36 Power Train problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 11/17/2016

At around 9000 miles my 2016 Mazda 6 grand touring with tech pkg. Automatic is having transmission delays. When the car stop and the gear lever moved into neutral(n), reverse (r), and park (p) then back to drive (d). It has a 4-5 seconds delay before the gearbox being engaged. Also at 60+ mph cruising on freeways, when step deeper into the gas pedal to increase speed for overtake the transmission has a choke, felt like the gear was forced into place.

37 Power Train problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 09/07/2016

Around 7,000 miles, I began noticing that my car was not shifting properly or smoothly. Initially, I thought that it may have been something that I was doing. Upon shifting the car from park to drive/reverse, the car would lull for a moment, and then suddenly shoot into gear. At first, this was minor. As time as gone on, it has become more frequent and more intense; in one incident, the shift was so intense that my car actually "peeled" out. After reading about the experience from others on recall. Gov, I took my car to my dealership to get examined & hopefully find some type of solution. The service department told me to "have someone stand outside of my car and video record" the car doing this. I explained that it is random and that I could not possibly have someone with me at all times to record this. Their response then was for me (as the driver) to record this on my own phone. I didn't even begin to address their suggestion or the safety concern of that. My fear is that my car is going to shift or accelerate so intensely that I hit something, or worse case, someone.

38 Power Train problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 09/02/2016

Car does not turn off after pushing start/stop button. Engines turns off but battery, radio etc stays on. Gear is on park and e brake is up. Read other forums where many other people are having the same issue. An immediate fix is to jiggle the gear and then push the button again. The gear seems to be loose or the ignition switch unit is faulty according to research online. Car is parked and seems to be happening more often. Started happening about 3 years after purchased brand new.

39 Power Train problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 04/21/2016

My car is automatic transmission. When I would release the brakes after stopping at an intersection, the car would not immediately go into first gear. It would sit at the intersection and then suddenly jerk into first gear. I would drive normally after that. Dealer reports I have a defective transmission and they are replacing under warranty.

40 Power Train problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

My brand new Mazda 6 with only 6000 miles transmission quit on 3/21/16. The cars gears wouldn't engage until the rpms would hit 3000 and then the car would lurch forward. The dealer has ordered a new transmission. This seems to be a common issue with Mazda 6 and Mazda cx-5. A recall needs to be issued. This is a major safety issue. Someone could have rear ended me or I could have caused an accident. The dealer said this is the first they have heard of this but there have been 100s of reports about this. Mazda needs to issue a statement and recall before someone gets hurt.

41 Power Train problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

Vehicle will not crank with transmission in park, must be shifted to neutral. This is a safety concern as the vehicle may move unintentionally while starting in neutral. When the shifter is placed in park, the transmission is mechanically in park and the vehicle does not roll. The dashboard shifter position indicator does not highlight "p" though when in park, and thus the vehicle does not crank. To start the vehicle, I have to have foot on the brake, press start/stop, move shifter to neutral, then press start/stop button to crank engine. Unintended roll away risk since vehicle is started in neutral.

42 Power Train problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

Upon turning on my car (flat surface, middle of the day, already driven that morning), I received an at failure notice, master warning light, scbs failure notice, and a check engine light. The car had been seen 5 days prior for a routine oil change and inspection. All marks were noted as "green. " the engine sounded fine, the shifting of the transmission smooth, and no issues were seen/felt/heard/noticed as of yet. The dealer refused to run a diagnostics test as it is a Saturday.

43 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

For it having so few miles 60k and having been serviced with synthetic transmission oil, this car shift hard from first and second at regular temperature. On cold starts car shift harder and at times turns off or losses power.

45 Power Train problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

Engine overheated while driving in a straight line in traffic at low speed with temperature in the 80's. The engine block cracked as a result. The engine and the complete cooling fan assembly had to be replaced. The engine temperature had risen high on several occasions before this, while idling, driving at low speeds, and driving at moderate and highway speeds, temperatures ranging from 50's to 90's. When the overheating occurred the air conditioning also failed to function properly. I had complained to the dealership about this issue and they claimed it was a fuse. They replaced the fuse, but it did not resolve the issue.

48 Power Train problem of the 2003 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

Transmission kicks really hard making the car feel like it was hit from behind. The car is hard to control at the time this happens. I've seen numerous complaints about this. It is a serious problem, especially when our 90lb daughter is driving this vehicle. I feel that Mazda needs to take care of this issue before someone is injured or worse!.

