Side/window Air Bag Problems of Nissan Altima - part 1

Driver search airbag warning light illuminated took vehicle to authorized central houston Nissan whi scanned vehicle and found dtc b0020-13 stored in airbag system. Printed and followed the esm diagnosis procedure and per esm will need to start replacing the driver side airbag module wich is part of the seat assy this is of no fault of my own and not the result of normal wear and tear. My car is not safe to drive and will not pass state inspection due to this safety hazard. Without costly repair which is not covered by Nissan, airbags will not function properly and pose significant road and passenger safety hazard.

I was recently informed by two Nissan dealerships that the front passenger side air bag is not designed to deploy for passengers weighing less than 140 pounds. I understand that this is designed to protect children; however, there are many, many adults weighing less than 140 pounds and this would put them at significant risk for injury in an accident. The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while the front passenger's seat was occupied, the occupant classification system failed to register that the seat belt was in use. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic and was informed that there was a possible recall on the vehicle related to the failure. Twin city Nissan (3247 alcoa hwy, alcoa, TN 37701, (865) 970-4132) was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The dealer diagnosed that the passenger's side air bag failed and that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,430.

Driver side air bag malfunctioning. This safety feature is off. I spoke with oak ridge Nissan and rusty wallace Nissan. Both dealerships have advised the car is out of warranty on this item. In the event of an accident, without this feature, it could cause death. My plan is to let Nissan have the car back. This car has had multiple issues since date of purchase. It is a lemon.

The driver side airbag is lit when starting and remains lit while driving. My concern is the airbag will deploy on it's own without impact or possible will not deploy upon impact.

I was heading south bound on rt 83. Front driver side tire blew out & my side air bags deployed. Thier was no impact to the vehicle.

Brought my car to lia Nissan of saratoga NY June 29th 2018. The did a recall replacement of my passenger side airbag occupant sensor, since then, and before the year was out, the part has gone bad again. Brought to dealer, the service manager states that because I didn't bring it in before the year warrantied date, they need to charge me a $119 diagnostic fee. The part to replace the occupant sensor costs $45 retail. I do not feel I should be responsible to pay a fee for a part that is known to have multiple failures.

Vehicle air bag system fault light is illuminated and the dealer determined the driver side air bag module to be shorted out and therefore requires replacement. The dealer advised that the air bag system is now deactivated due to the fault. Module was not currently in stock and unable to be replaced at time of service.

Tl the contact owned a 2017 Nissan Altima. While the contact was traveling as a passenger at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle was struck on the front driver's side by another vehicle. All the frontal and side air bags deployed. Police report number: 18002915 was filed. The driver and contact were injured and transported to the hospital via ambulance. The contact stated that the air bags deployed with excessive force and fragments of glass and gravel struck her face. Both occupants were treated and released. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 33,100.

The driver side airbag deployed without any impact upon making a right turn, subsequently, the driver lost control of the vehicle with airbag deployment making it impossible to and ran over a curb causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

I just called Nissan. On June 8 18 I took my car to chandler Nissan for pre purchase inspection. They said it had a recall for the transmission, checked it and said everything looked fine. I received a quote on the extended warranty while there. I later called and emailed to extend my warranty but kept getting the run around. Fast forward to this weekend, getting on the freeway no acceleration at all. Rpm just through the roof. Its done that a few times now, since the day I bought it (after inspection) it would lag to accelerate just not totally like it did now. I'm a girl and thought that was normal it just didn't pick up and go and whined a little. Todays miles = 61850. Called Nissan, they will look into it and get back to me. . . The car had 57468 miles at the time of inspection and was under warranty. The other issue was about a month ago, before I hit 60k the side airbag alert went off. After restarting the car it disappeared. Took it to midway Nissan and they said could be a faulty sensor or could be a defect in the airbag but its not covered under warranty. They quoted $1400 to fix that. I forgot to tell the Nissan rep that when I called but I will do so when they call me back. Hoping they will be helpful. I will update as I get more info.

On my way to work on a rainy day, I was making a turn at a intersection. I loss control of my car & hit a tree. The driver side airbag didn't deployed when my car hit a tree. I was transported to the westchester medical center trauma er. I sustained a fractured sternum & bruised ribs.

2016 Nissan Altima. Consumer writes in regards to defective passenger side airbag and defective keyless push button. The consumer stated other failures included rear doors opening independently, engine was loud, tire pressure sensors were inoperable, and the emergency communication lights were constantly lit. The consumer stated all the repairs were to be repaired under recall. The consumer was unsure that the dealer actually completed the recalls as it only took an hour to be completed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the passenger side air bag sensor light remained illuminated and did not shut off while an adult passenger occupied the seat. The contacted indicated that the light remained illuminated at all times while operating the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. Takata recall passenger side airbag sensor is functioning abnormally. It will show the airbag off when there is no one and nothing in the seat at times and then will show the airbag to be functioning at others. It will also be erratic when I am sitting in the passenger side. I weight 120 lbs. Most times the airbag will show it is off and only register on for brief periods.

