Infotainment system "touch" screen doesn't work and I experience "ghost" touching where it's as if someone is actually pressing the screen to toggle between the different functions, raise/lower the volume, etc. , when my hands are no where near the screen. It's a very dangerous distraction when it happens while driving.

With only 60k miles on my car which I regularly take in for maintenance, my car started to leak a ton of oil. It was determined that the cylinder head is cracked. This should not happen on a car this new and maintained. In doing research, this seems to be a common occurrence with this year.

The rear camera dose not always display on the lcd screen, likely due to the ghosting issue with the infotainment system which randomly cuts in and out. This poses a safety hazard when backing up. Despite repeated complaints from other owners as well regarding the lcd screen, Mazda will not cover cost of replacing the lcd screen. I had a 2014 Mazda 3 for which there was a recall for the same issue and they covered it. So I don't understand why they won't do it for this vehicle. Being able to see what is behind the vehicle when backing up is a safety concern. I provided date of most recent occurrence, but this has happened multiple times before.
During snowfall, the front camera becomes obstructed, leading to a malfunction in the Smart brake system. When this occurs, an alert appears indicating a “Smart brake failure,” accompanied by an audible warning and the illumination of the check engine light. The vehicle then exhibits unpredictable behavior, including unintended braking and sudden acceleration, creating a hazardous driving situation. The only temporary resolution is to restart the vehicle; however, the check engine light remains on for several days before eventually turning off. This issue occurred while I was driving on the highway on February 19, 2025, posing a significant safety risk. This is not the first time the car has done this.

Infotainment screen experiencing “ghost touches”, meaning that safety features can randomly be selected, activated and DE-activated, and distracting actions happen in the infotainment system while vehicles is in motion. This is a known issue in Mazdas, and a recall has been issued for 2014-2016 Mazdas to replace the infotainment system. However, this issue is also happening in later models, including the 2017 to 2020 Mazda Cx-5. This issue has been diagnosed by the dealership (roger beasley Mazda in georgetown) and the system throws an error, cmu dtc 1 - b108e04 (display-system internal failure).

Touchscreen continues to change to different screens ghost touch screen malfunction is know to dealer as prior year models have also had problems and recall was issued dealer won’t cover cost of repair as it’s out of warranty this just started so I wouldn’t have known during warranty the dealer will repair for $750 which is not fair as it’s a known problem it is very distracting while driving and even if I turn the display off it will come back on.
My infotainment display has a prevalent ghost touch issue that causes majors distractions while I'm driving, and no warnings on when it'll happen. The ghost touch will end my navigation, end my calls or put them on hold, call random people in my contacts, turns on/off the music, changes the volume, changes various settings (sometimes safety settings), switching back/forth to different things, etc. It used to only happen when the car was not moving or I'm parked (as the touchscreen is only supposed to be available then), but now it's happening even when I'm driving on the freeway. I used to try correcting/fixing whatever by using the knob control, but the problem can become so severe that even when I use the physical knob I can't gain control over it. I can't turn off the infotainment display because the ghost touch just turns it back on! I brought it into my local Mazda dealership for regular servicing and decided to ask about it, but they're quoting me over $800 to fix it. They said it's a common issue they get all the time and it's something to do with a faulty screen?? not too sure what exactly, but a friend of mine said he had the same issue and the issue was too sporadic he decided to disconnect the touch screen altogether. It's too much of a distraction to deal with while driving, even for quick trips to the store, etc. It causes cognitive, visual, and manual distractions. . . These faulty screens are putting us all at a higher risk of being involved in an accident by taking our attention away from driving, even for just a split second.
The infotainment system randomly goes crazy - as if a ghost is touching the screen. This causes navigation to sudden stop, phone calls to randomly be made, the music to turn on and off, all sorts of other odd things. It can be highly distracting and even dangerous when it impacts navigation. This happens randomly and frequently and has been going on for about 6-7 months. Date below is approximate date it most recently happened.
I hope this message finds you well. My name is [xxx] , and I am the owner of a 2019 Mazda Cx-5 purchased as part of the certified pre-owned (cpo) program. I am writing to formally address two concerning issues related to my vehicle’s warranty coverage and its safety. 1. Warranty coverage for drive belt tensioner: during a recent visit to your dealership, I was informed that the drive belt tensioner on my vehicle is not covered under the warranty. This contradicts the coverage listed on your official Mazda cpo warranty, which specifies that the limited powertrain warranty includes the engine, timing chain, tensioner, and associated components. The drive belt tensioner is clearly referenced in this section, yet I was told it falls under wear and tear and is not covered. I kindly request a detailed explanation regarding this discrepancy. I believe the information I was given does not align with the warranty’s stated coverage, and I am concerned that the dealership is not honoring the terms of the warranty as outlined on your website. 2. Ongoing noise issue: additionally, my vehicle has been making an unusual noise, which I reported during my visits to two separate Mazda dealerships. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts to diagnose the issue, neither dealership has been able to identify the source of the noise. This situation has left me feeling unsafe while operating the vehicle, as I am unsure of its origin or potential impact on my vehicle’s performance or safety. I would appreciate it if you could escalate this matter and offer assistance in determining the cause of the noise, as well as ensure that all components of the vehicle are functioning properly. The lack of resolution is not only inconvenient but also concerning from a safety perspective. Request for resolution: I trust that Mazda values its customers and will make every effort to resolve these issues in a timely manner. I respectfully request that the drive belt tensioner be covered und information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informa.