50 Power Train problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

After driving my Lincoln mkz, where pressing the ignition stop button automatically puts the car in park, I drove my friend's 2014 Mazda6. I pressed the ignition stop button but exited the vehicle without putting it in park. I did not notice any warning that the car had been turned off and exited without being in park. The car, although stationary when we left it, ended up rolling into another car in the parking lot. My initial estimate is that the total damage will exceed $5,000 to both cars. If this car had had an ignition key, I would have been forced to put it in park as I removed the key. Please consider requiring a voice warning that car has been turned off and/or exited without being in park. I think our 2014 Lincoln mkz puts itself in park if you exit the vehicle.

51 Power Train problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

This incident has happened about 10 - 15 times in the 6 months I have had this car. It occurs when the vehicle is stopped at a traffic signal, stuck in traffic, or any other time when the transmission is in drive and the brake is used to keep the vehicle stationary. The engine will be turning at idle speed when suddenly it revs to 4-5k rpm causing the car to leap forward, overpowering the brake. This has almost resulted in a crash several times as suddenly the car moves forward rapidly. I have noticed a small tendency for this to occur in the first few minutes of driving but it has happened anytime. I have seen no correlation to outside temperature. I have noticed perhaps a small increase in frequency when the car is stopped after high speed driving such as highway driving.

52 Power Train problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

The vehicle started to decelerate while driving without any type of notice. The dealership found out the valve board in the transmission needed to be replaced. The process took 3 weeks to repair since the valve board was on back order due to high demand. The vehicle was repaired but there is still a delay when accelerating at certain speeds. The dealership has yet to find out what is causing the current issue that my vehicle is having.

53 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Driving normally, transmission gets struck in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or fourth gear. Sometimes transmission will downshift very, very hard.

54 Power Train problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

Tl * the contact owns a 2009 Mazda 6. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle accelerated and decelerated intermittently. The contact mentioned that the automatic transmission warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available and the current mileage was 31,000.

55 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA6

56 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Kept put its self in gear which is a safety mode !!! so I went to change the battery and smelled something burning and the fuse for the radio was blown and every time I went to change the fuse it would blow. So I took it to the shop to see what was wrong and they had to replace the radio some wiring alternator was putting out 17 volts and burned out the wiring!!! this is a common problem with this car and should be covered!!!.

57 Power Train problem of the 2003 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

I purchased a 2003 Mazda 6 about a month ago, and I have had the hard shifting problems and the temp gauge going up to high all the time and floating back down. I was not informed of this and other recalls of this model and I have been denied to get the problem fixed. The dealer where I bought it said they flashed it a couple times but it is not stated o n my repair receipt. I feel that I am driving a dangerous car and something needs to be done!!!! I am not going to keep driving this car and I feel I can take it back because my first payment is not due yet. Be it said that this car has been in the shop 4 times since day one! they still will not fix it and it is under warranty. This is a rip off and this model is unsafe and these models should be taken off of the market!!!.

58 Power Train problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that there was a recurring failure with the transmission. The transmission wiring had burned out, causing the fourth gear to fail. The vehicle was repaired twice for the same failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 130,000.

59 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

When the car is accelerating shift shock occurs when shifting from gear 3 to 4. It doesn't always occur when the transmission is cold, but is inevitable as the transmission warms. As time goes on the shift shock occurs under less and less of a load due to the wearing of a part in the transmission. The only way to fix the issue is to purchase a new transmission. When purchasing the transmission you have to make sure you get a transmission that has been redesigned, otherwise the issue will happen again. We talked to a Mazda master mechanic that said Mazda knows about the issue and even went as far as changing the way the transmission was made so the problem wouldn't continue. They obviously know the issue is their fault if they changed the design of the transmission, but will not issue a recall and own up to their mistake. From what we understand, the problem is with the housing of the transmission. This means you have no choice but the replace the entire transmission. Mazda made a mistake in their engineering, but will not admit the mistake. We may not buy another Mazda because of this.

60 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

The transmission seems to lock up and rev at a high rate, then the cars bucks and either engages at a lower gear or you have to slow to a crawl before the transmission engages. This has happened at low speed and traveling on the interstate with traffic all around, including a semi-truck right behind my vehicle. This is a definite problem and safety hazard.

61 Power Train problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

Incident 2005 Mazda 6 broke down along side road. Engine only had 40,000 miles on it. Called Mazda service manager, bob, and he told me to have it towed there and he'd take care of me. I was later told the engine blew but as his crew looked at it they verified that the engine and oil was clean. He said he'd call regional and see what he could do for me to get the engine repaired/replaced. Damage resulting after several weeks of run around I was finally told it was going to cost $90 for the service team to have looked at the engine. I was then informed that he could put a salvaged engine in for $4000. I about freaked out. $4000 for a used engine that came with a mere 90 day warranty. I called Mazda headquarters and was told I should've bought an extended warranty. I told her she was crazy that no car costing over $20,000 should blowing engines with a mere 40,000. I then asked if Mazda would help out by paying for service or the engine or at least half so that I could get the car back working. She told me that bob offered me a great deal and I had refused him. I told her what he offered and $4000 for a used engine plus other parts as needed didn't sound like a good deal to me at all. I asked her if it was her car if she would not expect Mazda to stand behind their product and assist? she told me that Mazda stands behind their products and I should've purchased the extended warranty. After reviewing the internet I see Mazda 6 engines seem to have alot of loss of oil/blow out problems. Always thought Mazda was a good company. . . But I know I'll never purchase another and I'll make sure everyone I speak with hears first hand of my experience with the vehicle, the dealers run around and the arrogance at Mazda hq in California.

