Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Mazda Cx-7. The contact stated that while the in-laws were driving the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off. Upon inspection it was discovered that oil had leaked under the vehicle and a hole was present on the side of the engine. The cause of the failure was not determined. Mazda's l-series engines are earning a reputation for variable vale timing (vvt) defects that can cause oil leaks, excessive smoke out of the tailpipe, loose timing chains, and catastrophic engine failure. Mazda has acknowledged the vvt problems in a �special service program� but, according to owners, has denied warranty coverage in some cases. Because my vehicle is beyond the extended period Mazda does not feel they have any responsibility to compensate for this repair. It has been reported that this could cause the engine to stop while on the highway creating a dangerous or deadly condition.

I took the car in the have the ac compressor replaced a couple weeks ago. June 9 I lost all cold air and done acceleration. I thought the two were related but we're not. My car would sometimes drive as normal and other times unexpectedly slow down to 25 mph in a 60 mph zone and I couldn't speed up. I took it back to the mechanic. He said the turbo was going out. Then the catalytic converter. Then the gasket. It's had multiple oil leaks. This car is costing me more than its worth.
Takata recall. My complaint is why there has not been a recall on the turbo charger for my vehicle. I was driving my car and the entire cabin filled with smoke that I had to pull off the road. I had to roll down all the windows because the it was so bad and thought the engine was on fire. This is not safe to have this happen. I've googled this and there are many complaints on replacement happening twice. This should be covered because I've kept my maintenance up and just did oil and fluids changed and have to have it done again because the oil leaked into the turbo charger. This is costing me $2,460. 00 for repair and don't think I should have to pay for this fatal problem. I expecting coverage on this and will be contacting my lawyer.
I have a 2007 Mazda cx7 I've seen alot of recalls but one complaint I am constantly seeing is the turbo failure and leaking an indecent amount of oil causing an enviormental hazard. I am in a situation now where my turbo is leaking alot of oil and alot of cx7 owner are getting good their turbos replaced more than three times. I very looked into tears problem and apparently Mazda has came up with a solution that has rerouted the air pressure to the turbo by supplying a venalation kit that costs $2,226 just for parts that's including the turbo and $826 for labor. . I feel that if they have identified the problem they should tell consumers about it if your driving on the freeway and all of a sudden the car looses power it could cause an accident. . . And I have also read that the turbo is a very poor design.
Car had severe oil leak found during an oil change with no oil left in the car; however there was never oil on the ground - I park in the garage. I took the car to the dealer for a diagnostic test, they did the dye test and found the leak near the oil cooler from the seal/gasket. This is a very expensive part and it appears to be very common after 80k miles from my searches online. Please investigate as this is very unsafe and needs to be addressed.

The oil cooler on my 2008 Mazda Cx-7 began leaking around the rubber o-ring a few weeks ago. My mechanic called ferman Mazda in brandon, FL to get a replacement and was advised by the service department that the old style oil cooler had problems and Mazda re-designed a new one, and now Mazda owners have to spend over $400 to buy a new one because the rubber gasket and oil cooler are not manufactured anymore. Oil has covered my engine and the plastic engine cover underneath the vehicle. The heat from the engine can cause a fire if it sprays up near the plugs/starter. There is an obvious problem with the oil cooler, however ferman Mazda does nothing to fix the problem for their customers.
The gasket on the oil coolers on these cars are defective. I have an oil leak from this gasket that puts me at risk for an engine blowout. I will have to replace the entire oil cooler at a cost of $500+ because the gasket can't be purchased separately. Mazda needs to take responsibility for this before people get stranded on the road. If you search this oil leak online, you find dozens of posts about this happening to other Cx-7 owners. This is a crossover SUV geared towards families. I drive my kids around in it and now am very concerned about the safety of this car.
My 2009 Cx-7 has a major oil leak at the oil cooler. Upon learning this I turned to my mechanic and the internet only to find out this seems to be a very common issue. This defect is something that is on every Mazda forum and should be made a recall and fixed. This is a very well maintained vehicle that should not have this type of issue at this mileage.

The contact owns a 2008 Mazda cx7. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, oil was leaking from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The engine oil cooler and engine cover were both repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The failure mileage was unavailable. . . . Updated 04-22-14 the consumer stated the timing chain and vvt actuator was a recall item. The vehicle had not been repaired. Updated 04/28/2014.
I bought the car at 30k miles in November of 2011. I have since driven 15k miles on it. I noticed a click in the engine. I took it to the dealership where they proceeded to tell me that everything was fine and I needed to get a 45k mile maintenance on it. I told them the clicking was bothering me. They said that was fine. I got the car back and the noise appeared to have gone. . . But reappeared after a few days. I went back to the dealership and told them that a car under 5 years old with less than 50k miles on it shouldn't make that noise. They finally admitted there was a problem with the timing chain, causing a leak in the oil which put sludge in the engine. They told me it was my fault etc. I proceeded to look online and there were thousands of other people with the same problem. Complete engine failure at 75,287 miles. Entire engine is burned up, oil changed regularly, no oil leaks, turbo sensor replaced in April 2011 by dealer under extended warranty, engine not covered under warranty in December 2011, cited lack of maintenance even with receipts of oil changes. After researching issue, this is a common problem in Mazda cx7's, and engine failure has been reported in over 2000 cases. Not only is the condition dangerous, as the vehicle just stops running without appropriate warning lights, modern cars do not usually need a new engine at lower mileage. Mazda has sent no notices or letters stating this is a common problem on this model, and has not recommended using synthetic oil or more frequent oil changes.
Mazda using the wrong oil. Recently had the oil changed in my 2008 Mazda Cx-7. When I drove it off the lot the car smoked like crazy. They said they were using the wrong oil so they replaced it with 5w-30 instead of 5w-20. Then car continued to smoke. So next day they put 5w-40 in it. The oil is leaking into the turbo creating a fire hazard.
