Front Air Bag Problems of Nissan Altima - part 1

I was driving my 2005 Nissan Altima north in the left lane of a 2 lane road approaching an intersection (I was alone in the car). An SUV was heading south and was stopped in the turn lane to make a left turn. As I was entering the intersection (green light) the SUV turned in front of my car. The distance was too short to stop. I hit their right front passenger side by the tire head on. I was driving approx. 30 mph. The damage to my car was to the center front end. The front end was pushed in and the hood buckled. Upon impact, my passenger airbag deployed but my driver side didn't. I had a small purse in the passenger seat. The police, tow driver, mechanic and auto assessor all said they have never seen this happen with the airbags. My car was declared a total loss. The damage was too expensive to repair. I was luckly to not be injured. I am very concerned that if the impact was more severe, I had no protection and could have been injured. I have photos of the accident and what was on the passenger seat as well as a statement from the auto repair mechanic saying that he has never seen this situation where the wrong airbag deployed.

The air bag on the passenger is not working. The seat cushion of the seat is the problems ( I was told). The cushion cost $900. 00. The airbag has a defect in it. I looked on the world wide web and noticed several complints of the same probelm. There is a recall on some of the altama. This is a big problems.

Passenger air bag disabled light comes on intermittently with an adult in the passenger seat exposing the passenger to the possibility of no air bag deployment in a collision. Dealer refuses to repair the problem as he cannot recreate the problem. I have advised him that I have video of the problem and he won't look at it. On 7/28/2010 I notified Nissan, cert. Mail return receipt and gotten an case number [xxx]. The auto has 11,200 miles and this problem was originally reported to Nissan 7/28/2010. On my 2004 Nissan Altima 2. 5, due to some one crashing into me , the passenger airbag deployed then caught on fire.

Air bags didn't deploy. Another vehicle did a illegal u-turn in front of me causing me to t-bone her. Approx mph 30-35.

My 2007 Nissan Altima 2. 5 s has had a ongoing problem for more then a year now. The problem is when a passenger is in the passenger seat, the light stating air bag is off comes on. The individuals in the seat are over 100 pounds in weight. Nissan has told me the problem is with the way we are sitting and that the airbag "should" work. Should is not a option. The car has been in many times to no avail, including a "expert" from Nissan to fix the problem. Car is going back for the documented 6th time on this concern.

When adult passenger is sitting in the passenger side front seat intermittently the air bag off light goes on, even though the passenger is sitting upright in the seat with legs extended in front of them as they should be. Passenger seat replaced by Nissan service department with 2009 model seat. This is the third seat replacement.

Passenger air bag on passenger side shows disabled with my kids that are over 110 lbs in the seat. I had the dealer review the problem and was told that there was not an issue. Was told to look in the manual and that the person had to sit in the seat correctly or they are to light. The seating was not the problem, the car is. The dealer also stated that the air bag bladder in the seat is very easy to miss if not sitting fully in the back of the seat, wrong the person is sitting fine. If I stop the car put in park and back in drive the airbag re-activates. This has happened with multiple people multiple times mostly during the first drive of the day.

The passenger airbag system will not activate when a person occupies the passenger seat. The occupant weighs more the 100lbs and sits in a normal fashion on the seat. Dealer inspected but did not find anything out of the ordinary. This is a serious safety risk for a passenger in this car.

My wife wrecked her 2005 Altima. The car just all of sudden left the road and she couldn't control or stop it.

When we were taught how to drive we were told to place our hands at the 10 and 2 o'clock position on the steering wheel. If that is where your hands are at the deployment of an airbag it throws your left arm against the windshield and it's frame which results in broken arms and wrists. I think there should be a warning for this.

Purchased 2007 Nissan Altima and passenger airbag system stopped functioning approx 350 miles on odometer. Have been waiting for 3 weeks plus to get repaired and not getting much resonse from Nissan.

The contact stated the airbag sdeployed when the vehicle was involved in an accident. The deployment caused injury to the contact's hand. The vehicle has been towed to dealer for repairs.