62 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 12/02/2010

Potential rear end collision: I own a 2006 Mazda 6 VIN [xxx]. I have experienced frequent times when I have accelerated onto the highway (or any other need to avoid a collision) and have experienced a severe loss of power/acceleration. This could have easily resulted in a rear-end collision had the cars behind me not reacted immediately. I have notified the local dealership and "Mazda customer satisfaction" of this problem and was told that my vehicle is "out of warranty. I also found that Mazda has issued a TSB #05-016-06 that explains the potential cause. Mazda is aware of this problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

63 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 06/24/2010

Placed our 2008 Mazda 6 in reverse, the steering wheel locked up, the brake pedal would not engage and car rolled back into a telephone pole, causing moderate damage to rear of vehicle. No warning of any previous failures.

64 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

2007 Mazda6 with "noise" in the front end, many people with same problem reporting online. The noise, a clunking, has been there since the car was new, but at 45k it became worse, where one could hear it constantly upon turning the wheel/braking. Like front end was falling off. Now the dealer says it is the rotating arms in the front and that it is not dangerous to drive it this way with the constant groaning while one turns the wheel. Also, online folks said they had thicker grease put into the steering column (which was extremely loose all the time). The dealer did put the grease in and now the steering is a little stiffer and better, but the noise in the front end continues. What began with a new car having a small "clunk" with the turn of the steering wheel, has become a full blown issue. People online all have repeated my exact complaint on this car. We all wonder, "is it really safe" to drive? warranties are of course gone, though power train warranty still in effect, (car not yet three years old, but exceeding mileage for warranty ) Mazda will not honor their power train warranty, even though' the rotating arms are connected to it. As with most people complaining online, Mazda replaced my brakes --I paid out 800 today and 250 for a rental car. Certainly, based on all of us consumers having the exact same complaint, something should be done to reel in Mazda to do what is right with these cars. (see online blogs for investigation). Thank you.

65 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 08/04/2008

Mazda sedan6 purchased 05/2007- current mileage 2800- discovered oil leak at engine rear main seal. Service mgr offered to correct problem. Oil leak not noticeable-oil dropping on under engine shield and coagulating. Low mileage might indicate problem existed at time of manufacture. If so, replacement of vehicle is proper action on part of manufacturer/seller.

66 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 07/19/2008

The issue has been ongoing, but originally started in the summer of 2008 (car had roughly about 42,000 or so miles on it). Initially the car would increase the rpm up to 7000r in 5th gear (going to 6th) and then decrease causing it to do a hard jerk (someone else described it as being rear ended and that's exactly what it feels like). I took my car to the Mazda dealership in marlow heights, MD (while it was still under warranty) and the service person and I went for a drive (I was driving) he told me that he didn't notice anything off about it so I went back home. Fast forward to 2013 (the problem persisted through the entire time) when I took the car the the arlington Mazda dealership. This is where they did a test drive on it and came to the conclusion that my car's transmission is going bad (the car had about 49,604 or so miles on it). To date, the vehicle (which now has 58,360 miles on it) has trouble picking up speed is extremely laggy and in 5th to 6th gear will pull a hard jerk before it catches up with itself. I agree with the other owners who have this problem. Mazda needs to recall and replace the transmission because there's clearly a safety issue. After all, if another vehicle is following too closely behind the vehicle(s) having this issue they are going to undoubtedly be involved in a serious collision and there probably will be a fatality. Please note: I included the mileage the car has so that those considering purchasing this car will know they may not have long to enjoy it before they have a really dangerous and expensive problem on their hands.

67 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 05/30/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Mazda 6. While driving various speeds, the clutch would shift automatically into neutral and the engine revved. After a few seconds, the gear would forcefully shift into any gear without warning. The failure occurred more often while on inclines or when the vehicle was in fourth, fifth, or sixth gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was still under warranty at the time. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

68 Power Train problem of the 2002 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 07/26/2006

On Mazda mpv minivan 2002- over/drive off light blinks, and car bucks as it tries to shift. If I shift it manually from 2nd to 3rd, and then drive the light will go off, and it will start to shift properly again when put in drive. Mazda service wants to charge me $3600. 00 dollars to replace transmission, when it is probably a faulty sensor.
