1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/11/2020

Thermostast housing replacement and water pipe. Cooling system needs to be flush. Engine rebuild due over heating. Oxygen sensor replacement. Timing chain replacement. Thermostast replacement.

2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/16/2020

Passenger occupancy airbag sensor failed, Mini has offered a recall for similar models but only the convertible and not the hard-top; however this is a problem for the non convertibles. It's incredibly unsafe for the sensor to go off and not be reset. I would like Mini to recall and repair all models with that sensor that fails, not just convertible models.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/16/2019

Passenger seat mat sensor on 2007 Mini Cooper faulted. There was a recall on BMW and Mini Coopers except for this base model. Dealer said it would be $1800. To fix I would think the parts for this car are the same. Should be recalled.

4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/31/2019

The seat sensor for the passenger airbag was replaced once under a recall. After 2 years, it has failed again. The dealer stated that there is only a two year warranty on teh part. It is a safety issue that makes the care unsafe and unusable.

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

The passenger airbag is inoperative anytime the engine is running whether the car is moving or stationary. The passenger airbag does not work on a city street, highway or while turning. The problem appears to be with the passenger seat sensor not functioning properly. There has been a recall on this issue with other year Mini Cooper's but for some reason not this year even though there are plenty of online references to this problem in online Mini Cooper chat rooms. This is a very serious and dangerous fault with the Mini Cooper. Potential with deadly consequences. The issue was present when we purchased the car used approximately two years ago. I contacted Mini Cooper (1-866-825-1525) to see if they would fix the problem but was told the car was out of warranty. Apparently they are aware of the passenger seatbelt malfunction and have chosen not to do anything about it.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

Passenger occupancy sensor is malfunctioning leading to the passenger airbag being disabled while in motion. A person sitting in the passenger seat triggers the airbag sensor warning and disabling of the airbag. While the person is sitting in the passenger seat, the warning can come on and off, and the error does not occur while the seat is unoccupied. The occupancy sensor mat needs to be replaced yet it is not available to be sold separately and requires replacing of the entire seat cushion (cost prohibitive) and is not covered under warranty. The 2012 Mini Cooper model is not covered by the Mini recall for the same exact issue which has affected thousands of vehicles.

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

I took my car in for servicing for an oil change and because the passenger airbag warning was displayed. Technician said the passenger seat occupancy has a sensor fault. No guarantee the airbag would inflate in an accident. $1123 plus tax to replace. Is there a recall notice on this? if so I have not seen it. Can not afford to replace that, it is a serious safety concern. Can you help me with this in some way? seems mandatory to me that Mini Cooper would cover this. My car has less than 35k on it mileage. I am very concerned for my passengers in front seat.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

When you turn on the car the airbag sensor light coming on and off randomly on my dashboard and the yellow passenger airbag warning signs on the top of the car also coming on and off, sometimes it disappear while the car is running sometimes it doesn't. I called Mini Cooper local dealer, no recall noted including in your website.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

I have a 2010 Mini Cooper hardtop. This is an ongoing problem of the last three years. The passenger airbag alert goes on when I have a passenger in the seat saying passenger airbag is off. I've taken it to a repair shop and they will need to dismantle the seat to see if the sensor is defective and replace. I see that other models of Mini Coopers have had recalls for this defect in seat sensors. Models in years before and after 2010. It is an expensive procedure, and dangerous if I have a passenger.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/27/2017

Air bag sensor light is on continuously, this is the same issue previous years have experienced and had recalls on and nothing has changed. This is very dangerous in the event of an accident the front passenger will have no protection.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

The "pass air bag off" with seat icon/2 light (located on the driver's side above the rear view mirror) began to come on intermittently with or without a passenger in the front passenger seat when the odometer read about 50,000 miles. The light came on permanently at around 70,000 miles. The dealership checked, did not find a loose connection, and said the sensor needed to be replaced. We contacted the Mini corporation but were informed that although there was a recall for other 2007 Mini Cooper passenger seat sensors for the air bag system, there was no recall for the two-door hardtop. We replaced the passenger seat occupancy sensor for the air bag system at our own expense.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/21/2016

Faulty front passenger seat weight sensor for airbag. Weight sensor fails to distinguish when someone is or is not in the seat, causing the airbag for the front passenger constantly read "passenger air bag off. ".

