Takata recall (for one problem) airbag light came on - took in and they said the switch under passenger seat had become disconnected - fixed by Nissan dealership within two days, airbag light back on - took in and they were getting codes for driver seat airbag - Nissan recommended replacing air bag diagnostic unit. Within another two days of this repair, the air bag diagnostic unit giving same code. Now, recommending replacing driver seat airbag. Dealership indicates that while these error codes are firing, the airbag system would not go off in an accident.

3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/14/2018

I was driving around a little while and when I came to a stop at a stop light I pushed my gas pedal to accelerate forward and my car did not move, as I pushed my gas pedal all the way to the floor my car would very lightly move. Finally after moving barely forward my car would go , I had cars almost hit me and people getting enraged I am not moving, this is an ongoing problem now, it happens often and sometimes causing a very serious and dangerous situation. After doing my research many of owners of this year make and model are having the same issue but yet nothing to come out from Nissan for recall. I read if you turn your car off and back on it will reset and then the car goes just fine till the next time and that does work but that is dangerous as well. I bought this car as I thought it would be a safe car for my children and myself. This has been a dangerous issue . When we drive it in the heat it happens worst and then will be on the freeway and it will rev the engine really high and not switch down. Please Nissan tell me you are going to do something for your loyal customers this is the third Nissan I have owned. And I have the airbag issue . It wont pick up my son sitting there and he is 160 lbs.

4 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/02/2018

Purchased this vehicle from the original owner. Saw that the front passenger air bag "off" indicator light stayed on when the front passenger seat was occupied along with the air bag warning light blinking in the instrument panel (all the time). Upon investigating the issue, I found that the "varistor" in the OCS control unit (occupant classification system) in the front passenger seat was bad. This varsitor is the switch that engages the front passenger air bag when the seat is occupied. This was recalled for 2007 Nissan Altimas under NHTSA campaign number: 08v521000. I contacted Nissan north America about the issue and was told my car (by VIN) was not affected. When I questioned why I was having the exact same issue as the recall, I was told that the customer service representative for my region would call me. When I was contacted, I was told that my car was already checked and that there was not a problem. When I asked how my car was checked when I was told it wasn't affected, I was told I could take it to any dealer and they would be able to diagnose/repair the issue. When I asked about the recall and the cost for repair the rep. Told me my car was "x" months and "x" miles out of warranty. I explained that I was looking for a required safety device to be repaired not a alternator or water pump. The representative was very smug and basically told me too bad. I asked if it would take somebody being injured in one of their cars with this issue for them to do the right thing but again was told to take it to any dealership for repair. The representative would not even hear that the issue in my car could be related to the recall issue. Photo taken with me sitting in the front passenger seat.

5 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/23/2016

The passenger side airbag activation mechanism in some of 2013 Nissan Altima doesn't work properly. Nissan already had two recalls on it but they never able to fix it. Even if someone is sitting on passenger side, the airbag light on the dashboard is activated randomly, that means airbag will not open in case of crash. It is a very serious flaw. In the recent recall they simply made a s/w update to flip the airbag light switch on/off logic. Nothing was done to fix the core issue. It again randomly switches on/off when a person is sitting. I have talked to Nissan and they don't seem to care about it. They are just trying to hide or circumvent this issue or trying to tell customers that there is no issue at all. It has been more than three years and Nissan is not fixing this issue . Everytime they will say it's fixed either after recall or repair but in reality they are just trying to circumvent it through s/w upgrades.

6 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

The passenger airbag light turns off (light switches on) even when a passenger is in the carseat. The problem was consistent around 1. 5 years back and there was a Nissan recall that resolved the problem after 2 attempts. By consistent, I mean the air bag was definitely switched off regardless of whether a passenger is present or not. Now the problem is back although the light does not turn off consistently. Sometimes the light is off and sometimes it is on. I wrote to Nissan about this. Unfortunately, my car just went off warranty and the diagnosis itself is $161.

7 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/08/2014

New purchased 2014 Nissan Altima sv 2. 5 with cloth interior experiences 'passenger air-bag off' light illuminating with 132 pound 5 foot 7 inch adult female occupant in passenger seat. Light displays with occupant sitting in normal straight position with feet square on floor, back centered on backrest, and arms to her sides. Problem replicates during successive trips on same and different days. Returned vehicle to dealership at approximately 150 miles. Dealership performed diagnostics demonstrating no problems detected within fault codes and verified seat installed correctly. Case opened with Nissan customer service and vehicle returned with 386 miles on odometer for Nissan field engineer testing. Service documentation from testing states removed seat and checked for OCS c/v and strain sensor lot numbers, harnesses and connectors checked, re-torqued seat frame to floor pan per esm se-31, performed zero point reset, and confirmed OCS switching rates. All information determined proper with no defects found. Problem replicated in second 2014 Altima sv with same adult female (utilizing dealership provided 2014 Altima with same trim levels as loan during engineering test). Nissan customer service states problem is closed with no defect found. No further reviews will be conducted. All attempts requesting additional assistance have failed to date.

8 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

So I have been having this problem ever since I purchased this vehicle. The passenger air bag off switch turns on while an adult is sitting in the seat and car is being driven. I have brought it in for repairs 4 seperate times. The first time they preformed a "zero point" reset. A few days went by and it did it again. I took it back 2 times after that and they kept saying they could not duplicate the problem even though I have video of it on my phone. So I took it to a different dealership to see what they would say about it and the many other problems I am experiencing. They had my car for 10 days. I personally spoke and test drove with the technician and he told me he preformed the zero point reset again. But when I picked it up the paperwork only states that they could not reproduce the problem and no work was preformed. But last night the same night I picked it up it did it again and again I have video evidence of it switching off while sitting in it and driving. This is a huge safety issue, and someone needs to makes Nissan fix it. Oh and the loaner car which was a 2013 Nissan rogue did the same exact thing and I have 2 viedos of it.

