36 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Brakes continue to be an issue to the point I am not able to drive the car in bad weather or on rough road. I have borrowed a car to drive during snow etc. Brakes go to the floor and do not work definitely once abs system is activated. Brakes on a daily basis continually go to the floor and do not grab once applied. Brakes are working day to day driving on dry smooth roads, but typically they go to the floor and you can finally stop with ample space allowed. When brake is applied, you feel an initial grab, then let go, propelled forward, and then the final grab once petal is at the floor. This is unpredictable and uncomfortable to be using brakes in bumper to bumper traffic let alone day to day driving stopping behind another car. Must always leave lots of stopping distance in front of the car for enough space to stop. Brakes at times have to be pumped to get any pressure. All inspections are up to date, and brake parts are new (pads, rotors, master cylinder) and repeatedly checked over last few years. It has come to the point I cannot drive the car in the winter. I cannot afford a car payment. Mine car is paid for. And my car is kept impeccable and maintained constantly. I want my car fixed. I love my car. This has been ongoing for some time now and every garage assures me my brakes are soft but nothing wrong that they can find after hours and hours at different repair shops. What is being done to remedy this? I do not have scanning abilities for repair receipts to be uploaded. I do not have all the receipts for every time I had a brake inspection worried about my brakes. I do have most recent receipts for safety check 5/3/16, master cylinder replaced 8/8/16 (probably not needed), brake check 12/14/16, and brake check 1/17/17. Receipts are from different garages. This car is for sure not safe to drive in snow.

37 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Nothing bad has happened, yet. A couple of years ago, we noticed that the brakes became much softer. It became necessary to push further down on the pedal to engage them. We took the care to a shop in March of 2016. The mechanics checked the whole system, and thought it was the master cylinder, so he put a new one it. He called us to tell us, that wasn't the issue, so he removed it, and did not charge us. I did some on line searches, which I've continued, and saw that there were similar issues with that NHTSA was looking at, and heir might be a recall. I've continued to check every few months, or so , for the past 2 years, but still no word of a recap. I checked on muffed. Com today, and Ford still has not recalled the problem. The only recall appearing for that car is the current air bag issue (16s26). My wife tells me that now she's used to it and that if it is a safety issue, Ford would recall it. I won't drive the car. I think it's a accident waiting to happen. I doubt this will accomplish anything, or that I'll get a response, but I'd like to know the status on this situation, and want to go on record as reporting it. Maybe Ford will take care of it eventually if enough people complain.

38 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

While driving if hitting a speed bump, pot hole, or something similar the abs would kick in. This would cause the brake pedal to be pushed all the way to the floor before the brakes would engage. The last time this happened was just driving and came up to the stop sign and the abs acted as if it kicked in and had to push the brake pedal all the way down. Normally after turning the car off and back on the brakes would go to normal, but has not this time. Changed the brake pads, front and rear, the master cylinder, and still no improvement. After reading that there was a recall on other years for the abs, found that the abs is the problem with mine as well. Have recently read that other vehicles are having the same problem as mine. Abs kicking in for no reason and not having brakes until the pedal is completely pressed to the floor. This started happening since I hit 80,000 miles and now have 89,xxx and it has recently gotten much worse, unable to drive the vehicle and unable to afford to fix it.

39 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/20/2015

I purchased my car in 2009 used at 25,000 miles. I am experiencing trouble with my master cylinder. As I went over a pothole and pressed on my brakes, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I took my car to a mechanic and he stated it was the master cylinder. I had my master cylinder replaced and I am still having he same problem. An ambulance stopped in front of a car ahead of me and I had to slam on brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor. I went back to the mechanic and he stated the master cylinder was brand new. He told me to look up to see if there is a recall on the brake system. Thank goodness I have not experienced an accident yet. I wanted to have this on file.

