1 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

Passengers oc3 seat occupancy mat failed causing the passenger side air bag to be deactivated. Mini had extended the warranty on this for 10 years and 120,000 miles. My Mini was less than 10 years old but did have 130,000 miles on 4/3/2019 when I took it into the dealer. Mini has refused to replace this defected part even thought they know it was defective because they extended the warranty. They also know that on previous years models they were forced to recall this part as I also own a 2006 Mini that went bad and it took over a year before they finally did a recall. Mini does not have a workable customer relations system that allows the customer to appeal this safety defect replacement rejection. The bottom line is that Mini know they have a defective safety sensor and have a history of this being a bad part but are unwilling to do the right thing and replace it. They instead want the customer to spend over $1,000 dollars to replace it for their own safety. This is a bad company dynamic and shows no corporate responsibility.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

My insurance has asked me to file this complaint as my vehicle'sairbags deployed at an impact under 5 mph leading to the conclusion that the airbag sensor in my car is faulty. on Friday, July 6th at 10:15 am I was driving on the 405 n in bumper to bumper freeway traffic, it was a clear day with good visibility and road conditions. The two vehicle's involved in the minor collisionwere my 2014 Mini countryman and a 2017 infinity. Manycars were cutting over to the right to get onto the upcoming 55 north and southbound interchange highway. AsI was merging to the left a grey car sped by to merge right causing me to merge back into my lane. However, the white infinity aheadhad hit the brakes causing me totap her rear bumper at an impact under 5 mph. Then the three driver's side airbags deployed. I immediately called 911 and they transferred me to the chp. After hanging up, I got out of my car and the other driver and Iexchanged information. The other driver left within 5 minutes as herbumper was left with only a minor scratch, and no dents or bumps. I got back in my vehicle and waited for the chp. When the officer arrived, he pushed my car to the right side of the road. We waited for the aaa tow truck. No accident report was taken as there was no accusations or injury. The tow truck drove my vehicle to the nearest Mini dealership. my insurance company wants to move forward and fix both cars minor damage and repair my vehicle's airbags. Thecost per airbag ranges from $1000 to $2000. how very unfortunate given the extremely minor damage involved. from what I have gathered, I've found that airbagsare to deploy at an absolute Minimum speed of 10 mph. Given the fact that the aforementioned collision occurred below 10 mph, it is therefore to be assumed that some sort of error occurred causing the deployment of my vehicle's airbags.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/12/2016

My airbag sensor light is on continuously and my mechanic diagnosed it as passenger side airbag sensor mat problem. This is the same problem that resulted in a recall for 2005-2008 models in the NHTSA campaign number 15v205000. I've called my local BMW/Mini service department, but they say it's not part of the recall and there's nothing they can do.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/18/2016

I was informed by my Mini service department that the passenger side air bag sensor located under the passenger seat was malfunctioning and needed to be replaced. This exact part has been the cause of a recall for Minis made the same year as mine, but my car is not included in the recall. This is obviously the same problem that generated the recall. I cannot afford to make this repair myself, and neither the Mini dealer nor Mini corporate has been helpful in resolving this issue. I feel that my car should be included in this recall and therefore should be repaired at no cost to me. I'd like to request that my car be included in the recall officially, so that I can complete these repairs. Otherwise, I risk driving unsafely, without the function of the passenger side airbag.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

My car only has 47,000 miles on it and has the same passenger side airbag issue. It started off at times having the problem, now is on all the time. Mini wants $125 to diagnose the problem, which seems evident. Also paid $425 to fix electrical wiring that corroded and $1,700 2 months earlier this year when wheel sensor went bad and 3 lights went off in the car.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/04/2016

Passenger side air bag sensor mat faulty. Same issue as other Mini Coopers that have been recalled. Was told I have to replace entire seat. $1,000. Was told there is a nation wide back order for the seat. This repair should be covered by Mini (BMW).

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/03/2015

Initially there was an intermittent indication that the passenger side air bag was deactivated. Problem is getting to be more frequent. Obdii fault code "93c3 seat-occupancy detector" is set. I am told this is the same fault code that resulted in a recall of the 2006 model year Mini Cooper.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Passenger side airbag sensor is faulty. It shows airbag off and there is no way to turn it back on. I see recalls for the same issue on Mini Cooper s and clubman of the same year, but not the base model that I have.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

As many other Mini owners have reported, my srs light is on and the passenger side airbag is continuously off (light stays on). I have no idea if I am driving with or without airbags. $1,500 to fix at dealer. Mini did a recall on models up to 2005.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/08/2012

Passenger side airbag failed. Seat passenger detector failure is cause. A review of on line trouble sites show this to be a very common problem which manufacturer denies and delays repair. Though Mini has multiple reports of this, they refuse to repair as they state "out of warranty". This is a basic safety feature which is flawed and should be subject to immediate and broad recall.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that the srs warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the passenger side air bag seat sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

I was driving on a houston, TX freeway going 60 mph when the car to the left of me suddenly swerved directly into my driver side. The other car, which was a Honda passport SUV, hit my entire driver side from rear bumper to my door to the front bumper. I was driving a 2007 Mini Cooper. At 60 mph, my side airbags did not deploy! the impact was direct and at 60 mph. Surely there must be some defect with the side airbags.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

Mini Cooper 2005: at 60,000 passenger side air bag sensor malfunctioned. Light stays on no matter if someone is in the seat or not. Mini service says it will cost $1,000 plus to repair sensor, and that the bag will not deploy if sensor is malfunctioning.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

The passenger side air bag started having intermittent failures starting about 55,000 miles and little over three years, seven months after purchase. Full failure occurred at 80,000. The seat was not commonly used. The car is used primarily to commute to and from work by one person.
