My 2004 Mazda 6 was demonstrating a racing engine/problematic automatic transmission and shifting issues (the tachometer was fluttering and racing) as I was braking on a major road from 40 mph to a stop at a red light. The car would not slow. I manually shifted down from 4th to 3rd, and it still exhibited the same 'bouncing' revs on above 2000 rpm. As I applied my brakes the car was definitely hesitating to downshift and wasn't slowing well; I put it back into automatic "d" shifting and pressed firmly on the brakes to try to slow the vehicle. I halted very close to the next car in the line despite having started braking well before I needed to safely come to a stop in the vehicle. In first gear at a stop, the tach was fluttering from 1000 to 1800 (well outside the normal idle range of 900-1100) until I put the car in park, engaged the parking brake, and shut the vehicle off. When I restarted it seemed to be okay but it has done this on several occasions.

2003 Mazda6 6. 0 atx - car suddenly loses power while accelerating. The engine revs but no power to wheels. I have contacted local dealer without any resoulution to why this is occuring. Upon a brief internet search I find this is not an isolated case. I have noticed it happens more often with ac unit on.

While traversing an intersection my Mazda 6's idle climbed to 3000 rpm without shifting. In order not to stress the engine I was forced to drive at a maximum of 15 mph and being on a highway with no parking or emergency shoulder I was frightened that I would become involved in or cause an accident. I was fortunate enough that neither occured and I was able to get to safety. Upon investigating I discovered that this problem is not covered under any sort of manufacturers warranty and is the subject matter of many online discusion forums. It appears that this problem is all too common. I believe that it is in the interst of civic duty for the maunufacturer to be held responsible for the replacement of a part that is defective and could potentially pose a great traffic safety risk.

Potential rear end collision: I own a 2006 Mazda 6 VIN [xxx]. I have experienced frequent times when I have accelerated onto the highway (or any other need to avoid a collision) and have experienced a severe loss of power/acceleration. This could have easily resulted in a rear-end collision had the cars behind me not reacted immediately. I have notified the local dealership and "Mazda customer satisfaction" of this problem and was told that my vehicle is "out of warranty. I also found that Mazda has issued a TSB #05-016-06 that explains the potential cause. Mazda is aware of this problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2005 Mazda 6s 3 liter v6 with automatic transmission (aisin warner). Application of throttle to accelerate in 5th or 6th gear causes jerk, selects neutral then eventually selects an appropriate gear. Very dangerous on uphill freeways due to sudden loss of any power. Mazda has a service bulletin on this # 05-016/06 that proves this condition is not isolated.

The Mazda 6 jerks when shifting from 1st gear to second. Did this a couple times while in traffic almost causing an accident. It feels like the car is hesitant to shift and then shifts and jerks you forward when there are possibly other cars in front and you need to stop. I brought the car in multiple times to the dealer and they "could not replicate the problem".
Shift shock when the automatic transmission changes gears. This is an intermittent, ongoing occurrence. Mazda has issued a "technical service bulletin (TSB)" (#05-005/05) to the dealers to repair this using a "flashing" of the computer system. Warranty won't cover it because it involves the computer. It should be a recall item. The TSB states that the concern is caused by driven plate deformation due to a rapid rise in temperature in the 2-4 brake driven plate when repeated shifting is done with a cold engine. In part, it also states the logic has been changed to prevent an abnormal rise in 2-4 brake driven plate temperature. I have a copy of the bulletin and can fax if needed.
The vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission. When the vehicle was parked for over 8 hours outdoors in direct sunlight, the vehicle would not shift out of park. Failure occurs only on extremely hot days - temperatures over 95 degrees and only when all the windows & sunroof were completely closed. Vehicle was allowed to sit with the engine running and air conditioner on high for roughly 15-20 minutes. When interior temperature of car lowered, the car was able to shift out of park. The problem replicated sporadically but on at least 10 different occasions over the course of 2 years. The vehicle was brought to dealership on numerous occasions where they were unable to replicate the problem. During one service visit a mechanic cleaned the microswitch responsible for the shift interlock. That did not remediate the problem.
I purchased a 2009 Mazda6 on 3/26/2009. Four days after the purchase the new vehicle was in the shop to replace the automatic transmission. The automatic transmission casting had a small weep hole in it which was causing a leak. Dealer had to replace the automatic transmission. For the first 4 weeks I owned the car it was in the garage for 3 weeks.