The windshield on our new 2025 Mazda Cx-5 is defective. Objects viewed through the windshield are distorted, to include the active driver’s display (colloquially known as the hud). Drivers and passengers are impeded from clearly seeing and focusing on objects visible throughout the front of the vehicle. Objects to include road signs are distorted, lose clarity which result in unnecessary and dangerous distractions. This problem significantly degrades the vehicle’s usability, safety and ultimate enjoyment.

I have a sensitive key fob that releases my hatch without my knowledge or intention. Twice my hatch opened causing damage to my hatch inside my garage. I’ve have read many complaints about the same issue, dating back years and some having their hatch open while parked outside. I have contacted the dealership and the corporation all saying there was a nothing that can be done. This is a major concern since the key fob is so sensitive and can activate in only a second to touch.

Good afternoon. I am reporting an incident that occurred on December 29, 2024. I was driving my 2019 Mazda Cx-5 and I was about to make a left turn. However, as I was making the left turn, I received a notification on my dashboard about a "forward Smart city brake support malfunction" (a photo of the notification will be included). My car instantly lost control and it did not stop until it collided with the street curb of the road I was attempting to turn on. Fortunately for those around me, my car did not collide with any other vehicles on the road. However, this collision caused damage to the right side of the vehicle, as the right airbag of the vehicle had deployed. I believe that this is a very significant problem that should be looked into as soon as possible. If my car were to hit other drivers on the road, it could have led to a very tragic incident. As far as repairs go, I wanted to wait and see how this complaint would carry out. I do not believe that it would be fair for me to pay repairs for an event that was out of my control. Thank you.
Infotainment system randomly changes without user input. Distracting when randomly changes channels, brightness. Dangerous when randomly increases volume to maximum settings during driving.
We were locked out of the car on a road trip due to a dead battery. We needed to open the car door to pop the hood in this emergency situation. With the battery down, we had to use the physical keys provided by Mazda to unlock the door. Both Mazda's original keys did not open the driver-side door. We were stranded and had to call emergency key services to open the door. The purpose of physical keys is to open the car in case of emergency but in Mazda cx5 case they were useless. We have also reported the issue to Mazda and are awaiting a response.
While driving on the road at the posted speed limit (55 mph), I heard a gunshot-like sound. There was no debris on the road and no drivers close ahead. After hearing the sound, I hear wind above me. I open the shade of my sunroof and see that the glass on the sunroof had exploded. The sunroof was not open prior to the incident and no windows were open either. The ac was on minimal capacity. After getting off the road and looking at what happened, the glass on the sunroof had completely exploded out. You could tell by the shape of the glass that it bursted from within, either due to pressure, faulty glass, improper assembly/manufacturing, etc.
The engine light constantly appears along with the "schedule maintenance soon" light. Taken to dealership many times within my 3 month warranty and no definite reason was given. The vehicle rides very bumpy though sway bar was inspected and supposedly repaired by dealership during my 3 month warranty.

Headlight of the motor keeps rumbling in about 25000 miles of usage. Expense of fixing such a motor is estimated between 2500-2800$. Further, it is unknown how safe it would be for someone to keep driving such a car with a rumbling motor if they dont fix it. This sound and vibration of the motor can be felt even in a standing car when lights are on.