We have not received any recalls since purchase of car. On 06/30/17,my daughter called and informed me the car was having problems. What she described sounded as if there was water in the gas. Itold her to drive to the dealer in conway ar. It was brought to our attention there was a recall on the cvt. They reprogramed it and test drove the car. They said it was ok ,but were a little iffy about whether we might have more problems. In the meantime I found out there were several recalls on the car,including the passenger side air bag and the hood latch. These were serious safety problems ,in and we had received no recalls. We would appreciate any assistance you may help with. She said it sounded as if it would blow up,at the time. She brought the car home(3. 5 hr. Drive)and after a brief stop,it would not budge. I loaded the car on a trailor and took it to the dealer in jonesboro ar. Itold the service man about it and that I had contacted NHTSA and was assigned a case #27278124,but he didn't seem too interested in it. I later found the recall on the passenger side air bag. The conway people said they preformed the hood latch recall. P. S,ialso was told the cvt recall was internal.

Niissan has tried to repair the passenger side airbag four(4) times. Intermittently turns off with passenger in front passenger seat. They have tried everything, but will not take car back. This was a recall already issued. To make matters worse my rental car is a 2017 Nissan Altima & it does the same thing. This happens when car is in motion or parked & running. This is a problem since June 2016. All videoes are too long to add.

The OCS passenger side airbag sensor is no longer working. Nissan has refused to make any necessary repairs to ensure the safety of the vehicle. Nissan rep. Quinn, first claim it was due to mileage. The second call, from yesterday, she stranded it was a warranty issue. Given the continuing issues with the sensor, the interest of public safety and the lack of assistance with repairs, it is necessary to report this defect to the nhtsha.

Have had 2 factory recalls for pass. Side airbag not being activated with pass. In the seat. Still having the same problem sometimes. The dealer stated I would be charged if they cannot duplicate the problem. This has been a safety issue for the past 2 years. Thank goodness we have not been in a accident that needed the use of the pass. Airbag when it was deactivated.

While traveling at any rate of speed on freeway or city street the light for the passenger side airbag goes off and on whether someone is sitting in the seat or not.

Passenger side airbag is off when a person is in the passenger seat at the start of the drive,then after about 10 miles the passenger airbag off lamp goes off. This vehicle had service for passenger airbag when new.

I have had an issue with the passengers side airbag for 3 years now. You can have a 140 up to a 300 pound passenger in the seat and the air bag turns off. I have been jerked around by the dealer and Nissan America. They can't get it to turn the light on. . I have it on videos not working. . They have re-flashed it several times or I was told they have. The car is not safe for a passenger to be in. Per Nissan yesterday 8/8/2016 a new recall is coming. This has been 3 years now and the car is now past the warranty period. . I am sure they will try to charge me now. . . Would you put a loved one in that seat knowing the air bag may not work??? Nissan was to call me again today 6/9/2016 and still has not happened. . Time to replace all the sensors and the controllers. . .

Takata recall - took my vehicle in to have the OCS system software updated due to the recall and was told that that the I needed to replace the OCS sensors in order for the passenger airbags, to work properly. Dealer said that this was not covered under the recall and said that it would cost $300. Left with the same problem that I had before, I went in for the so called software upgrade. In the event of an accident, chances are that the passenger side airbag, will not be deployed!! why are they trying to make me pay for a defective product that should be covered under the recall??,.

Car in motion passager side air bag senor comes on and says off when someone setting in seat.

When stationary and driving, the front passenger side airbag says off when my wife is sitting in the front passenger seat. She weighs 106 lbs. The light will go off eventually but comes on all the time she is sitting in the seat. It goes on whether on a city street or highway at any speed.

Passanger side air bag no longer works, the air bag says its off and malfunctioned. Will not show when someone is sitting inn the seat. Thus never setting the passanger air so if you get into an accident it would not deploy. When the air bag malfunctioned it was sitting in the driveway we turned it on and the light came on and has never went out.

The seats were removed in order to clean the carpet and upholstery in the car when the side air bags went off. The car was sitting stationary and was not moving at the time.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicated that the passenger side seat was occupied when there was no occupant. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag senor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 19,875.

I'm having and issues with the passenger side airbag not engaging when I have a passenger in the front seat, not registering that there is someone sitting in the seat. . Another issues is water saturating the passenger floor boards all the way to the back seat when is rains outside.

The contact was a passenger in a 2010 Nissan Altima. While the contact was seated in the front passenger seat, another vehicle crashed into the rear driver side of the vehicle occupying the contact. While driving alone on 03/12/2015 noticed the airbag auxiliary light come on in my new 2015 Nissan Altima. The Altima was serviced for this on 03/18/2015 and the light was reset with the technician stating the passenger side airbag sensor was under recall. Then, while driving on 03/22/2015 the airbag auxiliary light came on once again, also when I was the only occupant in the vehicle. The Altima was serviced again for this issue on 03/25/2015 where the technician stated objects left on the passenger seat (laptop bags, etc. ) can cause the sensor to go off and that it's a known issue. They recommended to not put anything onto the passenger seat aside from an adult person. Although I have placed a bag onto the passenger seat a couple of times while driving, the airbag auxiliary light never came on while anything or anyone was in the passenger seat. Then again today, 03/26/2015, the airbag auxiliary light came back on in my 2015 Nissan Altima while I was driving with nothing/no one in the passenger seat.