2009 Mazda 6 I touring at makes an intense buzzing vibration sound after shifting to drive at first ignition of the day before any acceleration. The vibration comes from the center cupholders in the front, which in turn is from the automatic transmission itself. This is a recurring issue from day one.
Mazda sedan6 purchased 05/2007- current mileage 2800- discovered oil leak at engine rear main seal. Service mgr offered to correct problem. Oil leak not noticeable-oil dropping on under engine shield and coagulating. Low mileage might indicate problem existed at time of manufacture. If so, replacement of vehicle is proper action on part of manufacturer/seller.
I was driving my well-maintained 2002 Mazda mpv (odo 66,000miles) on the freeway at 65 mph, when all of a sudden it was as if it was shifted into neutral. Had car towed to an independent repair facility, which diagnosed failed transmission. Had it towed to Mazda dealer, who corroborated the diagnosis, and put in a remanufactured transmission. Cost to $3,546. 09. Doesn't seem right; I'm very upset. I asked for the old part, but they told me I would have to pay the "core charge", which I declined.

Mazda USA Mazda mpv 2002 dear sirs: I own a Mazda mpv 2002 model which has been having minor sporadic trouble for some time. Between 1500 and 1800 rpm it would sometimes jerk and sputter and then it would settle down and continue. I've taken this to two different dealers during routine scheduled service and they said that couldn't find anything until the engine light came on. Well after several months of this, finally the engine light came on , I replaced the coils 1,2,3 I noticed an improvement but eventually the problem recurred and was told to replace the remaining 3 coils plus a hose. Four days after leaving the shop on a trip of 50 miles the engine lost power on a highway creating a dangerous condition for my family. After having it towed to the same dealership. I was told it was unrelated and that I needed to replace the transmission to the tune of $3400 after having already spent $1200.
Occasionally car will not come out of park, took itto dealer twice for service. The first time they replaced a switch, second time could not find a problem. Dealer service center recommended to use e-brake when parking, and this wa s normal if parking on a incline. Problem got worse, from analyzing the problem myself, determined that the incline or e-brake had no relation. The problem occurred during a very hot day when leaving work. Determined that if it jerked shifted it back and forth about 10 times, when I heard a click, at that time. I could move the shift lever out of park.
2000 Mazda 626 - automatic transmission - 52k miles 1) no reverse - one time incident in may, moved it forwarded and ran through the other gears and then it went into reverse. . . So didn't think much of it. In late September, it happened again. Frequency increased over next month. No pattern. . . Hot, cold, dry, wet, etc. 2) I now have no reverse most of the time, though still intermittent 3) took to aamco. . . It's not electrical, needs total overhaul for $2k 6 year old car with only 52k miles, not driven hard. . . Shouldn't have these problems. I had a 1987 Mazda 626 that had the same issue at 11 years old.
After a modest acceleration to pull into traffic, I had to stop suddenly due to a light and the car began to rev up to 1500 and back down over and over. I had to pull over immediately where it continued to rev and die down, regardless if I was in a gear or park. It is an automatic. I turned off the car and restarted, the problem went away but the engine light remained on for two days. I plan on taking to the dealer. It is only 7 months old, I bought it new.
2002 Mazda 626 with 37000 miles. Had a new transmission about Aug, 2004. Started having shifting problems about six months ago. Nelson Mazda in nashville, TN told us someone filled the fluid too high when we had our oil changed. Even though it was obvious something was wrong, and we were only 2 weeks out of our warranty, they would do nothing but "adjust the fluid". This week it started shifting bad and before the day was up it would not go into reverse. We took it to a local trustworthy garage who said the trans. Fluid was "burned to a crisp" and needed a new transmission again. Nelson Mazda will do nothing to help. Nothing. A car should not need have a second bad transmission in 3 1/2 years and 37000 miles.
I have a 2002 Mazda millenia purchased new from koons Mazda 9-17-2002. In August of 2005 I returned to koons to have a headlamp replaced. Less than two weeks later I noticed the projection of my headlamps were aimed in the direction of the sky. The next morning I noticed both headlamps were laying in the engine compartment. I returned tokoons only to be told that it would cost me $700. 00 per hedlamp assy. I have tried numerous times to get Mazda corporate consumer affairs to repair this problem but they have declined. Im told my car is out of warrenty. Because the heat generated by the headlamps and the exposure to other components in the engine compartment it could start a fire. Then the problem with the traction control system, that activates if I'm doing 55mph on the beltway'it causes the car to sputter and jerk . This is a bad weather device designed to aid when weather conditions are bad. This failure just started in December. I only have 60k miles on the car.
Engine needed to be replaced twice within less than 5 1/2 yrs. Transmission needed to be replaced within 6yrs. Brakes needed to be replaced every year and a half. Interior cheaply made. All part on this vehicle are plastic and brake very easy. Motor mounts needed to be replace within 4 yrs. This vehicle is a owners nightmare . I would never recommended anyone to purchase this car. Repairs cost more than the car is worth. Engine repair $6000. 00, motor mounts $900, transmission $2400-$4800, brakes $400, and the cost goes on. (lemon).