My 2016 Mazda Cx-5 has had ongoing issues with the infotainment. It freezes up in cold weather and the screen goes blank for long periods of time. This has been an ongoing issue with Mazda vehicles. I had to replace the sd card in December 2024. The cost was $326. 50. There is currently a class action lawsuit by frederick law group 836 philadelphia street, indiana, PA 15701, phone number 724-801-8555. When the infotainment goes out during phone calls or navigation, it is a distraction while driving. I called Mazda and chatted with travius about this issue and forwarded by receipt for the part. He said Mazda would not reimburse me. Can the NHTSA help in getting the reimbursement do you have any suggestions?.
I started to smell a burning smell while I was driving and noticed smoke coming from under the hood along with the burning smell. When I parked the car I noticed a bunch of oil leaking from under the car. I took the car to get checked out and there was oil all under the bottom of the car and it was confirmed that there was a very bad oil leak which occurred due to a crack in the cylinder head. No check engine lights or any indication of this issue aside from discovering the burning smell, smoke from under the hood, and a significant amount of oil underneath the car. The car hasn’t been driven in a month because of this issue. When you turn the car on you can hear a ticking sound coming from under the hood. The bad part is there was no indication. A 2019 with 50,000 ish miles shouldn’t have this problem and I confirmed that with mechanics and Mazda. This is a safety risk as you can’t safely drive the car without being concerned about the lack of oil in the car due to the leak as well as the smoke coming from under the hood, not being able to drive the car thus resulting in needing the car towed in order for the car to be serviced for this problem. I was told that if the oil continues to leak and if I was to drive it the engine could start to have issues and possibly turn off due to the leakage. This leak had oil all over the exhaust system as well.
I have a 2021 Mazda Cx-5 touring with just a little under 26,000 miles. A couple of weeks ago, I started hearing an indescribable, quiet but noticeable sound on the passenger side of the vehicle that started at 15 mph. While attempting to get an appointment at two different booked up Mazda dealerships I noticed the sound getting worse and louder. I was able to get the vehicle into a local shop (not a dealership) close to my home. The technician there stated that my rear differential was leaking and needed to be replaced. He advised me not to drive the car because he said that I could lose total control of the vehicle. I was surprised to hear this as I was planning on picking up my son from school but also because my car has low miles on it. Luckily the repair was covered under my powertrain warranty but I felt the need to share with others. To me, this is a safety issue that Mazda owners should be aware of.

Mazdas infotainment system was issued defective. The system is plagued with issues in which a “ghost” touch on the screen makes changes to the system. It is a very distracting issue and poses a safety concern as it distracts the driver from the road as the ghost touch can make changes on the infotainment system moving between settings, changing music, making random calls, and randomly triggering voice assistant if an apple car play is connected. This is a known issue for which Mazda has a fix but has never issued a recall. If you search online you will find hundreds of examples of the ghost touch affecting Mazda vehicles.
Driving at highway speed on interstate, no traffic near the vehicle, no overpasses within miles, and the sunroof exploded without any impact to it or vehicle.
The vehicle – display has a ghosting issue with the screen keeps on changing without me, touching the controls. It will switch from one function to another function independently, and sometimes the screen goes blank. This display was replaced under recall in 2020 and I’m starting to have similar problems now in 2024 for the last 10 months. When the screen goes blank, this compose a safety hazard.
Car accessories will not shut off when I put vehicle in park. This is dangerous due to causing the battery to completely drain leaving me stranded.

The infotainment system on the Mazda consistently glitches causing vehicle settings to be changed while the vehicle is in motion or stopped. The volume changes, navigation settings change, maintenance settings change including door settings and any setting that can be controlled by the touch screen. If a phone is connected to the system it will make calls and stop volume on system. Additionally, when reversing and the back up camera is enabled/used the screen glitches and you can no longer see a large portion of the rear view - making it a very large safety hazard. There are thousands of people who report this and little has been done for years other than people being charged for an entire replacement and the issue just comes back. Please see duffy v. Mazda, filed this year. There has also been another Mazda model where the infotainment was identified by NHTSA to be faulty - the repair period was extended 7 years but has been expired for years now - it has not covered any of the cx models. Dealers are very aware of this.
The vehicle accelerated on its own, while I was parking. My foot was on the brake when the vehicle just took off. It continued to accelerate until a building stopped it. I continued to brake but the vehicle did not stop. Once the vehicle collided with building, saw on the digital read out the "brake system malfunction" and then camera malfunction. The vehicle was towed from the site and the insurance adjuster has sent me word that the vehicle is a total loss.
My car has a center display that is touch screen when you're not driving but once moving you have to use controls to move around the screen. Lately as I'm driving the screen starts moving rapidly into different menus whether it's the music or time or contacts. Most recently it started changing my display from day to night. So that during the day it dims so dark I can no longer use it for mapping causing safety issues. As well, I've tried getting it to stop while driving which is of course not good. Today I was using car play and playing iheart radio and suddenly it was switching to different iheart channels. I've googled and found many other Mazda owners have had the same problem. Some of have gone to the dealership and if out of warranty they've had to pay upwards to $1200. Others have posted videos showing how to diy it. That's something I'm not going to try as it could end up creating more problems. Apparently this is a result of the touch screen. So people are going through and disconnecting the touch screen capability.
The display on my rearview camera is extremely foggy. It appears to have had a breach where water has leaked into the camera itself. I have cleaned the lens but yo no avail. I never had a clear screen, and at times it is so bad that I can’t see anything at all. In fact, I have already backed into the corner of a building in a parking lot due to lack of visibility. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve attempted to back out and almost hit a pedestrian or another car driving behind me that I couldn’t see well. It’s a good thing I use my mirrors and rear window, or that could have easily happened. I wonder if the work that was done on my rear hatch from a previous recall may have caused the seal protecting the camera unit to be compromised. There have been a number of recalls recently from other manufacturer’s, so I believe this is a common issue that should be addressed in my case as well.