9 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2012 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

Our 2012 Nissan Altima's passenger airbag light will shows the airbag being inactive while a person is sitting in the passenger seat. All people who have sat in this seat this issue occurred are over 120 pounds. Twice we took the car to the planet Nissan in las vegas where we purchased the car. Their service department said since the issue can be replicated they cannot do anything to fix the issue. This has happened at least a 100 hundreds times in the past two years of ownership. Every time we call a dealership we hear the same answer unless we can see the problem and duplicate it we cannot help you. The issue is the airbag light can be lit (showing airbag to active) and on the way to the dealership the light goes out and we are back to square one. After two years of getting nowhere with this we took video of the last time it happened. We brought this to autonation Nissan in las vegas and they check the wiring harness said it is not loos there is nothing else we can do unless we can duplicate the issue. We logged a complaint with Nissan USA hq and received the same response, sorry we cannot help you nay further. With all the recent and past Nissan airbag recalls I am shocked at their lack of wanting to do something extra to troubleshoot the the problem. I have researched many car forums and this is a common problem with Nissan, they push the consumer away with the typical cannot replicate the problem therefore it isn't one. At this point there is no guarantee anyone sitting in the passenger seat is safe in a head on crash. Is it going to take a person's death for Nissan to step up and make this right? this eerily reminiscent of gm not acting on the faulty ignition switches in a timely manner.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

1) the low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. The lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. Objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. Street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify if they are not near street lights. This issue has been present since buying the car, which has been to the dealer multiple times for adjustment, but they insist that the lights are set within specs. The high beams provide excellent lighting, but when switched to low for an oncoming vehicle, I am suddenly driving without sufficient light. This is such a frightening problem that I prefer not to drive this car at night. I can't believe that these lights meet safety standards. 2) the passenger side air bag light often indicates that the bag is not activated even when there is an adult sitting in the seat. This was supposedly repaired in a recall 5/2014, but continues to happen. The dealer says "don't worry about it," that the bag will deploy if needed. I have no way of knowing if that is the case and I believe this is a safety concern.

11 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/02/2008

Purchased a 2007 Nissan Altima 2. 5s. 1. First problem started when I heard a loud rattling noise when I start the car (this was 2 months after I bought the car). Increase rpm to 1. 5 rpm to get a louder, crisper noise. Took it to the dealer and was told that the heat shield was cracked and needed to be replaced. Took 2 weeks for the dealer to fix the problem. Noise went away. 2. Noise came back again 2 weeks later after it was fixed. Brought it to a different dealership to have it checked out to get different opinion. Finds out the heat shield was installed incorrectly. Resolved, and later told me that there was many complaints about this noise. 3. Had a 110lb passenger on the front passenger seat and the air bag off light turned on. Have yet to go to the dealer to see why this is happening. 4. After all this, I start the car on December 10th, 2008 and did not warm up car. When starting to accelerate car on street, clicking noises started to emerge. Was wondering if there was a problem with the clutch motor or the belt. Noise starts disappearing when the car is warmed up (after 8 minutes) decided to test it out by warming up the car first later in the day after it had cooled down, and then driving it, clicking sound emerged again. Bought it to the dealership, and told them to make sure to check noise when the car is cold (giver or take 3 hours), they did not listen and checked it when warm, when there is no clicking occurs. Deemed fine. 5. Brake squeals once in a while when used. Have yet to check this one out to the dealership. 6. On a morning of Jan. 2, 2008, I have started the car only to notice that the air mode has switched from defrost/foot air mode to foot mode. I thought the air control unit was supposed to memorize the last time I had the mode on but once every often, it switches back to the foot air mode plus turning on the a/c every time the car starts. Computer problem maybe? have yet to go to the dealership for this.

14 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/08/2007

I was just wondering if they have been a concern with 2007 Nissan's, my air bag seems to come on and off when it wants to I didn't know if this was the way they work or if there is a problem with it. Because when some one is on the passenger side it goes on and off constant. I will put a date in, but cant be correct if it is the correct date but I purchased mine in may 2007 I noticed it about a few months later.

15 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2003 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/22/2005

June 01, 2005 I purchased a 2003 Nissan Altima on April 14,2005 from crown Nissan in birmingham alabama. On may 22, 2005 the vehicle stalled/ stopped while driving down the highway. On Monday morning I again had to have the car towed to the dealer. Mrs. Drew told me the technicians that checked out my car have been employed there more than twenty years, and they found nothing wrong, and if the computer cannot pick up anything, there is nothing to fix. On that day may 23, 2005 I went to pick the car up from crown Nissan, and drove it home. On may 27, 2005 while on my way to work the vehicle stopped on me again. My car arrived at the dealership that morning at approximately 9:00 am. After leaving three voice messages, and several phone calls, I finally reached mr. Dan at 2:16 pm who then told me there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, that the battery was drained possible because of the hazard lights being on. Dan contacted the sales department who agreed to give me car to drive over the weekend; he stated he would check my car again on Tuesday may 31, 2005 to see if he found anything wrong with it. He then told me there was someone out driving my car then and they had replaced a ãƒâ¢ã‚ã‚crank switchãƒâ¢ã‚ã‚쳜 in the car he explained was something that would keeps the car from starting or makes the car cut of while in the process of it being on, mr. Dan said he would try to have my car ready for me on that day. I went to the dealership that evening to pick up my vehicle, and turned in the vehicle I was given to drive. Car stopped on Sunday July 10, 2005 and was returned to crown on July 11, 2005, was driven 249 miles by service department (no problems detected). Returned back to m. M. Peterson on Thursday July 14, 2005, stopped again on Monday July 18,2005 (returned to crown).
