38 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

The pass. Side air bag off light do not all ways turn off when someone is setting in pass. Seat. Nissan last year had a recall for this problem, they reloaded the OCS software for this problem. I have had 3 problem so far sense the recall. Most of the time there is no one but me in the car so I do not have a idea of how often it could had fail if someone was in the pass. Seat with every trip. I have only taken the car once to the dealer for this problem because the first time I did not think anything about it. The second time I took it to the dealer and after checking it out, they told me that there was noting they could or would do because they had no failure and that Nissan will not let them replace any parts unless there is a failure as Nissan will not pay for the item. Open ref. # 19611123 with Nissan and was told about the same thin, except Nissan said that it was the dealer call but they would not pay for no failure part replacement. I believe is a safety problem and someone with power should look into it, do to the fact there have already been a recall for this problem. No one I talk to at the dealer or on the phone to Nissan would or could do anything about it. The internet has many write up about this problem that no one will do anything about. I guess they are waiting for someone to be badly injured or killed to take the problem serious.

41 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

Since the purchase of the vehicle in sept 2014, I have had recurring issues with the passenger side air bag. When my daughter, who is 5'9" and weighs 150 lbs is in the seat the "air bag off" light will randomly illuminate. She is not fidgeting in her seat. She is sitting evenly in the seat and not moving. I have taken it to the Nissan dealer 4 times. The first two times they claimed to have read the error messages and reprogrammed it. The issue continued, the third time it was in, they replaced the sensor in the seat. The problem persisted after the sensor was replaced. I was then directed by the dealer to file a claim with Nissan. I did so and they dispatched a dealer service technician to evaluate the car. He claimed that he could not recreate the issue and that there was nothing that Nissan could do. His report indicated that the "system is working as designed". I received a copy of a technical service bulletin dated August 29, 2014 which states that occupant classification system (OCS) responds to different seating posture and may be operating normally. I was also told by the technician that if it happens to have the passenger get out and get back in to reset the system. I have never had a car where the passenger had to sit a certain way or get out of the car to make the air bags work properly!! I requested to have my case escalated to the next level and was told there was not a next level. The safety of my children is of extreme importance to me and I have no assurance that the system will work if tested. Unfortunately, the only way to test it would be to get in an accident. I do not want to take that chance!! I have requested a buy back from Nissan and am awaiting their response.

43 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

We have tried to have Nissan fix our passenger side airbag at least 3 times (one including for a safety recall issued) and the problem is still occurring. The dealership has replaced the sensor once and reprogrammed the computer system twice. The most recent time this occurred is the date above. The airbag is off when I am sitting in the seat and I am a 130 pound female. This doesn't happen every time I am in the passenger side but it could be off on a trip 15 minutes away from my house and on the way home it could be on. We have notified the dealership that this still occurs and we met with what they said was one of their "best technical experts" and were told that there is nothing wrong with our vehicle and they will do nothing about this problem because it is working to manufacturers specifications. They said it could be the way I am seated in the seat or the type of road we are driving on. We have multiple videos of me in the passenger seat, sitting upright, with the light on stating that my airbag is off.

45 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that with a 180 pound passenger seated in the front passenger seat, the air bag sensor light had illuminated indicating that the passenger side air bag was deactivated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer in July, 2014 and the front passenger air bag system was replaced. The failure continued to occurr and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who indicated that the system was operating as normal and no problem could be found. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000. Jft.

46 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

Re recall 14v-138. Took vehicle in on 6-19-2014. Reprogram of passenger side air bag sensor was performed by dealership service dept. Did not fix. Sensor deactivation light coming on again. Why is deactivation even a feature? needs removed/replaced so that air bag will deploy in collision whether seat is occupied or empty!.

47 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

Brought my car in when I received the recall notice from Nissan that the passenger side air bag had an issue due to a software glitch. After bringing the car in and having the software updated, a few days later, the light again came on while there was a passenger (myself, adult female about 130 lbs) in the passenger side seat (my husband was driving and noticed the light had come on). I reported it to the dealer where I had bought the car and had the recall repair made, they told me there were several other cars also reporting that the error continued even after having the software fix applied. They told me I'd have to bring the car in and they would try to duplicate the error and possibly replace a seat track, but would need to confirm with Nissan on whether or not they could do this. I think it is ridiculous that if they know there is an issue and know the fix did not fix it, they need to proceed with additional steps in order to resolve this failure in the safety equipment.

48 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

On the way to get a cup of coffee (less than one mile from my home) a car started coming into my lane. I swerved slightly to avoid a collision and my car went into the ditch and hit a telephone pole. Over $22,000 in damage. Radiator bent into an "l" shape. Side frames and engine went into the firewall, which totaled the car completely. I have spoken with Nissan corp. Air bag safety engineer, dealership owner, general manager, sales manager and they will not do anything about this $22,000 damage to the front end and none of the airbags deployed. Officer said driver airbag and side curtain and in seat airbags should have also deployed. They didn't and I was almost killed. The car was only 2 months old, no modifications, and very low miles. Kiro7 tv in seattle even did two stories on the crash and airbags not working and that Nissan had only recalled passenger airbags, not driver side airbags. . . Updated 07/16/14.