Mazda infotainment system experiences ghost touching. It would operate on its own and exit applications like navigation on its own. Mazda is aware of the issue but won’t issue a recall. This can be a safety hazard when the system exits out of navigation in the middle of nowhere. The system would also make calls on its own which would cause a panic to the driver who is distracted trying to end a call they never placed.
2021 Mazda Cx-5. On 8/6/24, I turned right into a parking space between 2 parked vehicles at the dmv parking lot. I turned right and eased into the parking space facing a large Ford f 150 white pickup truck. I was approximately 1-1. 5 feet from the front of the white truck. I had my foot on the brake, suddenly the vehicle accelerated by itself and I heard the car revving at a very high rpm and the car took off. My sister was a passenger and she heard it as well. None of the collision or brake notification avoidance features came on the screen or were implemented as a safety measure or accident prevention. I had my foot on the brake and I had no control over the vehicle. The car lurched forward hitting the right side near the headlight of the car on my left and the pickup that was in front of me. My car hit the white pickup so hard that it pushed it out of the parking space in front of me and perpendicular to the parked cars in the row. We both were injured, my sister in icu and had to have emergency cervical surgery for fractures impinging her cervical spinal cord. The Mazda was totaled. It is impossible for a Mazda to push the Ford f 150 pickup truck, that was facing me , out of the parking space and perpendicular to the row of parked cars with just 12- 14 inches between the pickup truck and my vehicle unless it was revved up to a very high rpm. The police report has some inaccuracies, it states I was turning left into the space but was actually turning right and says I possibly passed out but that is not true. I was in shock when the police questioned me. I have also relived every second of this accident in slow motion many times since. I am a 5 foot women and would have had to floor the gas peddle and even then would not be able to push a large pickup truck out of the space in front of me, and continue out of the parking space landing sideways in a 12-14 inch space between the front of the 2 vehicles.
Center multimedia display malfunctioning by ghost touching. Without using the commander switch, touch panel, or voice recognition, the screen will scroll through settings, apps, change radio stations, etc. Additionally, it will turn off maps in apple play when the program is in use. There are several complaints and examples of this issue online: [xxx] this concern needs to be addressed because it is safety issue as it is a major distraction for the driver. Service appointment with westcott Mazda on 2/10. Originally brought in 1/28 for appointment, but was advised by Mazda service representative to contact Mazda as car is out of warranty. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I bought this car brand new with 51 miles on it on 7/24 and have taken it to the dealership mechanics twice for the same problem. Within 3 seconds of “letting go” of the steering wheel, the car veers and pulls directly into the right berm. The car requires continuous redirection of the steering wheel to get it to drive straight on. The dealership where I purchased this has not reported this defect to the manufacturer despite me requesting it. The car was inspected prior to me purchasing it, and upon me noticing that it veers off the road, I took it back to the dealership garage (on 7/31) and the mechanics reported that they had rebalanced and realigned the tires. The mechanics also told me they had realigned the front and rear axles and said that they had probably been affected by being strapped down tightly on the delivery truck (?). I picked up the car the same day (7/31) after they said they fixed it, and within 10 miles of leaving the dealership, I noticed that the car continued to pull me off the road to the right. I turned around and returned to the mechanics’ and requested they report this to the manufacturer. The car has remained at the dealership mechanic’s since 7/31. No warning lights or messages have ever shown on the car. I consider this a major safety hazard as the car is constantly and consistently veering either off the road into the berm, or into the right lane if attempting to pass.
The vehicle turned the ac off and started blowing straight hot air into the vehicle after sitting in idle for less than 5 minutes. Which resulted in my dog having a seizure and passing away. There was not a notification on the app or any type of warning for this to happen.
I motor fan is constantly on when driving. It is 32f to 40f here in hampton roads. There is no reason the fan should be on. I have video of the fan running at 29 degrees f. I reported it to my local Mazda 3 times. A person I know in another area reported the same problem and her local Mazda dealer fixed it.