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/13/2016

While driving on the street with my wife the "passenger air bag off" light came on and would not go off immediately. Since then it happens sporadically without any notice. I took it into the dealer and they said it was the passenger seat airbag sensor and it would cost $1300 to repair it. I know there was a recall for the 2007 Cooper s but not for the 2007 Mini Cooper. It seems to me the same part could be have been used in the same model year car.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Mini Cooper convertible. While driving at an unknown speed, the lights on the instrument panel illuminated without warning. The passenger seat sensor malfunctioned and needed to be replaced in order not to affect the air bag functionality. Upon shifting the weight on the seat, the lights near the odometer illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing, but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 51,000.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/11/2016

Occupancy sensor 15v/205 r56 is busted.

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

Srs computer and sensors are failing. No accident, no flooding just failing sensors and computer. Mini claims this is a "maintenance" item, yet there is no documented maintenance protocol for these items. Vehicle has less than 100k miles and air bag system components are failing. Hence we don't know if the system will work or not and the vehicle will not pass our state inspection.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/25/2016

The passenger airbag sensor has been on since the date posted. It would resolve on its own sometimes but not it never turns off, hindering my ability to see the speedometer. I have not shelled out the thousands to get it fixed because I am hoping BMW will recall for this apparently common problem.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

Timing chain , passenger airbag sensor when in motion.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Passenger air bag sensor will not reset and light is on continuously. Don't know if system is working or not. . No fix available and no parts available anywhere. Dealer says, try in a month. From what I read earlier models were recalled do to this defect. Why not all of them. No one can tell me that the car is safe to drive.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

Faulty seat occupancy detector in passenger seat. There has been a recall on this in several models, but they do not currently include this model/year. Failure of the seat sensor prevents deployment of the passenger airbag and can only be fixed by replacing the entire seat (expensive). No user-specific actions have caused this defect, it's a well known problem. The issue was originally diagnosed in 2014, re-diagnosed 1/3/2016. The best resolution we have been offered is 10% off repair costs.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

I moved the passenger seat forward to let someone into the back seat. The passenger air bag sensor light started to go on and off later that day indicating that that the air bag was not on for the passenger seat. Now the light is on constantly. I saw on the internet that over 90,000 of these sensors have been recalled including the 2007 Mini convertible, but not my hardtop. Why is my model not included in the recall? this is a little car and I am afraid to have anyone sit in the passenger seat with the airbag disengaged.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

2007 Mini Cooper with 31,000 miles. I am usually the only one in the car. On this day my husband and a friend were with me. We moved the passenger seat up to allow the third person to get in the back seat. Later in the day the light on the dash which signifies that the passenger airbag is turned off started going on and off. I thought maybe there was a loose wire under the seat, but was told by a mechanic that I needed a new airbag sensor. The part costs 1100. 00 and was ordered two months ago. I am still waiting. The light is on all the time now. Apparently, Mini has recalled over 90,000 cars with this same problem. The cars made in 2006 are included in the recall as well as 2007 convertibles. How many people have to report this problem for all 2007's to be included in the recall? this is an especially alarming problem because the Mini is such a small car. Luckily, we have two cars and I do not have to put anyone in the passenger seat until this is fixed.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

At approximately 65,000, 2009 Mini Cooper r56 air bag sensor light would flicker on and off, but now stays on all the time. No idea if this means that air bags will fail.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

I received a notice from Mini Cooper important safety recall notice by mail and called to try and schedule a replacement of the seat sensor. I was told that a diagnostic test might be charged for this and it would be $150. 00 for the replacement. This is freaking ridiculous, this is the second time they try to cash out at my expense. . . 25 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

While I was driving my car, the front passenger airbag got disconnected and the light came on. Now the lights indicating that the airbag is off remain on at all times. At the exact same time the light indicating that the passenger seat belt was not fasten came on as well and it remains on at all times while there is nobody on the passenger seat. The light remains on even if I fasten the seatbelt. I went to Mini dealership and was told that I had to pay $140 if I wanted them to inspect my car, I decided to take my car to an independent mechanic instead who told me after inspection ($95 for the inspection) that there was an issue with the sensors in the seat and that the entire seat had to be replaced ($1100 to replace it). This is a very serious issue since the airbag will not operate in case of accident. I know several Mini owners have experienced the same incident but Mini dealers refuse to assume that there is an issue that needs to be taken care of.

26 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

Air bag sensor goes off at random times. There is a current recall for 2005-2008 Mini Coopers, but not all makes. The 2005-2006 models are the Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper s, Mini Cooper convertible and Mini Cooper convertible s. The recall is extended through 2008 models but those models only include the convertible and the convertible s. The 2007-2008 Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper s are also having this air bag issue, as numerous people have mentioned on various Mini forums, and should be included in the recall. . . Updated 09/03/15.

