Past 30 days while driving heard warning chime lasting about 2 seconds. No message visible on dashboard. On 12/18 while parking car warning chime and message "power steering assist failure. " steering assist completely failed. Was able to drive car home (about 2 miles) - with difficulty when driving at low speed. Searched the web and found that others experienced the same issue and there is a recall for some cars of my year and model dealing with exactly this problem. I called my dealership and am awaiting a call from their service department (I had the a/c system serviced on Nov 11 that appears unrelated). If this is not covered by the recall - it should be. The steering is so difficult without the assist that higher speed would almost certainly have led to a crash. Right now, the car is not driveable.

Jerking back and forth of steering wheel would occur occasionally until power steering assistance failed. Power steering assist fault code would come on every so often . I was driving down the highway while the code came on and didn't notice any difference in steering difficulty until I parked the car and shut the engine off then back on. Power steering is completely failing now resulting in increased force to get the car to turn.

My power steering failed and although Ford recalled 900,000 08 marniners my wasnt one of them and isnt covered.
Power steering failed while making a right turn from a city street into a parking lot at approximately 10mph. I responded to Ford/Mercury's initial recall several years ago, taking the to midway Ford (roseville mn). They claimed to have performed whatever was required to address the power steering recall. Admittedly, I was unsure what this required at the time. Several months later, the power steering went out. I was unaware this could possibly have related to the initial recall. After I paid for a diagnosis at the same dealer, I was told they needed to replace the entire steering column. I obtained a second opinion from a local mechanic who remedied the issue by putting in a new battery. New battery in, power steering returned. Now, two years later, the power steering suddenly failed yet again. There were no warning lights, just a sudden and complete loss of power steering. It's clear whatever "fix" the dealership did when I took it in after receiving the recall notice did not address whatever the persistent issue is with the power steering. I know this now after reading *dozens* of similar complaints. I also see from reading these complaints that the dealer will surely not cover the cost of a fix at this time, by claiming the recall issue was addressed previously - which, it's apparent it was not. I'm done with Ford autos after this experience. This is unjust and unsafe.
Ford reprogrammed computer, was supposed to fix the problem. Driving vehicle and power steering assist failure occurred.

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. While backing out of the driveway, the power steering suddenly failed and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering torque sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the local dealer (dana Ford, 266 w. Service, staten island, NY) who indicated that the vehicle was serviced in October of 2014 per NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The contact indicated that the same failure listed in the recall had occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 97,000.
I was driving down the street and went to turn a corner and my power steering went out completely. I have a message that pops up every time I start my car that says power steering assist failure. I have found a recall on this issue but the dealership says my VIN isn't included in the recall. My vehicle was produced 02/2010 which falls in the time frame of the recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 mercuy Mariner. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized when turned in either direction due to an electric power steering failure. Sawgrass Ford (14501 w sunrise blvd, sunrise, FL 33323, (954) 851-9000) diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as listed in the recall. The manufacturer also indicated that the vehicle was excluded from the recall campaign and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,941.
On October 18, 2018 I received the power steering assist failure error on my instrument panel when turning on my vehicle. I had driven it earlier in the day without issue. Previously I had the occasional warning noise and quick flash of an error (too quick for me to read all the way) and would have momentary difficulty turning. This issue makes it almost impossible to steer the vehicle. Research indicates that it is most likely a malfunctioning torque sensor. I reached out to Ford after learning of recalls for the 2009 model year. I was informed that my VIN was not included in the recall. Ford was unwilling to assist with the cost of repairs in any way. Their suggestion was to keep the receipt on the slim chance that the recall would be expanded. This is unacceptable. Had I been on a highway when this occurred it could have been fatal to myself or others. This repair will cost in the neighborhood of $1000 or more. I will need to have the work done at a dealership to ensure the repair is done correctly and that Ford won't give me reimbursement issues should the recall be expanded. This occurred less than a year after the fuel inlet valve failed on the vehicle, causing it to shut down while driving and rendering it unable to be started. The rear hatch has not been able to be opened for over three years because of an issue with the latch. I have had issues with the climate control system and well. There were issues with air conditioning when I purchased the vehicle (April 2015). The issues were not apparent previous to purchase because of the weather at the time. Within a month the weather warmed up. When I attempted to use the a/c it was only blowing hot air. The dealership was willing to fix the issue free of charge because of the circumstances. However, the issue is occurring again even after having an a/c recharge performed.