49 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

The passenger side airbag "off" light will illuminate when a passenger around 130 lbs sits in the passenger seat. When this occurs (about half of the time), the light illuminates upon engine startup and the passenger is seated. The only way to get the light to turn off is to shut off the car and restart it with the passenger still in the seat. The passenger airbag "off" light does not illuminate when I start the car first, and then the passenger sits in the seat. I have also noticed the light illuminate when my 5 lb work bag is in the passenger seat and I take a sharp turn around a highway ramp (turning for about 10 seconds). This all occurs even after the car was re-programed under recall 14v138000.

50 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

Dear sir or madam --¿¿ my 2010 Nissan Altima suffers from the same passenger side airbag deployment issues Nissan announced today, 3/26/2014, in later models (2013-2014). This suggests that the failure of airbags to deploy on Nissan vehicles is more widespread--and covers many more years--than Nissan has stated. . Read more...

51 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

I was driving down I-95 south, just north of exit 13. Cloudy, rainy evening commute about 5:50pm. I was slowing down in preparation to get off the highway at my exit and I was traveling in the second to right lane. All of a sudden I heard a bang and was hit simultaneously in the left side of the head and neck. At first I thought something had come through the window and hit me in the side of the face. It took me a few seconds to figure out what had happened - the curtain and side airbags on both the drivers side and passenger side had deployed with no warning or collision. Fortunately I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and was able to pull off the highway. I was lucky that the airbags deploying spontaneously did not cause a serious accident resulting in injuries or death. I was also lucky that my 17 month old daughter was not in the vehicle when this malfunction occurred. Upon examining the exterior of the vehicle there was no impact damage anywhere to have caused the deployment. The vehicle has been towed to the nearest dealership. We contacted Nissan USA and they have determined it is not their problem. We have comprehensive insurance and they have determined it was an electrical or mechanical malfunction and it is not their problem. The repairs have been quoted by the dealership at about $6000 (the car isn't worth that much). We have taken care of the vehicle as could be reasonably expected and it seems to me that this is outside the scope of reasonable care though none of the parties seem interested in addressing it further.

56 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

Passenger presence detection system failed to recognize a passenger and enable the passenger side air bag approximately 30% of the time. Dealer reprogrammed the controller. Same error occurred 2 months later. Dealer reprogrammed the controller and advised against placing anything over about 10 lbs in the passenger seat as this would corrupt the presence detection algorithm. But the dealer couldn't offer any assurance that the system wouldn't fail again.

57 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

Dashboard is melting and turned sticky. No longer has a matte finish and now has a high gloss finish that produces a glare through the windshield. Reflection on windshield looks like a heads up display. The area is from the drivers side to the passenger side and including the passenger side airbag area. Unknown if the airbag would deploy properly through the decomposing material used to manufacture the dashboard. Internet search of the issue shows many others have experienced this exact issue with the 2008 and early 2009 model coupe. Almost all have been reported in hot southern climates of florida, texas and California. No cleaning products were ever used on the dashboard and the decomposition appears to be a result of high temperatures inside the cabin produced when parked outside in direct sunlight.

59 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

The passenger side air bag does not engage when individuals sit in the passenger seat. The airbag sensor shows the airbag non-operational even when individuals of appropriate size and weight are sitting in the passenger seat. Nissan has no known fixes for the situation and state that its a "break in" period. This is a brand new car purchased one week ago. Serious injury could result from an non-operational airbag and I am not willing to wait for the break in period.

2013 Nissan Altima 2. 5 sl. On multiple occasions with a person in the passenger the passenger side air bag was indicated as being off. This is happening with full grown adults all of whom have been over 150 pounds. I believe this to he a faulty sensor in the cars seat cushion. Once driving for 10-15 minutes the light goes off indicating airbag is now on. This usually occurs if the car is already running and a passenger enters the vehicle.

67 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

I failed to stop at a stop sign, and was traveling about 25-30 mph when I collided with a vehicle that hit my passenger side front quarter panel. The crash happened at such a high impact that the passenger side airbag deployed, but the airbag on the driver's side did not deploy, causing me severe bruising and injury. The crash was severe enough that our insurance declared our vehicle a total loss. The airbag should have deployed in this crash, and Nissan should be held responsible for these injuries in cases like this. My husband and I purchased this car for many reasons, but the safety from air bags was a primary reason. They failed in my case, and I am concerned that others may have experienced faulty air bags as well from Nissan.

69 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/23/2010

Supplemental airbag light continue to stay lite though the system is said to be working fine. I took my car in for a service recall on the airbag system. The service writer asked the tech if the light turned off. I couldn't hear the far end of the conversation. I was told the system was fine. Drove off the lot and the light is still on. When I went back the service rep said my airbag was fine and if I wanted the issue resolved I'd have to pay for a service inspection; though just 15 minutes ago it was in for recall repairs. The service recall even stated that if the light was on the system may be impacted by the recall. Of course my warranty was up just 300 miles ago and I am really bothered by the fact they wont at least check it out since they issued a recall. I contact Nissan USA, but they have not responded to my request and the local dealer was unwilling to assist.

70 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/17/2010

I was at a complete stop, was rear ended by a Ford explorer, which therefore made me rear end the person in front of me. The driver never put on their brakes. The back glass shattered, my trunk was in my backseat, gas tank exposed. None of the airbags deployed. Guess the frontal hit wasn't hard enough to make the front airbags deploy, which therefore hit my head on the steering wheel, that caused me to have a 3cm laceration above right eye, which required closing. The rear side airbags should have deployed, but didn't!! I am concerned about this because I have a child that could have been in the back seat, I had just taken her to daycare before I was on my way to work.
