so hard, it crumpled the whole front end, effectively totaling the vehicle. I was dismayed to see the number of Land Rover sudden acceleration incidents when I googled it. It certainly appears there is a design flaw which has not been successfully resolved thru any recall efforts by Land Rover. I intend to pursue legal recourse.

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Land Rover Discovery Ii. The contact stated that the abs modulator valve cover and bolts were replaced twice and had recently failed a third time. The contact's mechanic advised that there was a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 04v005000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 61,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

Failure of abs system while driving. 3-4 times per week while city driving the abs/hill descent/traction control warning lights and chimes come on. The system typically resets after stopping and re-starting the vehicle (sometimes requires neutral start to reset). This is similar to a failure I had in a 1999 model that required over $3,000 in repairs to replace a failed abs pump. Land rover insists that there is no fault code left on the obc after these events, but all indications point to a systemic and on-going problem with the series of abs pumps used over the years. This seems to be an important safety system in the vehicle, but lr seems to have no interest in addressing it.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 05/10/2009

My 2003 Land Rover discovery suffers from a well known problem which causes the abs and traction control to fail. Hundreds of discoveries suffer from this well known problem with no fix or recall from Land Rover. The problem has been coined "three amigos" and can be easily found by searching online. I am dependent on my abs and constantly and consistently am putting my family at risk with this constant and consistent failure. My discovery recently slid off of the road due to loss of abs during a rain storm. I had 2 children in the vehicle with me.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 12/07/2008

The problem is with our 2003 Land Rover discovery. The problem occurs almost daily. The traction control, abs, and hill descent (referred to as the three amigos). I feel this is very much a safety recall due to lack of braking and traction when these lights all are on. When these lights are on the traction control device does not function. Due to living in illinois weather this creates problems driving on snow and ice covered roads-in which in our area we seem to be having a shortage on salt for the roads. The full reasoning as to why I bought this vehicle was to not have to worry about road conditions (I didn't think problems with system failures would occur with the cost of these vehicles) I feel this is a recall problem. Putting many peoples lives in jeopardy who actually feel they are safe while driving until they experience the failure of this system in these vehicles while on a weekend trip or four wheeling as which they were designed to do. This is not a problem that I created on my vehicle this is a problem that the company created when they produced these vehicles and sold them. I do not feel it is my responsibility to correct their flaw that they made in the production of these vehicles with defective system allowing failure during driving conditions if a system fails that is defective. As to any deaths related in this incident -the answer would be as of this time no and I pray that does not happen, and I do not believe the police where called because I'm quite sure they could care less if the traction control or my abs are functioning properly and thank god that I did not have any property destruction or crashes yet.

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

The antilock brakes, hill descent and traction control lights illuminate on my Land Rover discovery on a regular basis. After research on the internet this is due to the abs modulator, and is a common problem with this vehicle. However, no recall has been issued as yet with this part.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2000 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 04/25/2008

In my 2000 Land Rover discovery 2, as apparently in many others, from time to time, usually after applying the brakes in a routine stop, an alarm chimes and the lights on the dash illuminate showing that the anti-lock braking system is no longer working as well as the hill descent control and traction control system. This is such a common failure that just about every discovery 2 owner knows it by its nickname, the three amigos! clearly a failure in the abs is serious, especially if it results in a valve locking up and disabling the brakes as has possibly happened. The other two functions relate to use in low traction environments, such as snow, and are potentially hazardous as well. I believe this should be a recall issue. This happens every time I drive my discovery, including today (the date I listed below).

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Land Rover Discovery Ii

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

The defect is already recorded as service bulletin NHTSA item no. 10016118. In short, there is an issue with the shuttle valves in the abs system, which result in the abs/traction control/hill descent warning lamp illumination in the dash, and more importantly may prevent the abs from activating as needed. Due to the overwhelming number of owners experiencing this same specific issue, a recall is very appropriate. There are inherent problems with the abs in these cars, as is preliminary evident in the fact that there has already been a recall for another component in the abs (NHTSA recall campaign id no. 04v005000). This issue is very widespread among owner's of this automobile. The safety system of the automobile is compromised and the NHTSA should require Land Rover to finally address this problem.