While driving approximately 15 mph and making a right turn, the power steering suddenly failed and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. Eleventh st, niles, mi) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced in February of 2015 per NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 160,000.

My 2008 Mariner had a recall for power steering default sensor. I was told by Ford that the issue was recalibrated in the originial recall before I purchased the car the power steering failed again Ford will not fix it they did not change the part to solve the problem originially they just reset it on the computer. It is extremly hard to turn, but I need the vehicle for work. Got repair quotes as high as $1500 to repair, money I do not have.
Power steering assist failure on dash. Making things difficult to turn in low speed turns. Contacted Ford and was told the computer was flashed in 2013, before I even owned the car. Was told that it would be my responsibility and to hold receipts because I be able to get reimbursed for part or all of costs associated with this issue. Now Ford says no go! looking around on issues with the torque sensor and noted many people going through the same as I have. Seems to me Ford is just trying to get more parts replaced and doesn't care about our safety. This is an attempt to get Ford on the ball to fix their vehicles. I've been a Ford person for a long time, but considering going to take my future car purchases to other cars. Come on Ford!.

The failure mileage was 95,500. Ad.
Regarding: NHTSA recall number 14v-284, Ford recall number 14s05 electric power steering the recall instructions to dealers call for a signal test and either reprogramming a sensor or replacing the torque sensor based on the results. It also calls for replacing the torque sensor upon failure if the failure occurred before the vehicle had the recall sensor performed. The recall instructions to dealers also tells them that a torque sensor that fails after the reprogramming was done is not covered by the recall. The purpose of the sensor reprogramming was to initiate a warning in the driver control center upon imminent sensor failure, but does nothing to fix, repair or replace the defective part. I had the dealer perform the test and software upgrade and was under the mistaken impression that the recall was to actually replace the statistically faulty part , and not just a potential warning. The electric power steering on my vehicle failed on 4-12-2018 and, incidentally, I did not get a warning on the driver information center before the failure; so the reprogramming did nothing for my vehicle. My question is why is Ford/Mercury not required to replace the failed sensors that are the subject of the recall? I understand Ford not being required to replace sensors that might fail but giving drivers notice of imminent failure, but Ford should be required to replace sensors that do fail even after the reprogramming because the reprogramming is not intended to fix the problem just warn drivers. The sensor replacement is nearly a $2000 repair that I believe should be covered by the recall. Can the NHTSA explain the rational for not requiring Ford to actually fix the defect that causes a serious hazard?.
While driving, power steering failed during intersection turn. No accident, just wrestled steering wheel through problem. My mechanic said failure was "steering shaft torque sensor". Upon research, I found this seems to be part of a recall that I was not aware of (ref 14v284000 issued 5/29/2014 -- also ref Ford 14s05). Called Ford customer service for verification. Could not get verification of past qualification for my VIN, just that "none open now". Said for recall in question, that Ford management had since closed that recall as complete. How can I verify that my VIN originally part of that recall? and if so, is there no relief available? expensive repair -- $500+.
I was driving on the highway yesterday evening when my Mariner displayed the message power assist system fault. I did not notice an immediate issue with the steering but carefully limped it home. This morning I called my mechanic about it. He had formerly worked for Ford and was familiar with the issue. We set up an appointment. However as I backed the vehicle out of the garage, the message disappeared and the power steering failed completely, making the vehicle unsafe to drive.
Recall on Mariner. Took it in to have recall reviewed and they did the software update and then my power steering failed within a month. The recall states there are 3 fixes and Ford is choosing to do the software update so then the software can't communicate with the power steering so it is failing. My local dealer tried to contact Ford to have what they did amended so they can fix it. They ran another test on it and it threw another power steering code. Went to leave my dealer and my power steering was completely out at that point. Ford is not doing the proper fixes. The software update is causing the power steering to fail within a few weeks to a month or two. This recall needs to be reopened.

My power steering was reprogrammed under recall 14s05 back in 2015. Because I did not have any active codes in my system forward reprogrammed the power steering control module. My vehicle now is showing trouble code b2278. The original code that triggered a recall. My power steering failed while I was driving the vehicle. As a result I tore a muscle in my side trying to maintain control of my vehicle. I attempted to contact the dealership and was told that the recall was worked and closed.
