On second day of ownership I heard a very loud metal cracking sound while sitting in the car preparing to drive. Car was not started or moving). Upon inspection there was no visible defect. About a week later I had an identical experience. This time I noticed a crack in the body seam located on the driver's side door. The door would no longer close properly , and I immediately scheduled a repair appointment. The dealership adjusted the door and assured me that the crack in the frame was only cosmetic. The crack was filled and painted and seems to be holding, but there is a leak in the door that leaves water on the door sill plate every time it rains or I wash the car. I am in the process of having additional repairs for that now.

Both door handles fell off during normal operation. I can not get in my car. The dealership informed me the parts are 73. 55 each and the labor would be 250 dollars. The cheap plastic fell off and they want me to buy more of it! this is not covered under warranty. I feel ripped off by Mitsubishi and will never buy another one. Oh and by the way my car doors dripped the same black tar substance other consumers have complained about. The dealership in charlotte nc did correct this problem w/ no charge.

6 blowouts 4 rims all on the front drivers side there are scratches all along the drivers side by the tire. The drivers side door doesn't align. This has been happening since the 2nd day I financed the car. And I found out that my strut was blown which may of caused all the scratches. Dealership said it was my fault but I have a picture to proof those scratches were there the 2nd day I had the car. I just had another blowout this morning about a foot away from entering the highway. Incident from 10/2001-to today.

When the driver's side window is in the full upward position, the door is hard to open/close; the glass gets stuck in the window molding. Took to dealer, who replaced window molding, but really didn't work. Will take back to dealer. Seems to be a design problem.

Fuel relay switch on my mitsuibishi Eclipse 1997 GS has failed on several occasions. In order to get my car to start, I have to go under the hood, "wiggle" the relay switch and lightly tap on the top of it. This fuel relay has been replaced by dealer and the problem continues to occur, even causing the car to go dead during travel. Dealership claims they do not know why it occurs. (20+ occurrences)
enormous amounts of "bluish" gas fumes coming from the tail pipe, regardless of idle or in motion. (always occurring)
sunroof sticks (5-10 occurrences)
both driver and passenger windows rattle when car is in motion and as the door is being shut (continuous occurrence)
clutch failure, hard shifting (1 occurrence).

Paint peeling off bumper. Clear coat peeling off drivers side rocker panel.
My complaint is about the blend do for the heating system of the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. When the temperature control knob is rotated to the hot position, a cable behind the dashboard and directly over the accelerator pedal rotates the blend door lever toward the firewall. A pin on the lever, which connects to the cable, engages my shoe, pinning my shoe to the accelerator pedal. To free my shoe, I must either rotate my heel clockwise to disengage the pin, or rotate the temperature control knob to the cold position. I believe this creates an unsafe driving condition and, the first time it occurred, I temporarily lost control of the car while attempting to free my foot. Manufacturer's response I first reported the problem to Mitsubishi by letter dated March 7, 2003. Shortly thereafter, I was telephoned by the dealer who invited me to bring the car to the dealership for a demonstration for the factory rep, larry wittren. That demonstration occurred on April 4, 2003. The company's resulting position was as follows: 1. Any corrective action for my vehicle would be at my expense, or at the dealers expense if the dealer wishes to incur any liability that could result from modification;2. That comfort issues are not the responsibility of the manufacturer, even though I clearly stated that this is not a comfort issue; rather, one of safety; 3. That the manufacturer cannot be held responsible for accidents as the result of wearing a work boot to drive the car, even though I never claimed that the problem is the result of wearing boots, work shoes or any other bulky footwear. Was Mitsubishi suggesting that people who wear riding boots on weekends or steel toed shoes to work should not purchase Mitsubishi products?I believe that Mitsubishi has created a safety hazard in the design of the blend door lever. I further believe that they are capable of redesigning the lever without a pin that engages the driver's shoe.

Driver's side door handle fell off while getting into vehicle. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.
Passenger door handle came off when opened normally, 2 weeks later drivers side came off under same conditions, very poor material or engineering.
Adhesive was dripping from passenger's door and driver's door to bottom of door panel. Dealer had no solution.
Mitsubishi said both doors need to be torn down and all the glue/insulation removed and recoated and it would take at least a week and expensive. My car can't be the only one this is happening to. I have to keep duct tape on the bottom of both doors to keep it from running into the car and outside of the car. I'm extemely upset. Dt.
While consumers daughter was getting into automobile, she attempted to open door and both handles fell off. . Consumer stated the temperature was very hot and the door handles just fell off, also the windows will not roll up.
Passenger door does not seal due to obstruction of window. Whatever regulates how far the window goes up is missing/broken.

Door handles are poorly designed. They break very easily and can not be opened from outside in case of accident.
Steering wheel shakes at seventy, dealer refused to fix the problem; doors leak and dealer refuses to fix as well; rims easily bend.
Both doors are leaking a glue like substance, and it is causing doors to stick. Consumer feels that in an accident consumer may not be able to exit vehicle. Consumer has contacted dealer 5 times, and each time dealer cleans off glue substance, then, within a week sticking starts again. Please provide any further information.
Both doors hold water causing windows to constantly remain wet during typical use. This will be a major hazard in the winter time if there is any moisture in the atmoshere or if the vehicle is washed as normal. Because the water collects every time it rains or the car is washed, the water that collects causes a very strong , terrible smell that only goes away after the windows are not used and the car has been pulled over and allowed to air out by opening all doors, etc. It is to the point now that the smell is even there when the windows are barely used even in dry weather. It is repulsive!!! very disappointing for me to have happen in a new car!.
My car is leaking black sealing on both doors. The black sealant melts from somewhere inside the door plastic cover and comes out on the bottom. It hardens and looks like sticky tar. Tried to clean it, but it will not scrub off or scrape off cleanly. First time I saw little black spots, I brought it up to the dealership to ask if this would be a part of my warrenty coverage. I read my warrenty book many times and I couldn't find that type of defect any where listed. The guy told me that it's not covered under warrenty, and since the spots were so little, he told me to go home and clean it off and the spots won't come back. Next summer came around and it got worse. Now it looks like a bunch of glumped tar all over the bottom panel of the doors. I brought it back to the dealership and the service tech told me if I had brought it under warrenty, they could have repaired it at no charge. But because I'm over my warrenty limit, I would have to pay a little over $200. 00 per door for repairs. I advised him the prior year I had came and asked, one of there service techs told me it was "not" under warrenty that's why the problem was never fixed. He stated there was nothing he could do. I am extremely upset, that I was given false info at first and now I can't even get my doors fixed unless I pay out of my pocket for a defect that is not mine. I hope that there will be a resolution to this problem better than what was offered at the dealership.
Doors hold water and mildew and freeze in winter, dealer has been unable to correct the problem, a fix is said to be in development but a timeline is unknown, mildew smell can be quite strong in warm weather. While not directly a saftey concern, in time rust and deterioration could cause problems with doors in accidents I would think.
While opening the door, the handle broke off. Dealer has been contacted.

Both doors leak water onto door sill. All seals replaced 3 times by dealer. Leak still occurs. If car is jacked up on one side water leaks through speaker cover onto floor. Hopless to fix correctly?.
Black sealant dripping from bottom of both interior door panels onto sill plates. No safety defect (s) listed in the summary.
Consumer is concerned with the presence of excessive amounts of mold in the doors of the vehicle.
Door on driver side leaks sealant-have taken to dealer 4 times. 1st excuse was the heat was melting it (s. Texas)--it's not that hot anymore. . . . Also, stereo cd player is not playing cd's--it spits them out. Will take to dealer again.
The door handle failed.