While stopped in traffic in sevierville, tennessee on 2/12/2005, my 2005 Altima was hit in the rear by a car that failed to stop. The driver of that car was determined to be at fault by police. Four vehicles were involved in the accident with my car being the most damaged. Police estimated the car that hit me was going approximately 30-35 mph. At impact. The impact drove my car forward into the vehicle in front of me. The rear of my car was destroyed and the front impact was hard enough that the radiator was burst and front suspension members and the hood were crumpled. At no time during the accident did either of the front air bags in my Altima deploy! however, the seat belts did lock in position and probably saved us from more serious injury. Injuries for those in my car (four people) consisted of cuts, scrapes and bruises accompanined with soreness. Since it is only two days since the accident, there may be other possible problems arise. I thought air bags were suppose to deploy in cases such as this? I note from research that Nissan has had numerous complaints and problems with their air bag failures. Something needs to be done to stop this!.

My car was struck by another driver while crossing an intersection. My bumper and headlights were both torn from the car, but the airbag in my Nissan Altima gxe (98) did not deploy. I was treated at an urgent care center for neck, back and arm pain that day.

This car has been a lemon since day one, in and out of dealership for one reason or the other, it started with the car running hard, dealership told me it was because I have broke the car in and now this is how they run, took it back again 3 to 4 more times with same problem,told them car idles high, shifts bad, runs bad, they said nothing wrong, I do alot of highway miles and as soon as I was over the miles and out of the warrenty they told me that the motor mounts were gone only 800 to get fixed, I was then hit by a car head on and really hurt I suffered major back problems , come to find out I probaby could have prevented some of the damage to my self if I had a saver car, my air bags didn;t deploy. I have had every recall to this car , the service men at the dealserships are the rudest men I have ever delt with. I was right the whole time !!!!! I have also experienced the same thing with the lights cost around 800 to fox kept changing the lights not to mentions the tickets I recieved from the cops , I explained to them the light keeps going out, they are like this is a 02 that doesn't happen, if they only knew!!! I am really tired of this car , now I was just told that the car has another problem, it over heats they think it might be the therostat but they don't know. How much money will that cost me??? I am one angry person when it comes to this car!!!!!!!.

Another vehicle ran a stop sign and consumer's vehicle hit that vehicle on the driver's side rear at about 15 mph. Upon impact, none of consumer's vehicle airbags deployed. Please provide any further information.

To whom it may concern: I was in a terrible car accicent on 11/1/00. Neither airbag deployed and I had damage on all four sides of the vehicle. The worst of the damage was in the front . . . The front of the car was gone down to the engine. This vehicle never drove well during the rain. In an ironic way, I am happy to know I am not the only one this has happend to. When I contacted the dealership,they refused to answer my questions & just said, "Nissan has a fail proof airbag deployment system. " I advised I had video type of the vehicle after he accident, but they didn't even want to see or acknowledge what had happend. Vehicle was sitting inside of the church parking lot. Another vehicle backed up in front of consumer's vehicle, and both airbags went off.

While pulling into a parking lot hit a small 12-inch wall with left side bumper, and airbag deployed.

While driving on street vehicle in front stoppped suddenly, and consumer rearended vehicle in front. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed.

Consumer was driving at normal speed and hit another vehicle. Upon impact, air bags deployed. However, consumer was not driving fast enough for the air bags to have deployed. Car filled with smoke making, it was hard to see the road.

While traveling 5 mhp tapped vehicle in front and frontal air bags deployed without any indications.

Brakes lost power and as the result had collision, no deployment of air bags during collision. Yh.

Vehicle was stopped at a red light and involved in a sandwich crash, vehicle was hit by other vehicle traveling about 42 mph, there was no deployment of the driver's or passenger's air bags. The vehilce is being repaired.

While driving consumer was involved in a collision. Air bags deployed. However, consumer hit head on windshield hard enough to spider crack it. Consumer sustained a minor concussion and bruising of the forearm and elbow, and strained her neck muscles.

While driving at 15 mph the defective driver's and passenger's airbags deployed while driving over a hump on the driveway causing unnecessary injuries to the occupant. Dealer stated the airbags deployed as necessary even without a direct frontal impact.

Driver hit the back side of another car and the air bag didn't deploy.

The car has dual airbags and the driver hit a telephone pole head-on and neither airbag deployed.

While driving at 25 mph, the vehicle had a frontal collision in which the air bag deployed and the front driver's seat came off, causing the occupant to be stuck in between the airbag and the seat, resulting in injuries to the occupant.
