My rpm's reaved up real high while driving 60mph and all the sudden the car down shifted and I had to put car in neutral in order maintain control. The traction control light and heck engine lights came on same time, lost power to the car the navigation and radio and dash lights, had no power to drive train, had vechile dinogstic check done at o'reilly auto and they told me it was a pcm power control module. And I called the Mazda dealer in fostoria ohio the macanhic told me the pcm power control module had been reprogram and I never received no notice on any recalls or the person I bought my car never either. My car is 7 years old and if it war reprogram it should not go bad that soon. Unless there is a problem with there components there using. But my car will cause a accident if I continue to drive it. I like my Mazda6 2015 but I'm afraid after having the car doing what it did to me on the highway. I had no warning lights come on until the day I was driving down the highway when this problem occurred.

: I have a 2005 Mazda 6 wagon bought new off the dealer's lot. 4 years later, in sept. 2009 with 22k miles on it, I was coming off a curving exit ramp when I stepped on the gas to merge into traffic and nothing happened - no pickup - I just started coasting. This happened a few times before in the previous years (maybe 4-5 times), but those times it felt more like a belt slipping and it "caught" again very quickly, like in a split second. The ramp experience was more pronounced and lasted longer, like a full 2 seconds, which was more scary and potentially more hazardous. Turned out the tcm (transmission computer module) had to be replaced. It would have cost $1400+ but luckily I bought an extended warranty when I bought the car so it covered that cost. Its happening again, so I have to take it in to the dealer when I can to get it checked again. Not a good feeling when your trying to merge into traffic and you expect the car to move when you hit the gas, and it moves just enough to get the nose of the car into the lane of travel, then stops dead while cars are bearing down on you. Extremely scary. Hoping this is not a continual recurring event. Update: took the car to the dealer the first week of April and again today, first week of may (the 3rd) 2010 for the exact same problem mentioned above- while driving car just slows down, no power. Step on the gas, nothing. Then it kicks in and hesitantly moves. This is the 3rd or 4th time taken to the dealer for the same problem with the transmission. Getting ticked off about it now. . . . .

Had 30000 mile service done prior to a 1000 mile one way vacation trip. After arriving at our destination washed car at coin car wash. Drove car for about 10 minutes and engine began surging, transmission would not move from second gear, and vehicle speed would not exceed 20 mph. Exited roadway and parked vehicle overnight. At engine startup vehicle ran fine but with engine light on. Drove 60 miles and vehicle suffered complete shutdown on freeway. Vehicle coasted to a safe stop and called Mazda roadside. Vehicle would not even turn over. Vehicle towed to dealership, ignition coil and pcm were replaced. Dealer approved vehicle for 1000 mile return trip. After only 4 hours of driving engine light came on again. Exited interstate, parked vehicle and called Mazda roadside. Vehicle currently under repair. This was two identical failures within 200 miles of use.
Consumer says he is having problem with transmission. Transmission will drop gears on its own, consumer just had vehicle at dealer for transmission slippage and harsh shifting. Consumer said that dealer did a software calibration on the transmission control module. Consumer says now when he is traveling on highway and consumer tries to accelerate transmission will drop from 4th gear to 3rd gear by itself and this makes acceleration very difficult. While driving vehicle in city consumer says that transmission will drop from 4th to 2nd while trying to accelerate. Consumer notices which gear by the indicator light located on dash. Consumer says that slippage and harsh shifting is now corrected, but he is having problem with transmission dropping gears. Consumer says he has an email that he somehow come into position of, this email is from Ford and says that there is a problem with this transmission in other vehicles as well as same type as consumer. Consumer says that this problem began yesterday morning and dropped gears like this about 30 times in 24 hours. Consumer says that the malfunction took part mostly yesterday and this morning in south field, mi. Consumer says that he drove as much in the city as he did on the highway yesterday and this morning.
The transmission in my 2003 Mazda 6s has failed on me 2 times in 2 years at the most diffucult times. . . Finals week at college and aslo during a busy time of work. The dealership has ackknowledgewd the problem and reprogrammed the computer system. Still the car had problems immidieatley after that visit, the transmission failed. They replaced the transmission with a new one, it too had the same problems. . . They acknowledged the situation and were unable to diagnose the problem. They told me that my car already had the upgraded computer program that is supposed to fix the erratic shifting. And that I should return if it gets worse. When it did, the technician drove it and now knows what it is doing, but he too said he doesn't know how to fix the problem if no check engine lights are coming on. . . . Thats the other problem. The check engine light don't come on when the car does it, but further more they don't even come on when the transmission fails completely! I am worried that this car has a major problems that will only get worse and adversley affect other components. Which it already has. . . They rack and pinion went out and almost caused me to wreck into a city bus, the subframe was installed too tight and caused the car to squeak and rattle, the brakes have a chatter that has been addressed and have been replaced twice. But most of al all of these things have happened in the first 2 years (20 months. ) the original transmission issue was addressed at 12,000 miles and has since by my opinion been the cause of the other related problems. Also the car sits an inch and a quarter lower on the passenger front than the driver front. Causing the rear to also be uneven.
There is something wrong with the transmission as if it does not know which gear it sould be in. There is a sevre bucking from 1st into 2nd gear where the tires chirp and the car jumps. This happens under light throtle and it happens alot. It could be a problem with the pcm or ecu or the transmission itself. I have never had a car that has done this. When you spend 25k on a car you would expect quality but not with the 6.
