8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

I received a recall notice in July that the brakes could fail if the abs is activated. Mitsubishi referred me to a dealer (the only dealer in nevada). The dealer said they can't make any repairs, because they don't have the parts to fix the car. So, I called Mitsubishi, and they said there is no repair solution available. So I requested a loaner, since my car is not safe to drive. They told me they don't supply loaners, and that I should continue driving the car unless the brakes fail. Unbelievable! two months later, the brakes failed after abs system was activated in the rain and I slid through an intersection almost causing a major accident on a city street at 45mph after trying to stop using the emergency brake. The dealer wants to charge me for the tow (because the vehicle is disabled) and for storage (because they allegedly don't have parts to do the repair). Mitsubishi offered no help whatsoever. They referred me back to the dealer, and the dealer claims they can't make the repair. I told Mitsubishi about my previous experience, and they were no help at all. They said they aren't authorized to make any decisions, and that only the dealership can opt to tow/repair the car or supply a loaner. So now my car sits in the parking lot, broken down with no brakes, with a recall notice in the passenger seat. They want me to tow the car 45 miles out of my own pocket, or drive the car with no brakes. Then they expect me to pay for the loaner. And they expect me to pay for storage while the car sits on their lot waiting for Mitsubishi to come up with a repair solution. Unbelievable.

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I have had several incidents over several months when I step on the brake , it goes to the floor. I quickly pump the brakes and braking effectiveness returns. There has also been times where brake pedal feels mushy. I took to local dealer after almost rear ending a vehicle when it stopped suddenly. . I told them I had received the recall notice but it had told me to wait for further instruction. I informed the dealer that something had to be done as vehicle was unsafe. They performed an abs recall inspection and told me car was fine. . . . . . ". I said no it's not and something needs to be done now. The dealer said they would get back to me. Oct 2nd the brake failed and in avoiding another car I went into the ditch causing damage to car and mild whiplash. Car was towed. I informed dealer and asked what I should do. . . . . . . He said they could flush system but most likely the abs unit needed replacing and they did not have it. I talked to mitchubishi n. Awho informed me that there was no recall. . . . . . . . I now have a car that insurance will fix but I will pay 500. 00 deductible for a car that I am afraid to drive, so now what do I do? the accident happened on a city street when I was preparing to turn left. State patrol and ems responded.

The pedal went all the way to the floor, so I pumped them 2 or 3 times and as I was letting off the break, it started whistling. It sounded like a cross between an accordion and an asthmatic episode. The road had gravel on it and the brakes started to grip, then the pedal went down further and the car kept going for about 10 feet. I was lucky there was no one in front of me. This has happened again several times since then. I have recently received the safety recall letter and went to verhage Mitsubishi in holland, mi on July 30 but they said they don't have the parts to repair it. I called again today and they said they still don't have the parts to repair it. This is very unsafe and should be repaired promptly and Mitsubishi is not providing the parts to do the repair. .

24 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

While driving to work one morning in January around 7:00, my brake pedal went to the floor when I attempted to stop for traffic. I had to steer out of my lane to avoid hitting the stopped car in front of me. I quickly pumped the pedal and it came back up to stop my car. I took the car to a nearby firestone service center but they could not locate any problem, as the car was stopping okay at that time. At least once or twice every couple of months since January, I have had this same thing to occur, the brake pedal goes to the floor when stopping. I have to pump the pedal very fast and hard to stop. Once the pedal is back up, it stops fine. I just never know when it is going to the floor. In July 2015, I received a letter from Mitsubishi motors notifying me of a recall due to an abs hydraulic unit problem. The safety recall notice states Mitsubishi will send me a follow up notice when the remedy parts are available. I feel this is not sufficient. I feel my car is too unsafe for driving. It should be towed to a local dealership for immediate repair. I should be given a safe rental car until Mitsubishi can fix the brakes. The dealership has informed me, they have no towing available, I will have to pay for towing and for a diagnostic check if they cannot reproduce the brake failure, even though there is a recall in place. I know this is an intermittent problem and they probably will not be able to reproduce the failure, that should not cost me towing, diagnostic or storage cost. Is Mitsubishi only responsible when there is a crash? I want my car safe for me and my family. I feel Mitsubishi should do more to make this happen.

25 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 12/18/2014

Dear representative serious anti lock hydraulic brake failure. When I had to brake the other day I had low brake pressure and brake pedal almost went to the floor when I had to come a stop. This is a serious safety item. I had my the car towed to the dealer. The service department determined the abs(antilock brake) system is failing. Abs part is not in stock and the part won't arrive in next few days. As I search on the web , other consumers with the same model car(eclipse 2006-2008) are experiencing the same issue. The government need to get involved before someone get killed. This is a manufacturer defect under mvss. There should be a recall!!! another concern, I have another Eclipse. 07 that can get the same issue . We need a recall so the consumer can be safe and will not have to pay ~$650.
