36 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

My occupancy sensor 2 mat is bad on the passenger's side. My mechanic told me that he thought there was a recall on this part, otherwise it will be about $1400 to replace. This is a major safety issue because the sensor is unable to read whether or not a passenger is in the seat.

37 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Passenger seat occupancy sensor stop working- causing air bag in passenger seat to shut off. No way to override and seat sensor cost over $1300 to replace. I understand this very common with Coopers in this date range. Very similar seat sensors for the BMW model has been recalled but not the version for the Mini that is failing. Seems like design flaw that should be recalled.

38 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

The weight sensor in the front passenger seat that determines whether to deactivate the airbag when a child is seated, or if the seat is unoccupied, is broken. This has caused the frontal airbag to become permanently deactivated at all times. There has been a recall of other cars for this issue, but BMW refuses to include my vehicle despite it being the same year and experiencing the identical problem.

39 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

Recently purchased a 2006 Mini Cooper for my teen child. We now discovered that the passenger airbag notification should not be on. We took it to a BMW dealer to have this looked, and we were told that it's due to a faulty passenger occupancy sensor in the passenger seat bottom requiring a replacement at a cost of $1700. After further investigation, I see that this is a common problem. This could be safety concern, and I beleive that BMW should be responsible to have this problem corrected. I am not sure if the airbag will deploy if a passenger is seated. This is a situation that needs to be remedied through a recall. Mini should extended their airbag system warranty.

40 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Occupancy sensor mat bad and passenger air bag disabled light on. A known issue and BMW autos and suvs have been recalled for this issue. I believe the Mini passenger seat occupancy sensor mat is the same design as the BMW 3 series and should also be recalled. From what I understand, this disables the passenger airbag putting a passenger in danger. The BMW recall campaign is no. 13v-564.

50 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

On February 9, 2011, we were informed by Mini service that the seat occupancy sensor was faulty and that it would cost us $1,245. 00 plus tax to repair as it is not covered by the warranty package which they sold us when the vehicle was purchased in 2007. Mileage of vehicle at that time was 46,810. The light indicating that there was a problem with the airbag sensor occurred months earlier, but we did not realize that it was indicative of a serious problem as small children did sit in that seat from time to time. On March 16, 2011, hydraulic power steering pump on vehicle failed. Mileage was 47,895.

51 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

52 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/13/2009

The air bag sensor in the passenger seat malfunctioned and was replaced under warrenty in 2009. The sensor has malfunctioned again in 2011. The dealer said they do not cover it under warrenty because the vehicle and the part were past the warrenty period. They wanted over $1000 to fix it. I conveyed to them that they have a safety problem related to this sensor and apparently they have not corrected it yet, so why would I pay to have it replaced by a part that will malfunction again. This is a serious safety issue that BMW/Mini are ignoring!.

53 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/03/2009

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper. The airbag sensor in the passenger seat failed after 60,000 miles, just after the car went out of warranty. This is a known defect that many Mini and BMW owners have experienced. The sensor in the passenger seat has failed causing the airbag to be permanently deactivated, even when a passenger is sitting in the seat. The dealer charges $1100 to fix the defect. I feel like the airbag should work for the life of the car, or at least up to 100,000 miles. This car has never been in an accident or had any other mechanical issues that would affect the airbag. My car is in good condition and has approximately 80,00 miles on it. This is a huge safety issue and the manufacturer should be responsible for fixing this. I would like to file a complaint against BMW and Mini Cooper and I would like the manufacturer to fix this defect at no charge to the owner of the car. Thank you.

54 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/30/2005

Air bag check light is on. No air bag was deployed, no crash was involved. This is on going problem with the Mini Cooper which should have a recall. Cost is over 1000. 00 dollars to repair. If not repaired air bag may not deploy in a crash.

55 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/10/2005

2002 Mini Cooper VIN# wmwrc33402te10846. Car has been to the dealer at least four times to address the air bag light being lit, in 44,000 miles. Various harnesses have been replaced three times and the air bag sensor once. Now, at 44,500 miles, the air bag light is on again for a fifth time. I've been told by the dealer the air bags will not function with the light lit. I suggest that Miniusa be forced to issue a recall on this vehicle to correct the problem once and for all as it is a major safety concern which they do not appear to have fully isolated.