40 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 03/08/2015

In oct 2011, while coming to a stop on an uneven surface of a shopping center, the abs kicked in, and brake pedal fell to the floor. Eventually the car came to a stop, when the emergency brake was pulled. Within a minutes the brake pedal resumed normal function. As a precaution, an independent repair shop bled the brakes. 8 months later abs engaged for a hard brake while traveling 45. The brake pedal fell to the floor board, and the car did not stop. (I ran over the armadillo). The next day, the pedal did not resume normally, so I took it to the dealership. Ford diagnosed a bad abs module. Had a new, genuine module replaced. About one year after the module was replaced, ran over railroad tracks and depressed the brake going less than 10 mph and the pedal fell to the floor, but a few minutes later it returned to normal. March of 2015, the pedal fell to the floor while hitting a pothole at less than 10mph, and coming to a stop. Pedal did not resume normal pressure. Went to an independent repair shop and they diagnosed a bad master cylinder. After the part was replaced, I drove around the parking lot and the problem was not fixed. (when the car is in park, I could slowly pump the brake and pressure would build, but while driving, the pedal was still squishy. ) repair shop stated it was a bad part, and replaced another master cylinder. The second part still has not fixed the problem and my brakes continue to be squishy. Because of this issue, my brakes and rotors are being worn abnormally, which is going to cause more need for repair. It has been suggested by others with this same problem(there are a lot!) that I buy a new car because this one is unsafe. Until I can afford that, I hope others come forward with their issues. This should not be happening, and Ford is responsible!.

41 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

When driving my vehicle downhill, the brakes do not grab at all. Most times on the road, they work fine. Had mechanic check master cylinder, pads and rotors. All checked out fine. He's had other vehicles with same problem, changed all the previous listed parts without any success. Upon changing the abs module, the problem is solved. My husband's company has a fleet of Ford fusions (basically same car as my Milan) and people have encountered this same problem which has been resolved when the abs module is changed. I have also read of many other complaints regarding the exact same issue online. I believe this poses an extremely dangerous situation. The brake pedal goes completely to the floor. I have to use my emergency brake. I have to wonder how many accidents were caused due to the abs module interfering with the brakes ability to work properly. My car currently only has 25,000 miles and has already been recalled for their lights. I truly believe Ford is aware this is a problem but is denying any responsibility. ## VIN passed ## Mercury Milan 2010 ##.

43 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

Trying to stop vehicle and pedal went tot he floor. Have had the master brake cylinder, brake pads and brake booster replaced. Car still has a soft brake pedal that goes to the floor upon initial stop. Brakes will pump up after a couple pushes on the pedal. May not have that luxury in an emergency situation. What else could it be? we have bled the lines and the master cylinder several times.

45 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

Vehicle went over a slight bump when braking and the abs engaged for a second or two. The brake pedal went to the floor and had to be pumped very hard to get the vehicle to eventually stop. The brake pedal remained very soft and close to the floor thereafter. The brakes would work, but the pedal was not nearly as responsive as before the incident. The dealer found no codes triggered, replaced the rear calipers, added brake fluid and bled the brake system. The pedal was a little more normal and the brakes worked. The same thing happened again about 6 months later. This time the dealer said there was a code triggered that said the abs control unit needed to be replaced at a cost of about $1,200, and the master cylinder may also have to be replaced at a cost of about $350. I did a google search to see if other owners of Milan's or taurus's reported similar problems and found many complaints about the same thing. This is a serious and expensive safety defect with these vehicles. Is there any hope the manufacturer will pay for the repairs?.

The failure mileage was 100,600.

47 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

I had to replace the brake booster,cv boots, master cylinder rotors and brakes. All to the tune of 2,000. I had no warning. No lights in the dash came on or anything. I was going down a hill and all of a sudden there were no brakes. I have had cars and drove them for over 200,000 miles and I have never had to replace all this stuff on a car. This Mercury has cost me so much money. Its not like its a mercedes or BMW. Nothing on this car is cheap to get fixed. I have replaced the brakes over 20 times and the car is only 6 years old. I see why they stopped making them.
