Mitsubishi Eclipse owners have reported 18 problems related to brake disc pads (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mitsubishi Eclipse based on all problems reported for the Eclipse.
The contact owns a 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floor when depressed. The contact notified the dealer for several months and provided no follow up calls to provide disclosure on when the part would become available. The dealer kept stating that the parts were not available and that they would call when they arrive. The contact continued to experience the brake pedal traveling to the floor. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v337000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and the part was not available beyond a reasonable time frame. The contact replaced the brake pads twice while waiting an extremely long time for the repair, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Safety recall notice received on abs brakes, brake stroke has increased dramatically, breaks are squishy and need to be pumped, symptoms are as described on recall notice, pads are ok, no air in lines, fluid level ok. Called local dealer . . . . . . Mitsubishi(delete) and was told they were not authorized yet to make repairs on the recall . I could take it in and pay for the checks and repairs my self and submit bill for refund to Mitsubishi. Not acceptable to me at this time,( expect several hundred dollars). Called Mitsubishi customer relations department number listed on the recall notice (888-648-7820) was told the same thing that parts are not available but I could take it in, have local dealer make repairs, pay for it myself and send bill to them. Again not acceptable. Will wait until I get the second notice to take the car in for repair I guess.

I was getting to a red light to make a left turn. Cars were coming so I pressed the brakes to stop and let them pass. The brakes started to catch then went to the floor and the car didn't stop. I slammed the gas to turn in front of oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the car waiting to turn in the lane in front of me. I understand there is a long line of people that have this same model and year car as me, have been through this same issue and there is no recall. I have my brakes checked and brake pads changed regularly when needed.

As I was driving down a congested road, I tried to come to a stop and the peddle went all the way down to the floorboard. I tried pulling the emergency brake and that didn't work either. At that point I avoided a collision by going on the median and down shifted. The car, luckily, is a 5 speed. My husband replaced the brake pads a month or so before that, so he checked to be sure the lines were bled correctly. Which they were. This was the first instance. Today was the scariest. It was raining and I was going 45 in the middle lane. The car in front of me stopped suddenly and I tried, too. The front end kind of hopped up a few times as I tried to apply the brakes and e brake. Again, by the grace of god, I was far enough away that I didn't hit him. Being wary after the first incident, I stay far back from other cars. Every time this happens, I hear a whining sound when the peddle is pumped and until the peddle comes back all the way up. This year should be recalled, too. Tallahassee has no dealership, so my closet option is about an hour and a half away.
Had to brake quickly to avoid hitting someone pulling out of a parking lot. Front left wheel locked up, abs engaged and made an odd noise. Ever since, the brakes are soft and make a whistling sound upon releasing the pedal. I've had all the brake pads and rotors replaced, as well as the fluid and a proper bleed performed. This has not solved the issue. In performing research, this same issue continues to occur for others as well, and the only fix is replacing the abs pump. This needs to be recalled. If I have to brake hard now, the left front wheel still locks up, and it jerks the car in that direction initially.
2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse brakes go to floor without stopping vehicle. Checked brake pads, etc, and they were fine. Brakes still going to floor.
The contact owns a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, she heard a loud, abnormal noise. She then attempted to brake but the brakes would not engage. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where she was informed that the rear brake pads had fractured from the vehicle. The mechanic replaced the brake pads. On a later date while driving at unknown speeds, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the brake pads were replaced a second time. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000 and the current mileage was approximately 97,000.

I called twice because after having my car 3 months, the brakes squeaked and squealed badly when slowly braking. I got them cleaned, and paid for this. Then I took it into my local dealership and they said there was a new brake pad because they found problems with my model and year Mitsubishi. They quickly replaced my brake pads. Well I question that, because within a week the same sounds were coming from the brakes.
I have had the brake pads on my 2006 Eclipse gt replaced twice (I. E. 3rd set of pads). Each time a high pitched squeal begins a month or so after being installed and progressively gets worse. I now have just under 8,000 miles on the car and the third set of pads is beginning to squeal. After replacing the first two sets of pads, Mitsubishi now says that this is a normal condition. I have never had brake pads that squealed constantly.
This is the second time that the brakes has been making noises. We took it once when we had about 6000 miles on there to the Mitsubishi dealer and they replaced it with (updated brake pads) just 5000 miles later the noise has come back.
I have owned my care for 3 years. In that time I have had a leaking sunroof, broken passenger rear view mirror, broken passenger window "wont roll up", numerous tire changes, bad vibration, horrible noises when turning wheel, have replaced 2 transmissions, both tie rod ends, 1 lower ball joint and control arm suspension bar"more info on this below", alternator, both headlights, 4 differant seats of breaks, 2 seats constintly running low on oil, replaced the fuel filter, seat belts don't stop, battery cables keep caroding, replace spark plugs atleast 3 to 4 times a year, vibrates when going down road. Those are just the things off the top of my head that I have done to this car. Now to the accident. After I got off work I was on my way home when I decided to go to my friends so while driving to her house I hear a loud pop and the next thing I know my car is controling itself and I can't steer it. This was all do to my lower ball joint shattering and my wheel almost completly detaching from my car. Now the other side is starting to make that horrible noise. The control arm swung on the bottum of my car after it broke during this and tore out my oil filter, oil pan, and oxygen senseor. Have yet to recieve any information from Mitsubishi.

The brakes squealed while driving at any speed. Dealer and independent shop replaced the brakes pads and rotors twice, however, the noise still occurs.

Brake pads on rear of vehicle began squealing with only a few thousand miles on them. It has always been relayed to me that there is a squeal indicator built into the pads to notify you of the need to replace your brake pads. I believe it is a potential hazard to the owner since the brake shoes in the rear squeal constantly now at every use and so the owner gets use to the squeel and the brake pads will go beyond their service life and cause stopping problems. I have been told by the dealer that I just have to live with the squealing because they are semi-metallic brake pads and asbestos is no longer allowed. Now if I bought into this answer we wouldn't be able to exist in the city due to all vehicles squealing loudly like my car does when braking. I can not buy into this argument at all. // the alloy wheels on this vehicle are very prone to bending in even the slightest road hazard. I have had two wheels bent and had to completely replace one. The wheel collision place didn't even want the wheel back for a core due to the extent of the bending in the wheel. This wheel didn't take much of a bump and it still bent like this. I do not know the extent of the damage to the wheel as far as the integrity of the wheel after the small road hazard.