27 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the air bag sensor light would illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the front passenger seat occupant detection mat sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. In June 2015 the recall notices for NHTSA campaign 15v20500(air bag system) was received. After contact both the dealer and the manufacturer the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available. The failure mileage was 80,000. Jft.

28 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

8;30 am three car intersection accident. Traffic light controlled 4 way intersection, auto traveling south bound ran red light and collided with two cars traveling east bound through intersection at approx 35 mph. . 1st car impacted Toyota Mini van drivers side. Force of accident so severe that it forced Mini van into my auto. The Mini van impacted my Mini primarily into my drivers side door. All three vehicles had to be towed from scene of accident. My Mini Coopers drivers side door demolished. Force of impact so great the it bent the frame underneath the drivers door 3-4 inches according to the repair facility it was towed to. Vip auto body. The window that was approx 1/3 open shattered the window. I sustained injuries to neck, back, shoulder and right side of head which hit the door panel upon impact. I have done extensive research since this accident and there are several air bags and side door impact bag curtains in the Mini Cooper and none of them deployed. There is an actual sensor in the middle of each door to activate the air bags, obviously the one in the drivers side door was not working. This car supposedly has a 5 star crash rating according to Mini USA and my original window sticker. I contacted Mini USA the day after the accident, and they instructed me not to have any repairs done until one of there tech's came out to inspect the Mini and do a diagnostic check of the air bag system. I did so. The tech came out 5 days later, and a week after that the results came in and Mini USA said everything was working properly as far as the air bags. Liars. Anyone with any common sense can see that the air bags should have deployed with the force of this impact. They just don't want to take any responsibility for this accident. My Mini Cooper was deemed a total loss. Any investigation into this accident would be very appreciated maybe even saving a life in the future . . . . Updated 04/23/15.

29 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

I took my 2008 Mini Cooper in for its annual safety check and it did not pass. The front seat passenger airbag sensor is faulty, it does not detect that there is in fact a person occupying the seat. I feel that this is a safety issue that Mini Cooper should be responsible for. This is not a normal wear and tear issue, again, it's a safety issue. The part to replace this sensor ranges from $1200-$1400 depending on the retailer. The cost of this part is outrageous. The labor has been estimated to be 2-4 hours depending on whether or not the seat needs to be completely re-upholstered. I strongly feel that there should be a recall on this faulty sensor and that Mini Cooper should be responsible for ensuring that their vehicle is safe.

30 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

This complaint is in regard to the current recall campaign 15v-205; front passenger seat occupant detection mat sensor. The manufacturer is delinquent in making this critical safety update. The part 573 report indicated an owner notification date of may 01 -- June 01; the notification came in late June. The letter from the usdot of April 17, 2015 indicated that the recall was expected to begin on may 1. As it is now August, I would ask the agency continue putting appropriate pressure on the manufacturer. When the problem first surfaced years ago, the dealer did not seem to indicate there would be any trouble getting those parts---but they wanted almost $1500 to repair. I appreciate your continued efforts in getting my car repaired.

31 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/07/2014

Airbag sensor mat is faulty. This appears to be a common problem. For one thing, it is impossible to get the part; internet forums and the dealership indicate there is a backlog for this part. This suggests that it is a widespread problem. Also, the part is $900. 00. The dealership charges $1,348. 00 for labor. No wonder BMW/Mini are not interested in extending the warranty to cover an obvious safety issue. Can you follow up on the takata airbag recall and fix this problem?.

32 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that when starting the vehicle the airbag fault light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed the passenger safety sensor mat needed to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000. Sr.

33 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

The passenger air bag sensor went on in my Mini Cooper. I noticed this seems to be a common issue. I also had to replace the steering components in the Mini Cooper, which again seems to be a common issue. I am concerned regarding all the air bag recalls, but at 1,7k to replace the entire seat; that is quite a burden upon a tight budget. I just wanted to use this website as a place where I have documented these issues, so that if there is a insurance claim down the road, because of these faulty issue, I have a documented complaint.

34 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

The airbag sensor light came on for no apparent reason. It is really unfair for me as consumer if I have to repair a factory defect because there is no recall.

35 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Hello, I understand that there has been a recall issued for certain Mini Coopers with faulty passenger air bag sensors. I am writing today because I have a 2007 Mini Cooper hardtop that has had a faulty passenger air bag sensor for over a year, however my specific car is not yet included in the recall because it is a hardtop, not a convertible, even though it is was produced in the same time span. Please, please, please let them know that they have not included all of the affected vehicles. My VIN number is wmwmf33577tt52250 thank you!.
