Mitsubishi Eclipse owners have reported 22 problems related to dashboard crack (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mitsubishi Eclipse based on all problems reported for the Eclipse.
1) a common issue according to the forums and facebook groups, the strut towers rust through which presents a safety issue when considering that the suspension is connected to the steering which could put an individual or others on the road at risk 2) yet another common issue, the dash and associated bezels crack over time. There has been no solution or alternative to complete replacement from anyone, including (I'm sure) Mitsubishi.

Dash cracked in half (degradation). I found that this is happening to almost everybody with the Mitsubishi Eclipse (mine is a 2001). Mitsubishi will not address this problem. This needs to be a recall.
There is a major defect in the dashboards of Mitsubishi Eclipses (years 2000-05). The dashboard will crack as the car hits uneven road such ash pot holes. In the heat and cold although covered and protected fro direct sunlight the dash will expand and retract in size creating small fractures that can crack. Once the cracks become large enough pieces will either fly out towards the driver or fall into the heating and cooling ducts causing damage to the cars blower motor. It is also possible for pieces of the dashboard to shatter around the passenger airbag during a collision causing fatal damage to the passengers or driver. This is not a case by case basis but on every 2000-05 Mitsubishi Eclipse I have come across.

My 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse has started cracking down the dash and is getting increasingly worse all the time.
The failure is my dashboard. The care is a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. The dash started cracking all over the top back in September. At least 4 other people I know with the same car have the same issue. Forums that I am a member of also have many third generation Eclipse owners complaining about the same thing. The manufacturer does not recognize this issue as a defect and will do nothing to resolve the issue.
Dashboard has cracked in two. This is the second dashboard that has been replaced in this car, Dodge and Mitsubishi will not do anything to rectify this problem.
Clearcoat failure on Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000 all bubbling up also the dash is cracking and falling apart.
Bought my car used with cracks in the dash. Since I have owned the car, three more cracks have shown.
Cracked dashboard. No stress added to it. It just happened.
My car has a defected dash. I am on a forum dedicated to Eclipses which lead to this site and all Eclipses (00-02 and even starting on 03 I believe) dashes are cracking really bad. My dash alone has several (around 8) cracks and some of those cracks lead to pieces of the dash that isn't even connected anymore. I have 2 free roaming pieces on my dash that will randomly fly off and slide around while turning or shifting the car. Now I don't believe this can cause any car failures or death, but I believe the dashes shouldn't be falling apart for any reason. I think Mitsubishi should recall the dash with better and more sturdy material.
Dash board cracked in multiple locations not sure what the cause of this is vehicle not involved in any collisions that would cause this, suspect material for dash is affected by temperature, never used any chemicals on the dash for cleaning purposes. This has happened in many friends 2000+ model Mitsubishi Eclipses.
Cracking dashbord on 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse spider . No incident yet, could happen driving with the top down.
Dashboard cracked in 3 different places do to extreme heat and cold.
I suddenly started finding round pieces of broken plastic on the floorboard. It was when I was washing the car and noticed the 2 huge cracks in the dashboard that I realized the pieces of plastic were the "slats" where the defogger air comes out.
(1) without any incident or apparent cause the dash of a Mitsubishi 2000 rs Eclipse started to crack in different places (2) the consequences might be different depending on the circumstances. Right now, I get distracted by the cracks on the dash while driving. I do not know how these loose parts will behave on a collision (3) nothing has been done to correct the cracked plastic dash.
I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse gt. The dash started cracking about a year and a half ago. Almost every part of the dash is cracked now. I got a quote from a Mitsubishi dealer and the cost to replace the dash was $600+. I also checked a salvage yard with no luck at finding a replacement. I am worried that the cracking of the dash will cause an electrical failure or some other failure and I don't have the money to pay for a new one.
I have a 2000 Eclipse gt and the dash is cracked in it. It is made of a cheap plastic that cracks very very easily. I have complained to Mitsubishi numerous times and they have done nothing to help me. I know that there are thousands of Eclipses that also are having this problem. Someone can go to numerous Eclipse forums and see this. I feel the dash being cracked can also be a safety hazard. Having cracks in the dash make it not as sturdy and could be dangerous when operating the vehicle. If there is any way you guys can forward this on to Mitsubishi I would greatly appreciate it.
The dashboard cracked after only a few years. Everyone I know with this car has had their dash crack. The part is listed as "instrument panel".
Contact states: while she was washing vehicle she noticed a crack in dashboard. Also, a crack in rim. She has not had any type of accident to cause these problems. She said that there was a film on the inside windshield. The film was probably moisture were it had rained.
Entire dash cracked from the sun light even though I used a windshield visor since I bought the car in 2000. The cracked dash is becoming a typical thing on 2000 Eclipses.
Vehicle was purchased used with a severly cracked dash. Apparently an occuring problem in the 2000-2006 Mitsubishi Eclipses.