My car has had all of it's routine maintenance done. At 30k I had to replace the transmission at 20 I had to replace the alternator. At 60k I have had to replace the transmission again! at 60k I had to replace a transaxle something or another . Now at 66k it is doing all of the same things that it was doing before the transmissions went out, and it's because "I need a new air filter, spark plugs, and fuel filter" the car jerks very hard when slowing down on the freeway the rpm race, like it won't gear down. When I put it in park it's as if I am pressing the gas pedal down and revving the engine. But the car is in park, and there is no pressure on the gas pedal what so ever! I hate this car, and recommend no one to buy one! I will be voicing my opinion of the car in the car windows, and telling everyone I know about the poor quality of this car. You would think that paying 27k for a vehicle that it would last!.
Vehicle design problem that could easily result in fatality. 2004 Mazda 6s. This is the transmission that can either be run as full automatic or as a semi manual shift. When in a passing situation with the throttle fully open, the engine jumps into action and the transmission down shifts as it should. However, if the gas pedal is kept pressed down as in a passing situation, the transmission will not up shift at any point. The result is that the engine rpms will increase to the point of hitting the red line. At that point another feature shuts down the engine until the rpms are significantly below the red line. The result is loss of power at the most critical time in the passing maneuver. I was able to brake and return to the previous place behind the vehicle being passed, but almost did not make it. Had I been much further forward I would certainly have collided with the oncoming traffic. I have contacted my local dealership and took it in for service. They tested it, talked with appropriate Mazda service center experts and reported that there was no malfuntion - all setting were as they were supposed to be. I corresponded with north american Mazda via email (attached) and forwarded that email string to your technical information service at tis@NHTSA. Dot. Gov. Mazda continues to say that niether design defect or malfunction exists. To them it is an operator problem. If so, anyone accustomed to the automatic transmissions in all other cars will find themselves in the same position, unaware of the potential. All other transmissions that I have experience with up shift at either a certain speed or vacuum level well before the engine can get to dangerous rpms.
Violent shifting from 1st to 2nd gear in the Mazda6s with automatic transmission. Feels as if the car has been hit by another vehicle from the rear. Front tires momentarily lose traction and chirp sometimes. These violent shifts only happen during mild accelleration.
The "new" vehicle had 900 unexplained mile on it upon purchase. Within 4 months the check engine light came on and the vehicle kicks back when changing gears. Took to dealer in pennsylvania, was advised that needed knock sensor replaced, but they did not have part. Took the vehicle to dealer in virginia, did not look at it, although I told them what other dealership said, and told them there was a recall on it. Took to different dealership and was advised that there are 2 recalls, and they were fixed. Now the fan races minutes after the vehicle is off. Also, the vehicle seems to be lacking in power despite the engine is 220 horse power.
While driving at any speed consumer heard a loud knocking noise coming from the rear. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to dealer for inspection. However, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
The engine light and transmission light indicated a problem to me, as well as the car jerking upon acceleration. After taking the car to the dealer for service it was determined that knock sensor had malfunctioned. Since the first visit to the dealership for service regarding this problem, it has happened 5 times. I have contacted my dealer and the manufacturer and am still dealing with this issue. My dealer has made no attempt to rectify the situation other than replacing the engine sensor over and over. The car was out of commision for over a week each time. I have gone to the dealer asking for their help in contacting Mazda about a new engine and or car and they are completly uncooperative.
From the day I drove my new 2002 mpv home the transmission mis-shifted and bucked. I called the dealer the following day and they told me that "the transmission computer was learning my driving habits and it would go away. After 3 months the problem persisted and began stalling at lights. I took the car in and they said they could find no problem. When I asked them what they needed to repair the problem they said that there were no computer upgrades for the transmission and I would have to wait until there were. A year passed and it continued to buck and stall. I took the car in again and told them I thought it was a "lemon" and I wanted it repaired. They took the car and "fixed it" but it has continued to mis shift regularly. At around 25,000 miles the engine light came on and a diagnostic test revealed it needed new plugs. After replacing the plugs it appeared to run less erratically. It now has 65,000 miles on it and a diagnostic test reveals that the #5 cylinder coil is out. Apparently each spark plug has its own coil. I have ordered the coil and am waiting to see what problem will come up next. In oct 2005 Mazda sent out a voluntary laboratory emission testing form. Since they wanted the vehicle for 2 weeks and I already didn't trust there competency I declined the offer. Nevertheless, this told me that they must be having emission problems as well. I cannot believe there has been no recall on this vehicle from the manufacturer or a government required recall. The dealer never fixed the problem from day one, the car is now out of warranty and now I have no recourse. I have lost all confidence in Mazda. I will be contacting some attorneys about a class action lawsuit. It seems like it will take a fatality on a freeway from a failed transmission before Mazda or the government will look into this!.
