1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

I purchased my vehicle in October 2012 with roughly 75k miles. After one week of owning the vehicle I noticed after idling for a few minutes o large plume of fog would come from my exhaust pipe. This has occurred many times now since purchase and the dealers response was that it was due to "winter fuel". The problem was never resolved. On June 26th 2014 I was driving to work. I stop at a red light and when it turned green I proceeded to press the gas. Instantly my car shut off and did nothing. After investigating the issue on the side of the road I determined it to be the timing chain. My issue is that Mazda having knowledge of a failing vvt on these vehicles should have replaced the part before selling this vehicle to me. Now I have a lawn ornament that's costing me thousands of dollars to watch it sit in my driveway.

2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

I was heading west out of denver on interstate 70 when my car completely failed and the engine shut off. I was in the left (passing) lane and was fortunately able to pull into the median to avoid a crash at high speeds. My four-month old son was in the back seat so I was shaken and frightened for his safety, and unable to re-start the vehicle. We were stranded there for an hour waiting for a tow-truck with other cars pushing past us at very high speeds. To add insult to injury, this is a known issue for this make and model of Mazda. The company does not stand behind their vehicles--instead they are discontinuing the Cx-7 b/c of it's poor engineering. They also offered an extended warranty for this issue (up to 70,000 miles so my car is not covered. ) if they were a responsible company they should issue a total recall of this vehicle in order to replace the timing chains. Other problems with this car in the short time I had it (bought it at 53,000 and it has a dead engine at only 76,000) -mysterious electrical problems causing all gauges to go haywire when I accelerated or turned -leaking valves in the transmission (just paid $800 to have that repaired in October) -faulty air conditioning compressor (also extended warranty) basically, this car is a total lemon. If you have one that still runs--beware! if I had been 2 miles farther down the freeway I would have had no where to pull over and would have been stalled dead on the freeway in heavy traffic. . . With young son in the back seat.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Mazda CX-7

Failure Date: 06/11/2011

Driving on the freeway 65 miles per hour, engine shut off. . . Pulled to side of road. Car towed to mechanic. Diagnostic with two quotes timing chain snapped bent valve, need to replace the engine. I have been reviewing forums and have found this is an issue with hundreds of Mazda cx7 2007 models. My car is at the 61,000 miles mark. If so many people are having the exact same issue its no coincidence, thankfully on the day my engine shut down was in the far lane that I could pull over. Someone else with this car might not be so lucky. Mazda needs to recall and start doing something.
