1 Steering Noise problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

I called Ford after the "power steering assist fault" light came on and the vehicle could not turn. It was parallel parked along side a street, and I was only able to put the car in drive and move forward and backward. The wheel was making loud, grunting noises and shaking profusely. I looked up and found that there had been a recall for Mercury Mariner 2008 models for the same issue. I called and spoke with oliver hogg, a service consultant at lindsay Ford of wheaton and discussed that there was a recall and that it seemed to be exactly what was happening with my vehicle. He told me it would be covered by Ford if that was the issue, if not, I would have to cover the cost and diagnostic. The diagnostic report stated, "c/s steering is making noise and display reads steering assist fault--towed in. Can for codes (b2278 steering shaft torque sensor fault (found steering hard and column motor chatter). Replace steering column assembly (part #cl8z3c529d) (found steering hard and column motor chatter). Lindsay Ford of wheaton quoted me $2,385. 18 for the listed issues. He said my VIN number wasn't covered under the recall, and there was not an extended warranty on the parts, so I was out of luck. I find this completely unacceptable, after learning of all of the other Mercury Mariners of 2008 to have the same issue, and even with the recall. This is unsafe, and a product of Ford manufacturing, and should be resolved within Ford motor company.

3 Steering Noise problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

A malfunction of the electric power steering, I cant steer my vehicle. It is difficult to steer and control the vehicle. I was driving and the steering start wobbling and making noise vibrating and the steering go real stiff. I called the recall department they told me it was a recall on the torque sensor or pscm July 2014 to take it to the dealer to get approval to let them know , I did they checked it out said it was the torque sensor, called Ford to get approval because it was on the recall list, was denied. I don't understand you said if this problem shows a history loss of the torque sensor signal or fail codes relating to the pscm when I brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced free of charge. You told me the recall was July 2014 and at that time you reset the pscm and cluster module. That didnot fix the problem only put a bandaid on the real problem. I did not own my vehicle in 2014. This is happening again. After the first recall. Another recall. Why wont you fix it my arms shoulder neck and head are injured because you will not fix what is a part that consistantly break down or malfunction that's happening over and over. It should be set for another recall. This could not be happening only to me. Driving on city streets in motion with bad steering issues.
