The car makes a sound in the rear when I make a turn. The turning radius is very bad. I wouldn't do a u turn with it. The other issue is that the a/c stopped working on a very hot day. When I turned on the a/c the car turned off this almost caused a accident due to the sudden stop. The dashboard is all cracked. Other than that the car seems good. Everything else about the car I do like. The paint is peeling off and there seems to be some rust.

Passenger side mirror and door handle have paint peeling. Why is this happening? according to several body shops this is poor paint quality and issues from Mitsubishi. Ive noticed that almost all of the black Eclipses are having this issue.

My Mitsubishi spyder 03 started having some white/ yellow spotting about a year ago, and the last few months getting worse, looking like the pain is also cracking in some spots. I am real anal about waxing my car, always clean, always looking nice. And now my car looks like crud. Paint fading, and cracking. .

I bought a black 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse in 2004. The paint job seemed fine but soon I realized that my paint is dissolving off my car! the clear coat is almost completely gone and I am afraid my car will soon start to rust. I have seen many other black Eclipses with the same problem. I believe that the manufacturer did not apply the black paint or the clear coat correctly on the black 2002 Eclipses. I feel like the manufacturer should be responsible for fixing the problem because they did not make their product to last.

I have had the car since 2003 or 04, and kept the car covered when I didn't drive it much, but for weekends I used the car for errands. Last year I started to drive the car more often and did not cover the car as much, but continued to wash and wax the car when needed. I started to notice fading spots on the hood on the black paint, but did not do anything about it, but continued to wash and wax the car as usual. This year, around March, I noticed the color started to get more white and it was spreading half way on the hood near the windshield side. Now the paint is also chipping within the white spots exposing the undercoating. The fading on the paint is also noticeable on the trunk and side panels on the top.
Black 2000 mitisubshi Eclipse brought brand new by myself. There is some kind of defect in the paint causing it to fade to white and then fade completely to the bare metal. This is just in spot along the hood, roof and trunk. This vehicle has not been wrecked and has never been anywhere were an "acid" of other type of damage could happen to it. I have seen numerous other black Eclipses with this same problem. I have talked with an owner of the same type year make and model as mine and she has the same problem.
I have a black, 2002 Mitsubishi, Eclipse gt and the paint is coming off. The roof and the hood paint is almost down to the base metal. I have also seen other Eclipse with the same issue.
The contact owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. When the contact bought the vehicle, she noticed that the paint was fading from gray to white. Through online research, she found a few complaints about the same defect on her vehicle. The dealer stated that there was a recall for the vehicle's paint, but her vehicle was excluded since it was purchased in 2006. The vehicle is currently at the insurance company, but would have to be repaired at the owner's expense. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 69,000.
Body paint on hood and trunk are deteriorating to the point that there are huge white patches showing through the black paint. The vehicle has been washed and waxed at least once a month for the past 6 years. The paint was obviously defective when it was applied to the vehicle in the factory. I contacted Mitsubishi and they declined to take action.

I have a 2004 black Mitsubishi Eclipse that the paint has been falling off of, just like several other complaints. The paint started delaminating about 3years ago and just progressed from there. The car looks horrible! Mitsubishi has been downright rude this matter. They will not fix the paint issue due to car being out of warranty.
The paint is coming off on select areas on my 2003 Eclipse syder gts. I am not the only person that has had this problem or documented it yet nothing seems to be happening to resolve it. If Mitsubishi cut corners in the painting of these cars and it backfired then they need to fix the problem. They gambled and lost. It seems to be dominant in the 2003 black Eclipses.
I purchased the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse new off the lot in April 2003. I have taken care of the car with regular washes and attempts to keep it clean. Last year started noticing light grey spots developing on the top of the car behind the sun roof. Now ,just a year later, the spots increased and are now located all over the car. Every day they appear to be getting wide r and larger in size. I have had many paint chips knocked off the front of the car in just normal driving conditions and those spots are now also starting to rust. I am very upset about this as I spent good money on this car thinking it would be a reputable company. I have never had a car this new start experiencing such paint problems. There is no excuse for this. I have completed research online about the paint problems with Mitsubishi, and it appeared I wa s not alone. There have been many owners of Mitsubishi cars that have complained of a paint problem, (especially with the black paint, in the year my car was manufactured. I would never purchase another Mitsubishi after this experience and would never recommend anyone purchase one as Mitsubishi is not being cooperative in fixing or admitting there is even a problem when obviously there is. There was no way without a new paint job that I could even sell my vehicle and make my money off of it. I am so extremely disappointed with Mitsubishi and their product.
There was no incident, crash or injury. I purchased a black 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, in 2005, which had 40000 mi on nit. The paint was ok at time of purchase. Unknown to me, Mitsubishi vehicles from 1999-2004 have defective primer which causes the paint to flake off in large quantities. I had the vehicle less than a year when the paint starting coming off. The manufacturers aware of the problem, but only fixes some of the vehicles. My claim was denied. I believe these vehicles should be recalled due to defective paint.
Paint on car is flaking off. Many people have had the same problem with mistsubishi models.
Bought a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse new. About 3 years later noticed the paint was starting to come off the roof. Took it to the dealership and they said sorry it is not covered, it was probably due to hot texas sun. They did not even log the complaint. That dealership closed later on. Now my paint is off over most of the car and is very ugly. It is down to the metal. I am embarrassed to drive it but tell anyone who will listen that while still under warranty, Mitsubishi refused to repaint it. Also all the dashes crack in them. Mine within the first 3 years. There are too many complaints about the black paint on many of the 1999-2005 for there not to be something done about it. My car is almost 9 years old and still has less the 60,000 miles on it. Please someone help all of us drivers with black mitsubishes. I will never buy another.
The paint on my new vehicle began peeling off the hood in quarter-sized chunks as I was washing it by hand. Although the dealer initially attempted to deny responsibility, they reluctantly agreed to repaint hood, acknowledging that there was an "adherence issue. " I discovered through a source in the Mitsubishi factory that there was a "lot" of cars that they failed to place an e-seal on prior painting. When my VIN was checked, my source discovered that it was one of the vehicles in that "lot. " I was told to expect further paint issues with the doors in the near future by this source. This information was not disclosed to me prior to purchase or when I took the vehicle in for repair. In fact, it was only my persistence that resulted in my vehicle's hood being repainted. The vehicles in the lot should be recalled ! I paid over $31,000. 00 for this vehicle, and I should not have to be concerned about defective and/or shoddy painting at the factory. Please help me find this internal memoranda that governs my vehicle so I can further pursue this issue with the manufacturer. Or, if you can be of assistance in rectifying this cover-up. , I would be very grateful. My dream car has turned out to be a real disappointment. Owns a black Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000 and the paint was peeling badly around the sun roof, the doors, and the hood was gone. I had the spoiler replaced when it was under warranty back in 2002, and now that was peeling already. I am wondering what I can do this get this problem corrected. Also the dashboard is falling apart. I have never seen a car fall apart like this.
