Water leaks from sunroof (which I do not use) switch, and from side airbags. I have reported this to selling dealership with no results. I then reported this problem to another dealership who said that it is a manufacturers defect resulted from a bad drainage along the front passenger side( beside front windshield).

Roof leaked & would not fully retract due to deformation of structural roof members (roof pillars). Required replacement of 3 major roof members plus installation of straps (as defined in technical service bulletin). This was a structural failure of the roof design known to Mitsubishi, but no recall or consumer alert was communicated.

Convertible top does not go down all the way. Design flaw causes the top stack control links to bend upon opening and closing the top. The replacement parts along with labor is ridiculously high over $650. Mitsubishi who is fully aware of this design flaw, refuses to accept any responsibility.
1997 mitsibishi convertible. Brackets on both sides of convertible top have bent preventing top from opening completely. It happens on all convetibles of this type and has already been identified by manufacturer, however, they won't do anything about it.
My 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder is defective. The convertible roof does not fold into the down position unless I guide it by hand. There are two metal brackets on each side of the roof that are bending and causing the top to hang up when you put the top down. When I took it to the dealer they said it was the bow that was causing the roof to look like it was collapsing in,and causing the rain to leak in, they put in a new bow, but the problem was still present. Now they want another $315. 00 plus the cost of labor to fix the brackets. It seems like a manufacturers defect that should be recalled and fixed at no cost. I am afraid the metal bracket is going to snap and hit me or a innocent bystander in the head. While I had the car at the dealership, a gentleman told me his brother has a 1997 mitsibishi Eclipse spyder and his did the same thing only it did snap. The ragtop could be damaged by the broken metal. Someone needs to look into this!! this is an accident waiting to happen!.
Convertible leaking by driver and passenger area which drips on power window /door lock/window lock switch.
I own a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse gt purchased October 1999. Since early 2003 I began having problems with the paint even though I have taken good care of it. The clear coat on the roof came off. After fighting with the dealer they agreed to help repaint the roof. Shortley thereafter the whole car started turning white my car used to be black now it's white! the is a manufacturing defect and cannot believe the consumer is stuck with the repair of this problem. I have seen numerous Mitsubishi with the same problem. The clear coat simply turns white! Mitsubishi needs to be held accountable for their cheap work and assist consumers with this burden! please help!.

The boot cover for the convertible top blew off two times onto the highway behind me on a recent trip to houston, TX. After passing a u-haul and noticing that the boot cover was about to blow off again, I immediately pulled off the highway, removed the boot cover and placed it in the trunk. This could have caused a major accident if the cover had blown off in the path of a vehicle following me. I dread to think what might have happened if the cover had blown off in the path of the u-haul I was passing.

Two top brackets in the convertible top have bent, preventing top from lowering completely. I was told by the dealer that this is a very common problem caused by stretching in a pair of straps in the top. These straps have been replaced in subsequent models. If this is a known design failure, do I as the consumer have any recourse in having this repaired?.
While the vehicle was parked. Consumer went to put the top down when both brackets bent, causing a failure. Consumer contacted dealer.
Convertible top allows water to leak under seal , when vehicle is driven then water spills onto driver which causes an unsafe condition / Mitsubishi is uncooperative in correcting problem . . . . . Also, we have discussed problem with other Eclipse owners and they have reported same problem(s) . The faulty top appears as though Mitsubishi has a serious design problem. Besides the safety issue I have had to replace the radio , carpet and mats at only 30,000 miles . A high and unecessary expense due to water damage . After reporting safety issue to Mitsubishi no-one has contacted me . Clearly we have a car company that just does not care about its customers .
Convertible top weather strip failures.
Retracted convertible cover blows off in cross wind into traffic.
Convertible top leaks at windshield and driver's side window area. 8ak.
Convertible top frame warped not allowing the top to fully open without locking up. First incident was within one month of purchase and dealer adviced, in writing, to bring vehicle in due to defect problems with top of that model. After supposed repair top continued with same warping problem and manufacturer refused to repair at no cost.
Owner has hardly ever used the convertible top. The convertible top is separating from the frame,it is bulging out.
